The time tool

DiALTA Di152/Di183The multi-tasking communicationcentre for your officeHow efficiently does your business handle

its information workflow? Since one of the

key factors in our information age is know-

ledge, this is a question of crucial signifi-

cance to the success of any business. In

terms of IT infrastructure, the answer is

found in efficient document management.

Fast access to the right information wher-

ever you need it gives you a significant

advantage over your competitors.

The new multi-tasking communication

centres from Minolta, the DiALTA Di152 and

Di183, are the key to efficient document

management. Thanks to an open, modular

architecture they can be easily and effective-

ly integrated into your existing information

workflow where they then serve as commu-

nication centres, performing a key hub func-

tion in the document management process.

e-mailing – the 15 ppm Di152 and 18 ppm

Di183 will carry out the job fast and efficiently.

And if, for example, you need to print and fax

simultaneously, that will be no problem either.

The Di152 and Di183 really are multi-tasking

systems. In the crucial business of handling

the information workflow efficiently, the Di152

and Di183 from Minolta are a significant suc-

cess factor for any small workgroup.

Digital technology has opened the door

to enhanced performance and producti-

vity in today’s office environments.

DiALTA, a word derived from digital intel-

ligence and lealtà (which means loyalty

in Italian), is the brand name for

Minolta’s broad range of digital output

devices. Both aspects of this brand

name reflect Minolta’s devotion to the

principle of customer satisfaction and

desire to ensure maximum quality in

reproducing images and in managing

and transmitting data to computer-

based networks.

➔ Productivity boostedGreat performance in every aspect ofdocument management, e.g. 15 or 18 ppm in printing or copying and a 33.6 kbps fax modem.

➔ Network communicationoptimizedFast and simple data exchange viayour intranet or the Internet.

➔ Acquisition costs cutAs a one-off acquisition for printing, copying, faxing, scanning and e-mailing, better value for money than several individual machines.

➔ Running costs reducedPrinting at the significantly lower priceper page of copying.

➔ Single service partnerA single service partner and uniformconsumables for copying, printing and faxing.

➔ Space savedMuch less space required than an individual copier, printer, scanner andfax machine.

Are desktop printers really such a good

idea in workgroup environments?

You print a document on a basic desktop

device but have to head for the nearest

copier if you need numerous copies for a

meeting. And which desktop printer offers

you A3, offset sorting or watermarking?

To meet these needs, a digital copier-

printer such as the new Di152 or Di183

is a much more sensible document out-

put solution.

Power in printing

➔ Superior laser imagingLaser printing offers significant ad-vantages over the alternatives oftenused in small workgroups or homeoffices. The Di152 and Di183 bring you, for example, the benefitof high-resolution printing at 600 x600 dpi. Charts or graphics areprinted with 256 halftones, thusensuring that all the shades of anoriginal are reproduced with greataccuracy.

➔ Intelligent printingOne of the key advantages of digitalprinting is the time it saves you – a key factor in business today wheretime is in such short supply. Boththe Di152 and Di183 function onthe “transmit once, RIP once, printmany” principle. What this means in practice is that the data fromyour PC only need to be transmittedonce to the printer and processedonce in the printer before as manydocuments as you need are printedout – at 15 or 18 ppm.

➔ Efficient job separationAn optional feature of either systemensures one print or fax and onecopy job can be clearly separated. As a result, you don’t need to wastetime sorting your way throughpages and pages of output. Twoseparate output trays make sureyou find your job right away.

➔ Easy network printingBoth these multi-tasking systemscan be equipped with an ultra-fastEthernet card to serve as networkprinters in Windows environments. With every workgroup PC enjoyingaccess to an efficient and fastcommunication centre, you no long-er need a desktop printer for eachworkplace. What’s more, the printerdrivers are designed for ease ofoperation, effective control of printoutput and PCL support – fromeach individual PC in the workgroupenvironment.

➔ Simple network administrationMinolta’s PageScope software makesadministration of a networked en-vironment easier. The practical be-nefits are that printer drivers can beinstalled straight onto individualPCs, all networked devices easilymonitored and the daily print volumequickly analysed. The IT managerwill also receive e-mail notificationof any serious faults or malfunctionsand can set-up identical devicessimultaneously from his workplace.

