When he returned from his deployment in the Middle East, he surprised his wife and four young daughters when they were “randomly selected” to come on stage at the beginning of a music concert--all under a planned reunion by the musical group’s organizers and lots of Holy Spirit intervention, but that is for another story. The video of the family embracing on stage let us get a glimpse of one of those pure moments in life. The deacons have begun a new year of service at our church and welcome our new deacons, Derek Knapp, Ron Mathis, Brent Swarthout, and Paula Wesseling. The deacons have embarked on a spiritual study program that is focused on “Embracing the Mission” to help bring us closer to God’s calling for serving at Ox Hill Baptist Church. Metaphorically, we are trying to capture one of those pure moments of embracing God’s purpose for us. The challenge for us is not to just embrace this one time, but all the time. We invite you to help our deacon teams (New Member, Community Care, Family Ministry, and Fellowship) serve the various ministries and missions of our church. It does not matter if you have been coming to this church for one week, one year, or many years, there are many wonderful opportunities to embrace the mission. For example, please consider embracing our New Members team, by joining them in welcoming a new person sitting near you at church on Sunday morning. Or, consider embracing our Community Care team by sharing some food to a neighbor that is ill or helping the Family Ministry team by calling a person who has been away from the church for a while. You may also consider joining the Fellowship team by inviting someone from your Sunday School class to a church gathering at a dinner theater or choir cantata. My family recently heard a story from a cousin who is serving in the military. When he returned from his deployment in the Middle East, he surprised his wife and four young daughters when they were “randomly selected” to come on stage at the beginning of a music concert--all under a planned reunion by the musical group’s organizers and lots of Holy Spirit intervention, but that is for another story.
