General Adult Psychiatry
How common is Schizophrenia? How common is this picture? Which professionals might this
individual need to support, treat, assess him/her in the community?
How can we coordinate this?
As an IP-Educator
‘occasions when 2 or more professionals learn from and about each other to improve collaboration and the quality of care.’ (Barr 2002).
Fits with ethos of mental health work
As an IP-Educator
1. Students meet with patients in their own homes
2. Students meet with the professionals involved in the patients care
3. Analysis of care given and solutions generated
4. Feedback to students/professional group
IPE Challenge for all services
Future of health and social care will be Interprofessional vs uniprofessional Community based vs hospital/care
settings The best care for individuals in the best
place for the individual, by the most appropriate professionals
And training needs to match these values - so we need more not less IPE
