The Village Renaissance Faire 2016
Since 2001 Period Productions, along with the Village Library of Wrightstown, has brought literature to life at the library’s renaissance festival fundraiser. Each year Period Productions introduces legendary characters through main stage shows, live combat, audience participation, historical demonstrations, and many other unique opportunities for patrons to become part of the legends themselves.
This year, With the loss of the Kingdom of Orkney to the war with the Saxons, King Arthur has requested King Lot and Queen Anna of Orkney to return to the safety of the kingdom and oversee this year’s festival. As the war continues abroad, King Arthur remains away but has sent many of the tournament Knights to take rest from the front lines and continue their training under King Lot for a period of time.
As part of their new training King Lot brings forth a mercenary group known as the White Company, a hardened group of villagers born out of battle with the Saxons, led by Captain Roger White to help teach the Roundtable tournament knights how to face and win against the Saxons. A day of sport and training turns into a life lesson all will find hard to forget. There is a thin line between defeating your enemies and becoming like your enemies. Join us to see how the tale unfolds!

The Village Renaissance Faire 2016
The Village Renaissance Faire is a Faire for a Cause. Despite its widespread appeal, the Faire remains a volunteer based annual festival that provides the community with a family friendly, alcohol-free forum where they can be entertained, educated and involved in an interactive exploration of the Renaissance. Although the faire proudly boasts acclaimed acts like aerialists, birds of prey, jousters, and firebreathers like the best commercial faires, the Village Faire offers such acts as well as a wealth of additional community involvement and childrens activities not found elsewhere at a fraction of the price. What is also unheard of elsewhere---the way we involve everyone, from wee to senior, novice to experienced, in the faire, in our crafts, our interactive lessons, and, yes, like no place else, you might even become part of our final joust.
The Faire occurs, and has grown, because the community enjoys, attends, and yes continues to participate in the faire year after year, as the Faire proudly boasts something new every year. This community celebration provides a
multi-disciplinary, interactive approach to the visual and performing arts through more than seventy-five live performances by hundreds of performers on eight stages. The Village Renaissance Faire quickly became and now remains the ultimate family friendly event by offering tremendous value to our community through the volunteerism of neighbors and professionals alike so that this charity faire can rival authentic commercial faires. Faire-goers of all ages can explore their creative interests through interactive performances, free lessons at the Renaissance School of Fine Arts and through less structured play in the interactive area, Kids’ Kingdom.
The Village Faire underscores the library’s role as a community resource where ideas, education and entertainment enhance the lives of individuals and our community. We strive to expose the community to creative, historical and unique performances that would otherwise be unavailable to them. The unique approach of the Village Faire as a family friendly, interactive celebration has allowed
The Village Library of Wrightstown and the Village Renaissance Faire remains true to its humble roots and mission:
We are a community born in the principles that every person can make a difference and that every moment matters. We further affirm that education is fun, learning should be something one is passionate about and presented in a manner that personally engages and stimulates the desire to learn all one can.
The Village Renaissance Faire would like to acknowledge the long-standing volunteers who have allowed this community-based faire to develop and blossom. A special thanks to: Tom & Karen Friedman; David and Ellie Bronovicki; Russell & Barbara Darby; Tom & Judith Richardson; Michelle Divine; Diane Marrazzo; Marybeth Wallace;Joanne Schneider; Karen El-Chaar, Tom Crisitello, Chris Dietz, Adelaide Robins and Don Robins, Fred and Marie Wustholz, as well as the many ensembles who volunteer here giving up far more financially lucrative offers to be part of the faire because they believe in our mission, our example, our faire. There are so many more who make this
possible that we cannot mention them all, but we do value and appreciate each individual and organization that partners with us to make a difference in our community. Although we cannot mention all our local partners here, the Village Library of Wrightstown again cannot thank Middletown Grange #684 enough for donating the use of the grounds or Wrightstown Township for making the Village Renaissance Faire possible. Together, we have created an affordable, authentic, family-friendly faire for all.
Why has the Faire continued so long and become a regionally recognized event? Because of You....the business, the person, the performer who hears of us, finds us, and asks to be part of something special. Thank You!

