DECLARACIÓN DE MISIÓN DE OLQP La parroquia de la iglesia católica Nuestra Señora Reina de la Paz se dedica a dar testimonio de las enseñanzas de Jesucristo, especialmente el Evan-gelio de San Mateo, Capítulo 25:21-46. Nuestra misión es nutrir el espíritu y alentar el potencial de aquellos a quienes servimos a través de la cele-bración litúrgica, labores educativas y ministerios sociales. La parroquia continuará identificándose con su origen como una comunidad afro-americana, pero reflejando una congregación multi-étnica y continuará promoviendo la armonía racial y la justicia social. Si bien es cierto que nuestro enfoque principal es la vecindad comunitaria, con-tinuaremos trabajando para proveer por el bienes-tar de los más necesitados en general. Es así como nos esforzamos para hacer de nuestra comunidad parroquial una familia que comparte y se preocupa por sus miembros.

OLQP MISSION STATEMENT Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church is dedi-cated to witnessing the teachings of Jesus Christ, especially the Gospel of Saint Matthew, Chapter 25:31-46. Our mission is to nurture the spirit and to encourage the potential of those we serve through liturgical celebration, educational endeavors and social ministries. The parish will continue to identi-fy with its origin as a Black parish. As a multi-ethnic congregation we will seek to promote racial har-mony and social justice. While our primary focus is within the immediate community, we will also work to provide for the well-being of the down-trodden everywhere. In this we strive for our par-ish community to be a caring, sharing, and loving family.

your car to the front doors of the church where a Porter will be

waiting to direct you to your seat. You must remain in your assigned

seat throughout Mass. After the Final Blessing, please follow the

Porter’s instructions for leaving. Do not gather outdoors or in the

parking lot.

As per Bishop Burbidge’s instructions for the celebration of public

Masses:

All the faithful of the Diocese of Arlington are dispensed from the

obligation to attend Mass on Sundays and holy days of obligation.

Face Coverings · You MUST wear a cloth face covering or

disposable face mask. Please bring your own. Parishes

may have a l imited supply designated for those in true

need, not for general distribution.

Hand Hygiene · You are expected to disinfect your hands

when entering the church and encouraged to do so again

immediately before receiving Communion. Please bring

your own hand sanitizer, which should contain at least 60%

alcohol.

JUNE 28 IS FATHER’S DAY IN HAITI: FÊTE DES PÈRES - Haitians celebrate their fathers on the last Sun-

day in June. Many Haitian children present their fathers with homemade cards and other gifts. Lots of fathers like to spend the day with their children, playing games and other outdoor activities. Happy Father’s Day to Père Frantz, pas-tor of St. Joseph parish, and to all the dads and father fig-ures in Medor.

HAITIAN HISTORY -- Did you know that Haiti was the

first country to achieve its independence from slav-ery? Neg Mawon, a statue of a man blowing into a conch shell, is an important symbol of the Haitian revolution. It commemorates the sound that rallied the slaves to fight for their freedom. The statue is dedicated to all the unknown heroes of the Haitian Revolution. We remember these un-sung heroes of the Haitian Revolution that happened 60 years before Juneteenth. We thank them for the example they may have played in the fight to end slavery in the USA. Please pray for the people of Haiti as they try to cope with the pandemic under less than ideal circumstances.

La distribución de estas comidas va tener lugar al mismo tiempo que la despensa de alimentos. La distribución comenzará a las 9:30 am. No tiene que inscribirse por anticipado.

WORLD CENTRAL KITCHEN RETURNS TO OLQP This coming Wednesday, July 1st, World Central Kitchen, an

organization dedicated to helping families in need during

times of crisis, is going to donate over 3,000 prepared and

individually packaged meals to the parish.

The distribution will take place at the same time as the regu-

lar Food Pantry. The distribution will begin at 9:30 am.

You do not need to register in advance.

