The Union formed in 1861 when the

confederate states seceeded.

All of the dark blue states represent the Union states. 

Page 4: The Unio

The Union formed because the South (Confederacy) wanted to seperate from the North (Union)....

Page 5: The Unio

And establish their own country.

Page 6: The Unio

The southern states wanted to seperate from the North so they could keep slavery.

Page 7: The Unio

One of the first Major battles for the Union army was at Bull Run.

Page 8: The Unio

The first national Union flag had twelve stars and three stripes.

Page 9: The Unio

The Union had an impact on the....

Page 10: The Unio

The southern states, (since the Union defeated them in the civil war.)

Page 11: The Unio

The US, (for not letting the Southern states form their own country and keeping the US whole.)

And the slaves. (For freeing, fighting and not forgetting the slaves.)

The Union wore blue uniforms.

The weapon most used by the Union soldiers was the black powdered musket.

The president for the Union army was Abraham Lincoln.

The first general for the Union arrmy was Winfield Scott.

Lincoln changed generals many times until he found U.S.Grant to lead the Union to victory.

In the civil war roughly 10% of the Union army were blacks.

Some of the black soldeirs were former slaves who had been freed by the emancipation proclamation.

The Union soldiers ate Hard tack (basically a dried cracker that never goes bad),

The civil war ended in 1865 when General Lee surrendered to General Grant at the Appomattox Court House.
