The Arts at Northern

Ohio Northern was named as one of the country’s top 200 creative programs in Creative Colleges: A Guide for Student Actors, Artists, Dancers, Musicians and Writers.

The performing arts include theatre, musical theatre, music, international theatre production and dance (minor).

The Freed Center for the Performing Arts

• More than 100 annual events and performances, including headliners, theatre, dance and music events.

• Each season brings 30-40 professional guest artists to campus

• A unique International Play Festival, international tours, a professional series, a children series, an educational series and outreach activities

The Art and Design program

Four major programs, including advertising design, art education, graphic design and studio arts, are offered in a professional and liberal arts environment that contributes to student exposure to form, theory and practices.

• Required of all majors, a year-long investigative research project synthesizes a student’s liberal arts and professional education and culminates in a public presentation demonstrating knowledge of concepts, theories, issues, form, methods and materials.

• An in-house design studio and course offers real-world exposure to business and professional experiences.

The University exhibition venues include two galleries on campus. The Elzay Gallery of Art and the Stambaugh Studio Theatre Gallery showcase the work of invited artists and designers as well as the work of students, faculty and alumni.