How you benefit• No time wasted sorting through output• One printer per workgroup in Windows environments• No problems with networking

Quality in copying

Copiers small enough for workgroup

use are frequently far too slow and lack

the more sophisticated functions needed

in today’s fast-moving business world.

But now Minolta offers you the choice

of two fast and functional A3 copiers

designed for workgroup use.

➔ Time-saving image memoryOnce originals have been scannedand stored in the system memory, you can access the data to producecopies as often as you want. Youcan even rotate the scanned datathrough 90° to ensure copies areproduced the right way round –whichever paper tray you choose.

➔ Versatile offset finishingGone are the days of analogue-stylesorting trays with their quantity andcapacity limits. The advantage ofthese systems’ offset or criss-crosssorting functions is that individualcopy sets are clearly separated. This sorting solution is also ideal forcramped offices because copy setsare sorted on an internal output trayso there is no need for protrudingtrays.

➔ Accurate laser scanningInstead of the exposure technologyused in conventional analoguecopiers, digital systems scan origi-nals with a laser beam beforetransferring the scanned data elec-tronically. This means that externalfactors such as sunlight can no longer have a negative effect oncopy quality. The result is strikinglyclear reproduction of originals –even photos.

➔ Sophisticated digital copyingDigital technology not only takes theeffort out of copying, it also givesyou more scope for creative work. For example, you can use the posi-tive-negative mode to turn whiteareas into black ones, or vice versa. If originals are rather dark, the ad-vantage is that copies will be easierto read and toner consumption is cut.

Criss - cross sorting

Offset sorting

How you benefit• Better copy quality• Scan once, copy as you like• Clearly sorted output

Despite the increasing use of e-mails

in communicating with customers,

no workgroup – however small –

can afford to be without a fax ma-

chine. But as fewer documents are

faxed these days, does a stand-

alone fax machine still make busi-

ness sense? The fax facility is spe-

cifically designed to give small work-

groups or home offices intelligent

and economical faxing functions.

➔ Faxable flatbed scans3-D objects of up to A3 format, e.g.books, can be scanned in via theplaten glass and then faxed straight-away. So you don’t have to makecopies of 3-D originals first.

➔ Convenient fax gatewaySince you can fax straight from yourdesktop, you don’t need to print outdocuments first and also save your-self a walk to the fax to checkwhether your fax has actually beenreceived. The confirmation messagewill appear on the screen of your PC.

Versatility in communication

➔ Innovative i-faxingBoth machines have an optionalInternet fax function ( i-fax ) so youcan fax documents around the worldat the cost of a local call simply by using the Internet’s data lines. The advantage is that no serviceprovider is required. The only pre-condition is an i-fax machine at theother end.

➔ Convenient e-mail alternativeBoth systems enable you to savetime and money in transmitting hard-copy originals. Providing the recipienthas an e-mail address, you can sendsuch originals directly as e-mailswith no need to attach them first.Another convenient feature of bothsystems is that job-specific lists canbe merged from e-mail and fax lists.

How you benefit• Faxing from PC• Worldwide faxing at local-call rates• Hard-copy originals as e-mail attachments

Why should anyone invest in a

stand-alone scanner when the new

Di152 and Di183 from Minolta are

equipped with a high-resolution laser

scanner and 50-page automatic

document feeder?

➔ Easy automatic feedingIn contrast to conventional flatbedscanners, these two systems havean automatic feeding function. With up to 50 pages automaticallyfed in at 15 (Di152) or 18 (Di183)pages per minute, you won’t needto waste time feeding in a documentsheet after sheet.

➔ Economical scan to PC/FTPDocuments can be scanned inthrough your PC or any other net-worked PC so workgroups or evenentire departments can use thisscanning facility and store scans on their own PC or a server

➔ Efficient scan managementMinolta’s PageScope Cabinet soft-ware enables you to group multipledocuments without changing thestatus of the original file and thenconvert those grouped documentsinto PDF files by a simple drag-and-drop operation. Another usefulfeature, the visual desktop, enablesyou to find documents quickly bysimply searching through thumbnailimages of the documents.

Sophistication in scanning

How you benefit• 50-page auto - feed• Network scanning• Well organized scan files
