The Benefits of an Adjustable Bed

The benefits of an adjustable bed are numerous. One of the primary benefits of an adjustable

bed is that it allows for ergonomically correct positioning, which in turn, allows for natural

curvature of the spine during sleep. By promoting a healthy posture during sleep, many of

the discomforts and problems that inhibit deep, restful sleep can be avoided.

Another advantage of an adjustable bed is the ability to evenly distribute pressure over the

entire sleep surface. This reduces strain on the heart by helping it to take nourishing oxygen

to your body through the bloodstream. An adjustable bed will allow you to adjust the sleeping

surface to the angles that reduce strain on the heart and promote proper circulation. As an

individual you have specific needs that can only be met with a custom, adjustable bed.

Because your body is not allowed to maintain proper posture when sleeping on a flat surface,

tension on the muscles and joints is often increased. This greatly reduces the rest and

recuperation that your muscles should experience during a full night of sleep. An adjustable

bed allows you to provide proper, customised support to different areas of your body

including: Neck and head, lower back, legs and knees, and your feet and ankles.

In summary, adjustable beds have an advantage over traditional, flat mattresses because

they provide: healthy posture - pressure relief - proper circulation - customised support. Other

advantages include electric adjustment of bed angles, and even height with Hi-Low systems.

This can be greatly beneficial to individuals and their carers because it allows for easier

transfers and total access for patient lifts.

Our range of high quality profiling beds are suitable for a whole variety of requirements including use in both

care homes and home care situations, to help both individuals with specific needs and to aid their carers.

Dependent on the mobility of the user, our High / Low mechanism allows the whole bed frame to raise and

lower, enabling the user to select the most suitable height for themselves for getting in or out of the bed

unaided, or simply to reach the hoist to turn themselves to alleviate pressure points. Also, the five section

variable adjustments provide a more comfortable and stable position in bed with sections that form not only

a head/backrest, but a leg-raise, creating a knee break to prevent the user from sliding down the bed.

The use of the High / Low mechanism also helps eliminate the risk of injury to the carer that can be caused

by lifting while bending.

There are a number of advantages to this mechanism:

All MiBed® adjustable beds come complete with an Emergency Lowering Motor fitted as

standard. Should you have the misfortune to suffer from a power-outage whilst the bed

is in use, it can be lowered using the built-in motor.

However, it is important to stress that this is an emergency back-up for lowering the

motor only, and should not be seen as an alternative source of power.

Heavy Duty - For users who weigh between 18-25 stone.

The frame on the single sized heavy duty is made from metal, rather than wood, giving

extra strength - for 4’ and 4’6”, we supply two actions and two motors.

Available in 2’6”, 3’, 4’ and 4’6” only.

KD (Knock Down) beds - For houses with limited access.

2’6” and 3’ beds can be cut in half (we call it KD) so they can be installed

upstairs without difficulty. One bed will arrive in three parts - the mattress

and two half bases - the actions will be cut in half as well and be bolted

inside the base halves.

4’ and 4’6” beds always have east/west bases. We only cut the action in half.

The bases will only be two bases that link together and does not come KD

(we have never had a failed delivery on a 4’6” bed due to the base).

5’ and 6’ beds that have north/south bases (two single beds linked together)

are available in KD (as per 2’6” and 3’ models). We cannot KD bed bases

that are east/west splits (4’, 4’6”, 5’ and 6’).

King or Super-King mattress

You can either have two single mattresses to make the bed size of your choice or we

can offer a one-piece King or Super-King mattress.

Chili Pad

The Chili Pad is a revolutionary cooling and heating system that

regulates the surface temperature of your mattress for a perfect

nights’ sleep. The control unit allows adjustments to be made

between 55ºF (13ºC) and 110ºF (43ºC) on the mattress surface,

so however warm or cold it is outside, your bed will be at your ideal temperature.

Massage unit in the mattress

Available in memory and reflex foam models, our innovative and ergonomic vibration

massage system is built within the mattress to give you the ultimate massage experience.
