• The Vice President is elected with the President; The President and Vice President run on the same ticket.

• Before the passage of the 12th Amendment in 1804, the position of vice president was given to the candidate who received the second greatest amount of votes in an election.

Responsibilities of the Vice President

• Though the roll of the Vice President is ultimately decided by the President, some given responsibilities are:

• Acting as President of the Senate: If there is a vote that results in a tie, the Vice President cats the deciding ballot. This is the only time the Vice President Votes on legislation.

• The head of the President’s Cabinet.

Responsibilities of the Vice President:

• In the event of the President being unable to carry out his duties as President, it is the responsibility of the Vice President to step and take over the office of the Presidency.
