DIFFERENT TYPES OF DENTAL IMPLANTS

Are you looking for dental implants? Then read on to know about different types implants available in the market.

WHAT ARE DENTAL IMPLANTS?

Dental implants are screw like metal frames and caps that are surgically placed into the jawbone under your gums. After placing these frames your dentist will mount/ fix the replacement teeth on them.

HOW DO DENTAL IMPLANTS WORK?

Dental implants are fixed in your jawbone and function like natural teeth. There can be multiple teeth replacement which can hold a fixed bridge or they can be used to hold removable or fixed dentures.

TYPES OF DENTAL IMPLANTS

Immediate implantsConventional Implants

WHAT ARE IMMEDIATE IMPLANTS?Placement of implant into the fresh extraction socket is commonly known as immediate implant.

The implant is placed into the jaw bone and is connected to thetoothcomponent with a tiny screw.

WHAT ARE CONVENTIONAL IMPLANTS?

IMMEDIATE IMPLANTS VS CONVENTIONAL IMPLANTSImmediate ImplantsImmediate implant are placed in asingle visitonthe day of extraction.

Conventional ImplantsInvolves multiple appointments and takes the 9 to 12 months and the implant here is placed after the extraction socket heals which takes 3-4 months.

ADVANTAGES OF IMMEDIATE IMPLANTS

Cost effectiveAvoid multiple visitsMinimal surgical procedurePrevents bone loss by placing implant immediately

ONE PIECE IMPLANTModern dentistry fulfils the patient need to get a new teeth in a single day. The missing tooth can be replaced by a new tooth and patient can get the smile back with a single piece implant at the dental specialist.

ADVANTAGES OF ONE PIECE IMPLANTThey provide facility of immediate loading.Cost effectiveMore strong and rigid-as it is a single pieceThere is no bone loss as it is placed immediately onto the extraction socket.Reduced risk of infection as there is no food debris leakage ,as there is no gap between the implant and abutment like in two piece implant. The procedure is fast, and simple .It is the flapless technique so there is less bleeding and the patients who are on blood thinners need not stop them.

Implants Based On Design

Endosteal implantsThese are implants placed into the jaw bone. After the surrounding gum tissue heals, a second surgery is performed to connect a post to the originalimplant.Subperiosteal implantsThese are placed inside the gums but they overlie the jaw bone. The lightweight, individually designed, metal framework fits over the remaining bone, providing the equivalent of multiple tooth roots.

Implants Based On LoadingSingle stage implantsTwo stage implantsFlapless implantsBasal implantsPterygoid implants

What Are Single stage implants?

Single stage implants are placed in asingle visit with the abutment and crown over it. Following a 3 to 6 month healing period in which the implant fuses to the bone, a crown is then placed on the implant restoring the immediate appearance of a healthy, normal tooth. One-stage implant systems are generally used when the bone quality is good, guaranteeing good initial implant stability.

What Are Two Stage Implants?

Atwo-stage procedureis typically used for replacing teeth where there is no immediate need for a cosmetic solution and when more of a margin of safety is required. With this approach, the implant(s) are placed into the jawbone and the gum tissues cover them. They are not exposed to the mouth, but stay buried and left to heal. Once healed, a second surgery is performed to attach an abutment for securing the crown in place. This approach is used when there is poorer bone quality or quantity. This may make it necessary to regenerate bone around the implant at the time of its placement.

What Are Flapless Implants?Flapless implant is the special technique used in implant dentistry. In this procedure the implant is placed without reflecting the gum.AdvantagesReduced post operative tissue loss around implantReduced traumaReduced bleedingFast recovery

What Are Basal Implants

These are implants that are placed on basal bone areas. This includes the advantage that the basal bone does not undergo atrophy and this procedure requires the minimum bone height.Basal Implantation is a new and revolutionary methodin dentistry, where there is no need for bone augmentation even in the worst cases. They are made of biocompatible titanium alloy. Basal implants are one single unit / Implant and Abutment are monolithically connected.

What Are Pterygoid implants

These are placed in the 2nd molar region in upper jaw. The forces are received by pterygomaxillary buttress, so it allows immediate loading over here.
