Presidents Message By Gale Haugen It’s that time again! Time to renew your NCCC member-
ship. New members fee are: $35 plus $10 per family
member. Members renewal fee is $25.00 plus $10 per
family member. Please submit your fees to Treasurer,
Hector Paz by October 31st. Checks should be made out
to Vapor Trail Vettes.
Just another reminder that we will be taking nominations
for 2016 E-Board Members at the October meeting.
This month I had two couples in our club submit pictures
and one article for the newsletter. I would like to thank
John, Debbie, Bev and Cliff for sharing the things that
interest them with the rest of us.
It is hard to believe that we are approaching the end of
2015. Our Annual Corvette Blast and last autocross of
the year will be behind us in a short period of time. Spe-
cial thanks to members that have put so much time into
working the Annual Event so far. Jim & Mary Carson who
established the rallye route and gimmick questions. This
is not an easy task to accomplish. Joan and Patty for
planning all the food and drinks for hospitality night. I
am sure everything will be perfect and look great. Brian
and Roberta, thank you for being the other party to drive
the rallye route and take pictures of the gimmick an-
swers. They were also very involved in the raffle prize
collection and setup. Barry & Judy...what can I say. I do
not have enough room in this column to list all you have
done and continue to do. The amazing game Barry built,
goodie bags, registration packages, everything that went
into those packages, raffle baskets, collection center for
everything. Their house looks like a warehouse right
now. The list goes on and on. To all of our members
who collected items for the raffle and will be helping over
the weekend. You are all amazing and appreciated. This
event would not be a success without all of you.
Until next month, Save the Wave!

and Bev Erickson; Bill Santmyer; Doug Nicoll; John
and Debra Mahoney; Larry Wright; Barry and Judy
Fitzjarrell; Brian Weber and Roberta Haylock; Gerry
White; Chuck Robertson; Clay Beck; Mary Carson;
Michele Watson; and Mark Miller. We also had two
guests – Gil Trujillo (owns a 2015 Gray Z06) and
Mike Roland.
Minutes—Bill Santmyer made the motion to ap-
prove the August 2015; Chuck Robertson seconded
the motion. The minutes from the August 6th meeting
were approved by all present.
New Business—Gale Haugen
Gale wished a happy birthday to the September VTV
members: Debra Mahoney (9-03); Verna Nicoll (9-
04); Alyson Dunlap (9-05); Joan Perry (9-08) and
Judy Fitzjarrell (9-18).
Gale congratulated Bill Santmyer for winning the Best
of Show and Jim Carson for winning Best in Class at
the Lompoc Car Show in August. She also thanked
Judy for organizing and taking inventory of the Blast
supplies and getting the information to the proper
members.
The registration is now open for the October 10th Au-
tocross.
Very Important – Gale reminded all members that
the VTV Board Members nominations will be done at
the October meeting. If you would like to nominate
someone for any of the positions, please check with
that person to make sure they are willing. This will
save time for Larry Wright for the election in Novem-
ber.
Old Business—Gale Haugen
Gale reviewed the Blast schedule status with mem-
bers. Since Charlie Perry was not at the meeting,
Gale will check with Charlie that we have obtained
the insurance certificate of the Blast. Judy reported
that she mailed event flyers to 20 Non-NCCC Cor-
vette clubs including Fresno and Monterey. Doug
Nicoll has talked with Home Motors and has sched-
uled picking up the Home Motors banner on Thurs-
day, September 24th. He will talk to them about be-
ing #4 of the Poker Rallye stops.
Judy passed around samples of the Blast welcome
letter, agenda, badges, dinner tickets and silent auc-
tion/raffle description sheets. Members reviewed the
samples and gave suggestions, correction and etc. so
she can start getting the registration and goodie bags
started. Gale said that the City of Santa Maria Com-
merce handouts will be available soon for pickup.
John Mahoney suggested that we add a value amount
to the silent auction and raffle sheets.
September Meeting Minutes By Judy Fitzjarrell Old Business—Gale Haugen
Mary Carson reported that they have established the
Poker Rallye route and gimmick questions for the route.
However, they need someone to drive the Rallye, take
the pictures and time the event.
Gale discussed the raffle prizes and will work with Rob-
erta on how we determine silent auction or raffle ticket
prizes. Donations are needed from all members and
members should notify Roberta with the information.
Barry discussed the games they have chosen. Dave and
Jan will do a dart game and Barry and Judy will do a
blinko game where one of the chips will be for double
points. Judy will work on the game rules and score
sheets for each of the games. Gale reminded members
that we need to track the top ten in each sanctioned
event for reporting purposes but everyone gets points for
attending. First and second place winners will be given
awards.
Gale and Clay have ordered the awards and they are due
in soon. The awards this year will be a 3” by 3” square
that is kind of like a paperweight.

curred in August with members. We have received
$1,080.00 from the Annual Blast registrations. We also

