A Letter from the LTGHello Ninja Turtles!

The summer’s passed by in a flash. We’ve served. We’ve cheered. We’ve fundraised. It doesn’t matter if you hit the water with us at Beach Cleanup, played games at Region Picnic, endured stinky tofu and crowds at 626 Night Market, or been educated at a DCM, we’ve had a great time over the last few months. Hopefully you’ve all enjoyed your respite from school and are ready for everything that comes ahead. Get used to the late nights, early mornings,

homework, but continue to volunteer. Test the waves, don’t be afraid to try new things, meet new people, or challenge yourself, whether it’s at school, at home, or wherever you find yourself. There are a million waves of service and opportunity ahead of you.

Love, Jeffrey

PINK HAIR’: A closeup of LTG Jeffrey Xiong’s face shows that his hair is dyed pink. No worries, it’s washable dye!

Hi!

Can you believe that September is practically here? New school year = new chances to recruit more members, so get on it! A whole bunch of things are to be planned for the upcoming school year!

Which school will recruit the most members?

Whatever your grade is, enjoy another Key Club year!

Love, Christine

Beach CleanupIt was a fine and dandy Saturday

to go to the beach. Fortunately, we Key Clubbers, knew how to cause havoc during the annual Region 13 Beach Cleanup. Once we arrived at Santa Monica Beach, some brave souls immediately stripped despite the cold (scandy!), and ran to the waves, shivering their booties off. Many of us stayed near the water, only to take advantage of the picturesque view. I myself have never been to the beach in a year, so I did what I did, you know what I mean? That means pick-up lines, y’all, and lots of them (I compiled a beautiful list, and used “You’re hotter than donut grease” on some poor soul). It didn’t work.

To my disappointment, not many icebreakers were started, but I did manage to meet and bond with people of our lovely division. Not to mention, our participation in the spirit battle was so admirable, I had tears in my eyes when I found out we didn’t win—not. There’s always a next time, though, and that time we’re definitely going to kick butt with new cheers and dances

(with hopefully with more air thrusts involved).

We cleaned up for about an hour, turning it into some kind of contest; as Key Clubbers roamed around picking up cigarette butts, and other trash, we even found dead jellyfish. More and more crazy things happened afterward, as it got hotter and more and more people went into the ocean. We ate lunch on the Santa Monica Pier and all I remember from there was that the restroom lines were too long.

Some interesting creatures also showed face as we all waited for the bus to pick us up. A Storm Trooper, Master Chief, and Batman were posing with us so fabulously; except for Batman, who was a poo head.

All in all, the beach cleanup was a very interesting day filled with amazing Key Clubbers. I suggest that if you didn’t go this year, you should definitely go next year!

fact of the monthFemale students were first admitted into Key Club in 1976, eleven years before women were admitted to Kiwanis International, our sponsoring organization.

Michael’s Thoughts Children’s Art FestivalFour years ago, I was standing in the middle of my school,

confused at the enormous amount of clubs there were. The general atmosphere during “club day” was exciting. All these clubs; all made for a different causes. Four years later, I am preparing to introduce Key Club as a club that makes a difference in the world. Key Club, a student organization that builds character, helps the community, and develops social skills; what more could I ask for? Now, like the same people who introduced me to this spectacular club that has changed my life, I am ready to pass on the information to the group of new students, who are about to see the next four years of their lives zoom by. In these quick four years, however, there are numerous opportunities that emerge from Key Club to make life changing experiences. Key Club does not only provide service to the community, but helps incorporate real world communities into the lives of high schoolers.

I had a lot of fun at Children’s Art Festival at paramount studios on Sunday August 12. We gave out glitter tattoos, pumped up balloons, and handed them out to all the kids. We met many Division 3 South Key Clubbers. First we met with the volunteer coordinator, and he introduced us to some of the other Division 3 wolves. He then assigned us the duties of filling up the balloons, and then tying the balloons to chairs so they can be handed out later at today. When we ran out of balloons, we sat and talked about why we joined Key Club and how we liked our LTG’s. When the kids started to come, we started handing out the balloons, and then we helped out with a glitter tattoo booth. We learned how to give out glitter tattoos, and then gave each other a tattoo. It was a lot of fun, and I am glad that I went.
