A word from Sergeant Roughton….

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax help to people who generally make $55,000.00 or less, persons with disabilities, the elderly and limited English speaking taxpayers who need assis-tance in preparing their own tax returns. IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return prepara-tion with electronic filing to qualified individuals. The VITA tax site is part of the We Care Coalition of Joplin. It is located on the second floor in the

Great Plains Federal Credit Union 2306 S. Rangeline Road, Joplin, Missouri

The office opened January 28, 2019. Their hours are 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, until April 15, 2019.

Jasper County Sheriff’s Office

Sergeant Melissa Roughton

Jasper County Sheriff’s Office

Here we are now in 2019. It’s crazy, the older you get, time seems to go by faster, Anyway, I hope everybody had a wonderful holiday season; and I hope 2019 will be a great year for everyone. Since the last newsletter not much has changed. We’ve had a few shoplifters at Harp’s and Walmart, but that’s par for the course. A few traffic citations were written as well. As far as the residents, things have been good. A couple of reports were taken for property damage, but nothing really serious. Spring is around the corner which I’m sure a lot of you are ready for. We still have several days of cold weather left so please continue to keep an eye out for neighbors and pets. Please report animal neglect if you see it. Not just in our area, but any-where. Also, if you notice neighbors are having is-sues or are worried about them, feel free to give us a call so we can check on them. Well, I won’t take up much of your time. Winter is a little slower but I am sure Spring will bring more activity for all. Please stay warm and safe. Never hesitate to call for any concerns. We will talk again in the Spring.

The key to successful communication

is to ask for exactly what you need. I wrote Sgt. Roughton a note

stating that “I needed her letter for the next newsletter”. Her first

submission is below.

There is one in every office……...

VITA Tax Preparation Service What to Bring: For married filing jointly, both spouses must be

present All Forms W-2 & 1099 Information for all other income, deductions/credits A copy of last year’s tax return Proof of account for direct deposit of refund Social Security Cards for everyone on return Proof of identification for yourself and/or spouse Total amount paid to daycare provider and their tax

ID # Birth dates for everyone on the return Forms 1095-A, B or C (ACA Statements) Proof of foreign status if applying for ITIN For prior year returns, copies of income transcripts

from IRS (and state, if applicable)

No appointments are made, clients are served on a first come, first serve basis. The best time to come with minimal waiting is in late February or early March.

Just a reminder, there is no hunting allowed inside the Village. According to Sections 210.840 and 210.920, it is an ordinance violation to discharge or shoot a firearm; BB or air or spring gun; crossbow or bow inside Village limits.

There is so much to information to share about Always Buying Books, in the Village since 2001. Owner Bob Wolfe’s current in-store inventory includes over 80,000 books (give or take 3 or 4). They carry paperback & hard cover, fiction & non-fiction, Christian books, popular & obscure. They have hosted book signings for over 200 local and regional authors, go to their website for announcements of upcoming events. The 2019 Favorites of the Four States poll named Always Buying Books as the Favorite Used Book Store, for the 5th consecutive year. The store was also featured in the Only In Missouri blog.

The Tabor Woods entrance sign had to be removed due to age related damage. Resident Steve Hughlett removed the sign when the bottom part of the sign became detached from the top. Subdivision signs are the responsibility of the subdivision. If residents would like to form a committee to replace the sign, please contact the Village Office. We will help residents coordinate with each other to get started. Call the office at 417-623-6744.

Spot Light on Business

According to Bob, every year, he always wins the vote by one.

Airport Drive has entered into a lease agreement with wireless internet provider Wisper ISP, Inc., allowing them to install antenna equip-ment on the tower south of the Municipal Building. Hopefully, this will create another option for residents for internet service. This is on Wisper’s project list for 2019, but do not have a firm date for installa-tion. We will let everyone know when the installation is finished.

@AlwaysBuyingBooks

Always Buying Books has started donating books to inmates in the Jasper County Jail. With Sheriff Randee Kaiser’s approval, Sergeant Melissa Roughton delivered a donation of 100 books to the jail on February 4th. Bob has committed to donate 100 books a month to the jail, a mixture of modern day fiction, women authors, Christian fiction, classics and westerns. Jasper County will be a trial run. If they can get other counties involved, Bob will gladly donate books to them as well. Stop by and visit with Alyse and Employee of the Year Bob at Always Buying Books.
