Fire

Since ancient times, fire has always been one of the main symbols of different cultures. This is due to its widespread use (heating, defence, cooking).

Mythology represents fire in its double function: the aggressive one (Hephaestus or Vulcan, god of metallurgy and arms) and the protective one (Hestia or Vesta, goddess of the family and social sacred fire).

After his long and adventurous voyage, Ulysses lets his wife Penelope find out his real identity when they are close to their home hearth. Fire is thus seen as an element which conjures up a magical and loving atmosphere.