Tech Corner-Castrol GTX MAGNATEC By Clay Beck Many people are alarmed to learn that up to 75% of en-
gine wear occurs during warm-up. Most of an engine's
moving parts depend on an unbroken oil film for both low
friction operation and minimal wear. When an engine is
shut off, the oil drains from the engine's critical parts
such as bearings, camshafts, rocker arms and cylinder
walls; and cools. After startup, it can take up to 20
minutes to reach peak protection temperature. During
that time, traditional anti-wear additives such as zinc
dithiophosphate are not completely activated. When
starting without fully activated anti-wear additives and
residual oil film, your engine initially runs with less than
ideal lubrication, which can cause overall levels of wear
and impact engine performance over time. Poor lubrica-
tion during startup and initial engine operation causes
more wear than running your engine hard! So a weekend
full of short trips running errands is harder on your en-
gine than hauling a heavy load. So companies like
Castrol are doing something about this problem. In addi-
tion to recommending regular service, they develop new
technology to address vehicle issues like this one. In
fact, Castrol just introduced Castrol® GTX® MAG-
NATEC® motor oil that is specifically formulated to re-
duce wear generated during warm-up. Castrol GTX MAG-
NATEC has intelligent molecules formulated to cling to
engine parts like a magnet,
leaving a layer of protec-
tion even after your engine
is shut off and don't take
time to warm-up. So the
unique clinging properties
of the Castrol GTX MAG-
NATEC formula protect and
fight engine wear providing
instant protection from the
moment you start.

NCCC Meeting Notes By Cliff Harris Friday, September 11th. Membership committee meeting. President Dave Heinemann said if we had 30,000 members we could reduce the dues to $15. The membership database is in renewal mode be-cause Steve accidentally clicked the wrong button. The only way to undo this is to restore the database to an earlier backup. We can’t do that because all the intervening transactions would be lost. The solution for now is to just add new members and they will merge in with the rest of your renewing members. Since the database is in renewal mode the new mem-bers won’t get their first NCCC membership cards or new member information until they are sent out with the rest of the members’ renewals. We can work around this by adding new members “by hand”. What this means is that you list the information for new members and send it to me with the appropriate dues check. Then Steve will change their status in the da-tabase and have Larry Higgins send out a new mem-ber package. We can’t do this the usual way because the database won’t let us submit a transaction until ALL the members are shown as having paid their dues (are highlighted in tan rather than yellow on the club renewal screen). Ron Scott reported from the Finance Committee that we lost about $4400 on the raffle car. Several people have suggested that maybe it is time to stop using this method for raising money because of multiple problems over the years. Webmistress Joan Thomas has created a new gover-nor email list after the mess that the previous system turned out to be. I said at the time that people won’t go to an email server to check their email and it turned out I was right. She is relying on the email address being correct in the membership database and she has used that to create her own list. It seems to me that she could extract this info from the database any time she needs to send out anything, but I guess that’s too complex. I will check every-body’s email against her list to make sure everything is OK. Saturday, September 12th. National governors meet-ing VP of Membership Steve Johnson reported that a committee is rewriting my “Governors Quick Guide to the Membership Database”. They plan to add screen shots and go into some of the areas I didn’t think were important and left out. Steve calls my document “Cliff’s Notes” and it has been used by many RMDs and governors. I just got tired of typing out instruc-tions multiple times for the same things over and over again. The newsletter contest results were announced. The results can be found on the NCCC web site under “Contests”. Business Manager Jack Wilson said he has updated the insurance FAQs on the NCCC web site.
NCCC Meeting Notes By Cliff Harris One change is that no drones or other radio-controlled vehicles are allowed at NCCC events. He said that if club timing equipment is left in a storage facility that its loss is not covered by NCCC’s insurance. He also said that the insurance will not cover any problems related to pictures taken at an event and then published on a social web site like Facebook or a similar site. He said take lots of pictures but keep them to yourself. Jack said that you should request a COI (Certificates of Insurance) at least 2 weeks prior to an event. This has become a growing problem because requests have been made only a few days before an event and they don’t have enough time to evaluate the risks before issuing a COI. He said in the future (mainly next year). They will refuse to issue a COI if the request is made too close to the event date. Jack said the 2015 Convention will break even or show a slight profit. I liked it. The turnout was good and the events were well run. The 2016 Convention is well along in the planning pro-cess. It will be in Omaha, NE July 17 to 22. Registration will open February 1st. See the NCCC web site under “Conventions” for more information. Director of Charities Patrick Dolan said the raffle car win-ner took the car, which will save a lot of trouble dealing with the car, though the dealer agreed to take it back if that was needed. There will be no raffle car in 2016 for multiple reasons, one of them being that the federal income taxes must be prepaid. NCCC has decided to switch to a different charity and the finances get very complex when that happens. The charity system is set up so that all proceeds go to the charity. When there is a switch all the accounts must be emptied and the charity system starts in the hole until a new program can be es-tablished. Sponsorship Director Debbie Lindsey said we have nego-tiated a 12% discount at Eckler’s, with a 5% rebate go-ing to the region the member belongs to. You must give Eckler’s your NCCC number when you order so they know which region is involved. This only works on web orders. If you call and order something the 5% rebate does not kick in. The electronic version of Blue Bars Magazine will appear on the NCCC web site soon after the paper edition is published. There is no notification that it is available -- you must go look for it. The NCM (National Corvette Museum) is dealing with noise issues from the new track. The neighbors say they will not sue, but they want the noise to go away, as it turned out to be much louder than they were led to be-lieve. The NCM has offered to buy out anybody who wanted to sell because of the noise (their employees want those houses close to the NCM so they can live close to work), but so far nobody has taken them up on this offer. They are currently working on adding a dirt berm, which will take about a month. After that they plan to build a sound wall on top of the berm. All NCCC members will get a free one year NCM mem-bership sometime in the future. NCM members get dis-counts at the NCM store and they are working on a smile.amazon deal.

