The purpose of this event is tocommemorate the 100th anniversary ofthe ratification of the 19th Amendment.On this day we wil l delve into the historyof the women’s suffrage movement: whowas included, who was intentionallyexcluded, and how those inclusions andexclusions shaped the policies of thesuffrage movement. We hope to educate the public byexpanding an understanding andappreciation for the contributionsAfrican-American women and of women ofcolor have made to women’s history andculture both locally and nationwide.

Carol Faulkner is Professor of Historyand Associate Dean for AcademicAffairs at the Maxwell School ofCitizenship and Public Affairs atSyracuse University. She received her B.A. from YaleUniversity, and her Ph.D. from SUNYBinghamton. She specializes in thehistory of women, gender, sexuality, andsocial movements in the United States.
