COMPATRIOTS ATTEND OHIO COUNTY GRAVE MARKINGSThree compatriots from the Col. Stephen Trigg

Chapter attended a multiple grave marking ceremony in rural Ohio County, Kentucky, this afternoon.  Participants marked the graves of John Bennett, Chesley Calloway, and Joshua Chapman.  Bennett’s grave was in the actual cemetery where the ceremony was held.  Calloway and Chapman are buried in family plots on nearby farms.

Representatives of the Col. Stephen Trigg Chapter were chapter President Geoff Baggett, chapter Vice-President Steve Mallory, and Compatriot Jerry Burlingame.  All three served in the color guard.  Steve fired his Pennsylvania rifle in the rifle salute.  Geoff and Jerry presented the chapter flag during the floral salute. Each earned credit for three marked graves toward the 15 required for the Patriot Grave Marking Medal.

COL. STEPHEN TRIGG AND WKDZ RADIO!

Chapter President Geoff Baggett made a recent on-air appearance at the WKDZ Radio studios in Cadiz. He spent a few minutes with on-air personality Kim Allen promoting the chapters upcoming Independence Day event. While there, he presented the station and it’s parent company, Ham Radio Broadcasting, with a heartfelt “Certificate of Appreciation.” The radio network has gone above and beyond in helping the chapter promote patriotism and history throughout the entire region.

While visiting the station he presented two other certificates. One was to Kyle Rader (left) a Sales and Marketing Assistant who works hard to get our chapter “air time.” The other was to Robin Stevens (right), a News Producer who prepares great stories and “spots” for the radio, as well as Facebook stories and pictures and links on the station’s web site.

CURRENT FUNDRAISING EFFORTS

Your gifts to our chapter treasury are 100% tax deductible. The SAR is a recognized 503c charitable organization. Consider including our chapter in your “Regular Giving” or donating to the above-mentioned special causes.

We believe that we have recruited a DRUMMER for future ceremonies and events. This gentleman in Cadiz is an accomplished percussionist and is qualified for membership in the SAR through several different Patriot ancestors.

Now we need to raise the funds to purchase a Grenadier Drum for our chapter! We have located one through Spencer’s Mercantile that is period authentic and the most affordable one we ca find. The total cost for drum and strap is $400.

Please give, designating your gift to the “Drum Fund.”

DRUM FUND SCHOLARSHIP FUNDIn November we will be selecting winners

for our Eagle Scout award (we have at least one applicant already) and the High School Essay Contest. Our chapter winners will be forwarded on for competition at the State level.

However ... it is most appropriate that we provide suitable scholarship awards for the winners of these two high school Americanism events. We will notify the students of these awards in November/December.

Please considering giving a financial donation toward these scholarship awards. All donations to the “Scholarship Fund” will be applied to these two awards.

If you have students currently in high school this year, you should encourage them to participate in the Essay Contest.

Proceeds from the Hunting Knife raffle at the Ham Festival will be applied to these funds.

RECRUIT A RELATIVE!Compatriots! All male relatives in your bloodline are

eligible for SAR membership! This includes your sons, grandsons, brothers, nephews ... even your uncles! If they share your patriot blood, they are eligible!

The most responsive recruits will be the young boys. They have an interest in history, uniforms, and many of the things that we are doing. Capture their attention early! Invite them to join. Pay their fees! The fees for Junior Members are minimal on a Patriot line that is already proven. Recruit a relative in June!
