1.5V s i lver or a lkal ine bat ter ies, or a 3V l i th ium bat tery. Beforeinsert ing bat ter ies in the bat tery compartment, wipe them with

a c lean dry c loth.

o Open the bat tery compartment cover wi th a coin or s imi lar object .

o Place the two bat ter ies in the compartment wi th '+ 'marks

downward, and c lose the cover.

Battery checkTo conf i rm bat tery status, set the shut ter d ia l to AUTO and s l ight ly

depress the shut ter re lease but ton to act ivate the meter ing system.

l f the LCDs on the camera top and in the v iewf inder indicate

shutter speed informat ion, the bat ter ies are proper ly inserted and

Automatic power cut-offAs an energy-saving measure, a t imer switch is integrated into the'exposure

meter circuit. l t automatically shuts off powerapproximately 30 sec. af ter you take your f inger of f the shut terre lease bu t ton .

Low battery warningWhen batteries become weak, the display windows both inside andoutside the camera warn you by alternately displaying exposureinformation and a row of 000 's.

To mount or interchange Pentax K, KA and Kf mount lensesfol low the steps below. (For screw mount lenses, see p. 57).

o Remove the body mount cap and the rear lens cap. l f the f indercap is st i l l on the eyepiece, remove i t . (For the f inder cap, see p.53).o Al ign the red dot on the camera body wi th the red dot on thelens (SeeO,@.). Seat the lens in the body mount and turn i tc lockwise unt i l the lens locks wi th a c l ick. When mount ing the lensin d im l ight , methoO (O) is recommended. This method al lows lensmount ing by touch. Al ign the ra ised node on lens barrel wi ththe lens re lease by touch. Then turn and lock as above.o To remove the lens cap, press in on the notches at both sides.o To remove the lens, press the lens release lever toward the camerabody whi le turning the lens counter-c lockwise.o Af ter removing a lens f rom the camera body, replace the f rontand rear lens caps to protect the lens f rom dust and sta ins.

Note: Don' t damage or sta in theelectr ical contact points on themount face. When they becomestained, wipe them with a c lean,dry c loth.

FILM LOADING

Load the camera wi th a 35mm f i lm cart r idge. Load or unload thef i lm in the shade, avoid ing di rect sunl ight . Set the shut ter d ia lindex (red l ine) to AUTO or M. This wi l l automat ical ly set theshutter speed to 1/1000 sec. so that you can advance f i lm quicklyunt i l the counter registers "Q".

o The camera back opens when you l i f t up sharply on the f i lmrewind knob.

o Insert the f i lm cart r idge in the f i lm chamber and lock the cart r idgein p lace by returning the f i lm rewind knob to i ts or ig inal posi t ion.

l f the knob does not f i t t ight ly in to p lace, rotate the knob whi lel ight ly depressing i t .o Draw the f i lm leader across the back and insert i t between anyof the whi te needles surrounding the f i lm take-up spool . Insert thef i lm in the d i rec t i on shown in the i l l us t ra t i on .

o Sl ight ly wind the f i lm by advancing the f i lm wind lever to theposi t ion indicated in the photo, whi le making sure that both topand bot tom sprockets engage the f i lm perforat ions.

o Repeat shut ter- t r ipping/ f i lm-advancing operat ion unt i l theexposure counter reaches to "0" . The next f rame is ready forthe f i rs t shot .

U N L O A D I N G T H E F I L M

Whdn the last f rame of the f i lm has been exposed, the f i lm shouldbe rewound into the cart r idge before unloading f rom the camera.Do not force the wind lever beyond the number of f rames indicatedon the f i lm cart r idge.

To unload a cartridgeo Depress the f i lm rewind but ton.

o Turn the rewind crank in the di rect ion of the arrow to rewindt h e f i l m .

o The red str ipes in the f i lm rewind indicatorwi l l f l icker dur ingrewinding, and they wi l l cease f l icker ing when rewinding iscompleted.

r Af ter rewinding, l i f t up sharply on the f i lm rewind knob toopen the camera back and remove the f i lm cart r idge.

Note ' : Should you erroneously open the back before rewinding, donot leave it open. Close it immediately. The last few frames may beruined by di rect l ight exposure, but the major i ty of f rames on therol l may st i l l be unharmed. Whenever possib le, i t is a lso advisableto take the same pictures again wi th a new f i lm.

o L ight ly press the shut ter re lease but ton, and a programmedcombinat ion of shut ter speed and aperture value wi l l be displayedon the LcD indicator in the v iewf inder. At the same t ime, thesame shut ter speed wi l l appear in the external LCD indicator .Further pressure on the but ton wi l l re lease the shut ter . When youtake your f inger off shutter release button, the meter switchautomat ical ly turns of f af ter about 30 seconds as an energy-savingmeasure, and the displays of shut ter speed and aperture valuedisappear.
