In2012,theSt.ClaudeMainStreetassociationwasawardeda$250,000grantbytheorganizationArtPlaceinordertoaidtheongoingattemptstorevitalizetheSt.ClaudeCor-ridorastheArtDistrictofNewOrleans. St.ClaudeMainStreethaschosentoinvestthismoneyinwaysthatwillnotbeimmedi-atelyvisible,butthatwillhavepositivelongtermeffectsontheregion:byinvestinginmanyexistinggalleries,artprograms,andothercommunity–basedprograms,aswellashostingseveralworkshopsandconferencesonhowtosuccessfullypromoteartistryandoperateartrelatedbusinesses,St.ClaudeMainStreethopestogainsupportforexistingprogramsandtoempowerentrepreneursintheareatoopenmoregalleries. Whiletheseinvestmentsshouldhaveaphysicalmanifestationinthelongrun,therearecurrentlymanyvacantlotsandderelictbuildingsalongthecorridorthatwillremainassuchuntil thesebenefitstakehold.However, these lotsandbuildingscouldbeutilizedfor theimplementationofvariousinterventionsthatprovideamenitiesforthecommunityandacti-vatethecurrentgapsalongthestreetscapeofthecorridor.Indoingso,theseinstallationscouldraisemoreexcitement,awareness,andsupportintheareaaboutthecurrentartisanmovement,whilesimultaneouslyenhancingtheexistingcharacterofthestreet. Therearethreedifferenttypesofvacantlandalongthecorridor:infill,void,andsurface.Onblockswherebothinfillandvoidoccur,aninterventionusingbothcanbeputinplacetoenliventheentireblock,andthesurfacesbetweentheseinterventionscanbeusedasadvertising,informingpedestriansofwheretheyarealongthecorridorandwhatactivitiestheycanexpecttoruninto.