JUST A THOUGHT…Jesus asks for total loyalty from his

disciples! Allegiance to what ends? Jesus was clear that he expected his followers to “be all in”, to choose him over their mothers and fathers, over their sisters and brothers and even over their daughters and sons. This must have sounded absurd! Who could do that, they must have asked? To choose Jesus over your family was to make a choice that would mean that you would lose the ones who would care for you in old age, or in the event of illness, choosing Jesus would mean your future would immediately become much more precarious! Your family is where your personal identity came from. What was Jesus asking of his followers? It seems that Jesus was asking his disciples to put him at the center of their lives and from this center to move outward to others. He was asking them to become “his family”! These words of Jesus’ taken in the context of the fullness of his message to love God with our whole selves and our neighbor as ourselves gives us insight into what he is suggesting. If indeed we are able to place Christ at the center of our lives we will be less self-absorbed, less harsh towards others and more kind, generous and lov-ing. By consciously and reflectively living Christ centered

lives we become more and more rooted in our relationship with Christ and ultimately, our relationships with our sisters and brothers can blossom and become fuller and deeper, more authentic human encounters with our sisters and brothers. When we do this, racism and bigotry cannot ex-ist in our lives and will be rooted out of our institutions, both secular and sacred. By placing Christ at the center of my life I prioritize my life in such a way that the priorities of the Gospel become the priorities of my life, that Gospel values of justice, peace and the integrity of creation are no longer simply “nice ideals to work for” but rather “fundamental imperatives” around which I build my life, create family and live out my relationship with God and others. ON THE U.S. SUPREME COURT DECISION

PREVENTING TERMINATION OF

DACA PROGRAM I join with my brother bishops in welcoming the U.S. Su-

preme Court decision that prevents the termination of the

Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

DACA slowed hundreds of thousands of young people, in-

cluding many who live in Virginia to work, go to school or

serve in the military without fear of deportation. Termi-

nating this program would be devastating for these vulnera-

ble young people. Through our parishes and Catholic Chari-

ties Hogar Immigrant Services we will continue to stand

with these young people who are woven into the fabric of

our diocese and communities. Through the Virginia Catholic

Conference and the United States Conference of Catholic

Bishops, we will continue to urge the U.S. Senate to pass

legislation that sets a legal path forward for these young

people, called DREAMers.

FOOD PANTRY: NEW SUNDAY DROP OFF HOURS Thanks to volunteer efforts, we have established

wonderful relationships with the Columbia Pike Revitaliza-tion Organization, some local farmers markets and neigh-borhood gardens which will allow us to provide beautiful, fresh produce to our Food Pantry clients throughout the summer months! Because of this, the NEW Food Pantry drop off hours on Sundays will be 11:30am-1:30pm. Drop off hours the rest of the week are Monday-Friday 10am-1pm, Saturday 4-6pm.

SOBRE EL FALLO DE LA CORTE SUPREMA DE LOS ES-TADOS UNIDOS MEDIANTE EL CUAL SE

EVITA LA TERMINACIÓN DEL PROGRAMA DACA Me uno a mis hermanos obispos para acoger con beneplácito el fallo de la Corte Suprema de los Estados Unidos mediante el cual se evita la terminación del Programa de Acción Diferida para los Llega-dos en la Infancia (DACA). Este programa permitió que centenares de miles de jóvenes, incluso muchos residentes en Virginia, trabaja-ran, asistieran a la escuela o prestaran servicio militar sin temor de deportación. La terminación de este programa habría sido devasta-dora para estos jóvenes vulnerables. Por medio de nuestras parro-quias y del Programa Hogar de Caridades Católicas donde se pres-tan servicios a inmigrantes, continuaremos manteniéndonos firmes junto a estos jóvenes que forman parte de la estructura de nuestra Diócesis y nuestras comunidades. Por medio de la Conferencia Ca-tólica de Virginia y de la Conferencia de Obispos Católicos de los Estados Unidos seguiremos urgiendo al Senado de los Estados Uni-dos para que promulgue leyes que establezcan una vía legal para estos jóvenes conocidos como Soñadores (DREAMers).
