(Rev 14:1) And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on
the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father's name written in
their foreheads.
NOTES
When we study Mt. Sion or Mt. Zion , we must remember that here on earth is a Mt. Zion that is a model of the Heavenly Mt. Zion.
This should not be a big stretch to believe seeing that we also call these Mountains by the same name (Jerusalem)
(Heb 12:18-22) For ye are not come unto the mount that might be
touched, and that burned with fire, nor unto blackness, and darkness, and
tempest, And the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which voice they that heard intreated that the word should
not be spoken to them any more: (For they could not endure that which was
commanded, And if so much as a beast touch the mountain, it shall be stoned, or thrust through with a dart: And so terrible
was the sight, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake:) But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable
company of angels,
(Psa 48:2) Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city
of the great King.
(Isa 14:13) For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my
throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the
sides of the north:
NOTES
When John is seeing these 144,000 in chapter 14, they have finished their course and are gathered around the throne.
THE
144,000
FINISHEDII. The praise of the
144,000
(Rev 14:2-3) And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder:
and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps: And they
sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could
learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were
redeemed from the earth.
NOTES
This is describing a scene of worship around the throne of God.
A. It will be praise of many
(Rev 14:2-3) And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many
waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of
harpers harping with their harps: And they sung as it were a new song
before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man
could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which
were redeemed from the earth.
(Num 24:7) He shall pour the water out of his buckets, and his seed shall be in many waters, and his king shall be
higher than Agag, and his kingdom shall be exalted.
(Rev 17:1) And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials,
and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that
sitteth upon many waters:
(Rev 19:6) And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the
voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for
the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.
Rev.7:9-15
(Rev 14:2-3) And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder:
and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps: And they sung as it were a new song before the
throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could
learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were
redeemed from the earth.
(Rev 5:8) And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden
vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.
(Rev 5:9) And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book,
and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God
by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;
(Rev 5:10) And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign
on the earth.
Chapter 8:1-5
(Rev 14:2-3) And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder:
and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps: And they
sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no
man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four
thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.
THE
144,000
FINISHEDIII. The people of the
144,000
(Rev 14:3-5) And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no
man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the
earth. These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were
redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb. And
in their mouth was found no guile: for they are without fault before the throne
of God.
NOTES
There are many that want to apply these people to the angels. But John is very clear that these have been redeemed of men
(1Pe 1:12) Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto
themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire
to look into.
(Rev 14:4) These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins.
These are they which follow the Lamb
whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from
among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to
the Lamb.
