My use of technology
Macromedia FireworksMacromedia FireworksFor the editing of pictures and constructions of pages in my magazine, I used Macromedia Fireworks.
This programme is mainly for graphic editing and worked well for creating a magazine.
There are many tools I used to edit and create shapes and fonts in the programme.
This is the main toolbar in the Fireworks programme. I
used these tools the most in the editing process.
This is the main toolbar in the Fireworks programme. I used these tools the most in the editing process.
The shots of my cover and double page spread model had a background in the original image, but using the polygon lasso tool, I cut around him to remove the background.
The shapes tool also created my circular ‘stickers’ on the front of my magazine. A drop shadow tool was also used. The screenshots on the
right are an example of adding a drop shadow.
Use of effectsUse of effectsFireworks also has many effects which can be added to shapes and text.
The tool I used greatly was the Inner Bevel tool. This was used on the masthead of the magazine and many of the circular ‘stickers’ too.
By using a bevel tool, it creates and effect that the magazine is not ‘flat’ and that it stand out from the page.
The adjustment of tools is a simple process. To max/minimise the amount of bevel used there is a bar to drag which adds and decreases the effect.
Installation of fontsInstallation of fontsDue to limitations on the school network there is no explicit way to install fonts so I had to
find a system around it, which I did.
It is a rather lengthy process . . .
Firstly I downloaded the selected font from www.dafont.com Click download, then open. When
downloaded I extracted the ZIP folder and saved it to my memory stick.I then accessed My Computer and clicked Help, then Help and Support Centre. By running a
search for “Installing fonts” and clicking “Add a new font to your Computer” it allowed me to access the computer’s ‘Fonts’ folder. I then needed to add the font by clicking ‘Install New Font’. I then found where I saved my font and then selected the font name at the top. The font was then available in my Fireworks programme. I had to go through this process on every new computer I used.