our community to experience many varied performances, personally interact with distinguished artists, and receive free lessons in the visual and performing arts. Each year we invite and provide an open venue for thousands of residents to experience, and sometimes become, professional and aspiring performers. The Faire is defined by its success in appealing to people of all ages and backgrounds, and the countless return visitors year after year. In 2013, the faire gained national attention through the coverage provided by Renaissance Faire magazine.
As a library it should come with no surprise that the cornerstone of the faire is aptly called Living Literature-- where if one suspends disbelief for just one weekend, we will bring literature and history to LIFE. The faire adds new acts and activities every year, and hopes this trend continues. All performers, sponsors, and volunteers are welcome to become part of the Guild of Sir Reads a lot-- the core that brings the faire to life year after year.

Ye Merchants & Sellers of WaresThe Village Faire recognizes that skilled artisans and fine intriguing merchants are a part of the experience, so we carefully select the finest ones around from renaissance faires, independent owners, and crafters guilds. Come partake in the show by watching the blacksmith, the copper worker, wood workers, spinners or fine artisans.
Patron interaction on the Faireways does not stop with the performers at the Village Faire, the merchants are also part of the show… here one of the merchants has placed two-fairegoers into a human knot look at the many ways they tried to escape.

Ye Merchants & Sellers of Wares (Cont.)This year many of the merchants will be involved with the Children’s Quest…an interactive way of weaving history, exploration and interaction between players, merchants, and attendees. This Quest will start at the Society for Creative Anachronism Square and take you, well practically everywhere…enjoy ….. here is a list of all merchants, the ones with ribbons will assist you in your quest. The unbelievable growth of a quaint library’s renaissance faire from an
elementary school gym to a regional event that rivals commercial faires without the cost or alcohol could only happen because of YOU …the Community. To maintain our quality and affordability, while also adding new acts, activities, and realms, requires the commitment of businesses, performers, and volunteers. The Faire is always looking for new ideas and partnerships and will find a way to incorporate almost anything into the Faire…where there is a will there is a way. So we call upon you to help us, help our community:
44 Businesses - the Faire offers exposure to around 9,000 people a year and produces 5,000 programs that can acknowledge you, so think about how good it can be to support the library, arts, education, and volunteerism while also gaining great recognition for your company’s good will. The faire accepts ads, sponsorships, gifts-in-kind, services, and volunteers.
44 Performers – the Faire offers wide exposure to thousands of families at the Faire and in print. We average dozens of feature articles each year and we will work hard to gain you the recognition you deserve for joining and supporting our cause. We are also firm believers in artistic freedom as long as you make it family friendly.
44 Volunteers – the Faire not only creates a family that we now consider our friends but many have also developed connections taking them to college and other venues. During the faire, you can change your stars and you have freedom and support, helping the community in a meaningful and fun way.
“17 years ago, when the faire started, I could never have imagined neither the scope of the faire and its loyal followers, nor the hundreds of new people, performers and businesses I now hold dear.” Faire Founder and Director Ken Hone humbly says in awe of those who have joined the cause, not because of him, but because what the community has made the Faire.
Come one, Come all! Be Part of the Faire.

Period Productions is a performance troupe founded upon the idea of education through entertainment. Using historical recreations and literary devices, our purpose is to share an experience that is not only enjoyable and informative, but also interactive in nature. We strive to leave our patrons not with the feeling that they have simply been spectators, but that they have contributed to the overall exhibition and by doing so, have had a more rewarding experience.
For over fifteen years Period Productions has been providing high quality entertainment and educational programs throughout the tri-state area. Since 2001 Period has worked alongside the Village Library of Wrightstown to produce one of its largest annual undertakings, a Renaissance Festival Fundraiser. For the festival Period Productions brings over 70 costumed performers, 5 stages of entertainment, period-themed games, an armored joust and a 16’ tall trebuchet that launches several times each day. Through this event Period Productions, in association with the library, has brought literature to life for thousands of patrons each year.
Some of Period Productions’ other performances have taken place at Renaissance festivals in NJ, NY, PA and CT and at venues such as the PNC Bank Arts Center in NJ and the Cloisters in New York City. Our theatrical credits also include NFL Films and the History Channel. These venues have given us to opportunity to provide tournaments, stunt shows, choreography, costuming, character actors, and sometimes even the launching of our 16-foot tall trebuchet! In addition to these opportunities, we have also provided hundreds of Medieval, Renaissance, western, and pirate-themed entertainment and educational programs for schools, libraries, scout groups and day camps, as well as at fundraisers, weddings, birthday parties, dinner theatre, corporate events, and charity softball games.

