Mock example

The Seed
• The seed is dormant until it is planted and given water.
• It has a seed coat in order to protect it from getting destroyed.
• Inside there is an embryo. This is the young plant.
• The embryo has enough energy to grow from the stored food in the seed.

The Roots• The tomato plant has tap roots and fibrous
roots. • The roots absorb water and move the water

The Stem
• Has xylem vessels to carry the water up the stem to other parts of the plant.
• Has phloem vessels to carry the food up and down the plant.

Leaves • Has xylem vessels to transport water up the
plant. • Has phloem vessels to transport food up and
down the plant. • Is the food making center through the process of photosynthesis. • Plant uses the food that it makes. • It is the only thing that can produce its own food.

Flower
• The plant needs energy in order for the flower to grow. – The energy comes from the food that the plant