NCCC Meeting Notes—Cont’d By Cliff Harris
The Kimberlee Fast memorial pavilion has been com-pleted and is available to members. Webmistress Joan Thomas said that clubs need to keep their web sites updated because visitors will not return if the content is stale. She said many club web sites haven’t been updated in years. Nominations for national officers were conducted. We have 5 candidates for Secretary, which is very unusu-al. Balloting will be opened on October 1st and will close on October 31st. A tentative Convention bid for 2017 has been dis-cussed. The Convention would be at the same Holiday Inn in Bowling Green as in 2013. The dates will be August 21 (Monday) to August 25 (Friday)
Canepa Museum By John Mahoney
We finally made it to the Canepa Cars & Coffee Sec-
ond Saturday Car Event in Scotts Valley CA, just a few
miles from Santa Cruz. Deb & I were coming back
from a visit with my brother in San Francisco and the
timing was perfect to see the Canepa sales floor and
museum. We had watched Bruce Canepa win multiple
races at the Monterey Historic races for years so
thought a visit to the museum would be nice. We vis-
ited the museum on Friday just to see what was there,
but could not enter the garage area, just view it from
the overlook area next to the museum. Lots of great
cars for sale that included a C2 3-speed coupe, but I
do not think any of them are under $100K. Very me-
ticulously restored and waiting for new owners. The
museum included two cars on loan from the Indianap-
olis Museum otherwise all the cars are owned by Mr.
Canepa. Beautiful display of historic cars and if you
read the history of each the tour would take a long
time. We spent time reviewing both areas and taking
pictures as usual. Then headed back to the hotel until
the next morning.
We did not try and park next to the building because it
stated collectables and classic cars so we parked
across the street in the dirt parking lot. We did see
some unique Volvos, but did not want to push our luck
in thinking our car was something special. There were
lots of unique cars of all kinds including Corvettes,
BMWs, Porsches, Ferraris, Motorcycles, Cobras and
even a first generation Honda. The BMW club was the
invited club for this month’s event so everything came
out of the woodwork. I think I saw every version for
an M series that was ever made and then lots of clas-
sic BMWs too.
Then we got a cup of coffee and donut that was free
and sponsored by Hagerty Insurance. There were
even discounted Rennsport tickets for sale and free
posters. Lots of people enjoying the event.
Canepa Museum By John Mahoney
Then 10 AM came along and there was a two hour mu-
seum, sales area, and garage tour. Our guide was also
the company historian and very informative. He select-
ed about five cars from each section to discuss and the
history of each. I don’t remember any specific cars in
the sales area. They were either low mileage, original,
or had 4000 hours of restoration or detail work accom-
plished to include keeping the original paint.
When we went to the museum area various cars were
discussed to include; the Paris to Dakar Porsche 959,
Buddy Baker Dodge Daytona, original So-Cal 34 Coupe,
Formula Junior car driven by Steve McQueen, or multi-
ple race winning Porsches. Then after that discussion
we walked out to the viewing area of the garage and
went into the garage area to discuss more historic cars.
There were two Vettes there; one a 69 BB convertible in
restoration for a client and a fuel injected 63 coupe that
seemed to be completed. Some of the cars in work or
waiting restoration included multiple Porsche 959s, 64
Ferrari that won Le Mans (multi million dollar car some-
thing close to 75 owned by Indianapolis Museum), Por-
sche 935s, Mercedes 300 SLs, NASCAR/IMSA race cars,
and a few others that I can’t seem to remember. He
answered questions selected a few more cars to discuss
and mentioned many of the cars would be at MRLS later
in September for the Rennsport Reunion either racing or
just for display. It was a full historic car morning and
we headed for home. If you would like to see some of
the cars or watch a short video here is the web address:
