MYSPACE The use of this social networking site during the pre- production stage allowed us to successfully find our artist, Russell Michael, and song which featured in the music video. Being able to use this form of “new” technology has helped us in creating a target audience for our artist, this is because Myspace is a form of media 2.0 and therefore are able to see fan members of Russell Michael and consequently were able to find a realistic and accurate target audience from the information on our artists music profile. Furthermore, I was able to search other artist from the same genre and determine a brand image.

MYSPACE The use of this social networking site during the pre-production

stage allowed us to successfully find our artist, Russell Michael, and song which featured in the music video.

YOUTUBEDuring the pre-production research and planning stage I used Youtube, a form of media 2.0, to find music videos of artists such as “The Script” which have a similar target audience and brand image to Russell Michael. This was a useful way of finding out forms and conventions of other real life media products with the same romantic genre and therefore because we were planning on creating a music video with a high level of redundancy for our target audience we had to use these forms and conventions in order the product to be understandable.

GOOGLEThrough using this website, specifically Google Images, I was able to

look at and identify CD covers and magazine adverts of artists with

a similar target audience and genre to our artist, Russell Michael.

This allowed me to recognise certain forms and conventions that

many similar artists include on their CD cover which therefore I

would include on my Digipack cover to create the same authenticity

and genuine feel to the media texts which other similar artists have

created.

PANOSONIC MINI DVDuring the production stage of the music video, technology such as the Panasonic Mini DV camera was used in order to capture the footage which would later be edited. This type of technology was extremely beneficial as it allows the producer to easily capture footage because it is more simpler to use then some other cameras. Furthermore, as our music video was located on Western Super-Mare beach, the lightweight material of the camera was an advantage as it allowed mobility from different settings on the beach.

DSLR CAMERASWhen creating the ancillary tasks, a DSLR camera was used in order to take photographs used on the Digipack cover and the magazine advert. This technology was helpful because the camera includes different effects and settings which allowed me to take the best possible photographs. For example, when using the DSLR camera to take photographs for the Digipack cover I often used the Aperture setting to create a more effective shallow depth of field compared to using the automatic setting because I wanted to create a natural atmosphere and therefore did not use lighting and so wanted to use the setting which allows for the most light to be captured as possible. However this could be considered as technological determinism because I would never have considered using this effect if I had not been shown how effective and easy it is to use because I don't have as much experience in using a DSLR camera compared to a Panasonic DV camera.

ADOBE PHOTOSHOP The use of Adobe Photoshop technology during the post-production stage was used in order create the Digipack cover and magazine advert. I was able to edit and add different effects to the photographs in order to make them appeal to the target audience more and look more effective and interesting. This technology was helpful in the overall creativity of my ancillary texts because it allowed me to use a black and white, grainy effect on the background however using a layer keep the artist and a few swans in colour which gains some originality however keeps in with the house style of an elegant, black and white effect of the media product and ancillary tasks.

ADOBE PREMIERE PROAfter capturing our footage, we then used the technology Premiere Pro to edit shots and rearrange the shots to create a music video with plenty of fast cuts to add interest. Premiere Pro was useful in creating a media text which looked professional which wasn't to difficult to achieve. Furthermore, this technology did not limit the amount of creativity we wanted because it was easy to use and therefore we were able to change the amount of noise to make the music video look more grainy and authentic rather then looking harsh and sharp. Also, we were able to use cross dissolves which we planned to use from the start and therefore technological determinism would have occurred if we didn't know how to use Premiere Pro.

BLOGGERThroughout the production of my media product and ancillary tasks I used Blogger. This technology allowed me to record my ideas, research and planning, photographs, decisions and reasons for my choices online. It was helpful because this interpersonal communication allowed me to always be able to come back to my work when needed too, for example, if I was stuck for ideas I was able to come back to my research and planning where I had mentioned what I should use or do which I had merely just forgotten.
