n.  One of the small ropes, fastened horizontally to ropes supporting a ship's mast, which together form a ladder. A large seabird perched on one of the ratlines of the ship.

n.  The system of ropes, chains, and other gear used to control a ship's sails. A good sailor had to be able to climb the rigging like a rat.