The Village Library
The Village Library of Wrightstown began in the early 1960s as a library fully staffed by volunteers in an former one-room school house. The community’s strong interest in education and neighborhood bonding allowed the library to continue as the community meeting place based exclusively on volunteer support for over twenty years. In the late 1990s, the library recognized the challenges facing the community and the need to maintain the pastoral-ness of the Village Library of Wrightstown as a community meeting place. The Library Board took the ambitious step of increasing its offerings to the community in the hope that its efforts would be appreciated, acknowledged and supported. The small library, located in historic Penns Park, began to offer extensive free adult, children’s, and community programming, and it has been a success ever since.
The Village Library now hosts children’s after school programs, preschool story and craft programs, author lectures, book discussion groups, and state sponsored programs. The new community programming not only includes the Village Renaissance Faire which in 2013, gained national attention with the visit of Renaissance Magazine at the 14th Annual Village Renaissance Faire, but also includes RIO family Olympics, innovative teen programs, as well as the wholesome and nostalgic “Movies by Moonlight” series which offers family friendly movies. There are also teen events, art shows, lectures, concerts, and educational activities including ever innovative S.T.E.M. and S.T.E.A.M. programs, through-out the year. The library has over one hundred volunteers in different capacities; so, if you, your business, or your organization would like to be part of our special family and mission, please let us know. All are welcome.

The Faire’s historical underpinnings continue to grow as other historical guilds join our expanded area that has doubled in size. Our Living History area is overseen by Buckland Cross, the Bucks County chapter of Society for Creative Anachronism (or SCA). The SCA is an international organization dedicated to researching and re-creating the arts and skills of pre-17th-century Europe. Our “Known World” consists of 19 kingdoms, with over 30,000 members residing in countries around the world. Participants,
dressed in clothing of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, attend events which may feature tournaments, arts exhibits, classes, workshops, dancing, feasts, and more. Buckland Cross has many activities in our fair Shire: fencing and archery; weaving, embroidery and sewing; book arts; leatherworking; armoring; glass bead making and so much more! We have participated in the Village Faire at Wrightstown since 1991.
-Living History SCA-
In addition to the fine children’s shows listed in our faire entertainment schedule, the village faire is proud to encourage, exemplify, and encourage the the youth’s interest in activities exhibited by the professionals on the fairegrounds. Kids’ Kingdom and hands-on crafts remain a centerpiece of this community event and its edutainment purposes are children’s Teaching, encouraging, and educating through hands-on activities, skilled guides, and enjoyment. Games and activities are at every turning of the Fairegrounds so that fairegoers are consistently given the opportunity to observe, become involved, and always, be entertained.
The children’s area includes foam archery, a puppet stage, peasant’s music land, castle building, fairie’s castle, and knightly training. The youngest ones can also enjoy free ball play within their own castle walls, as well as tables of sand, water, and bubble play. This safe play area will often give the wee ones a chance to interact with the actors. Giant games are abound including Giant Chess, where patrons and actors alike will interact with 3 foot chess pieces on a chessboard they walk upon themselves. And…its FREE ALL DAY.
Free craft activities are offered to the wee ones to develop their costumes, or even make gnomes and fairies to take to gnome village for their own, self-creative tales and play. The ever popular Kingdom Quest allows the younger attendees to explore and learn about all aspects of the faire, with the prize being children’s knighting by the royal court before the joust.
- Kids’ Kingdom -For the safety of all, children must be accompanied by an adult while at Kids’ Kingdom and on the faire site.

Hunting the way that ancients did is only one of the three separate things that Cheri Heimbach, of Lewisburg, master falconer of Baywing Falconry and the apprentice coordinator for the Pennsylvania Falcon and Hawk Trust, (PFHT) gets to do with her birds of prey. “The basic point is falconry is the oldest hunting sport known to man,” Heimbach said, “It’s 4,000 years old and it’s how they put meat on the table before modern weapons were created.” The history, just like the beauty is not so simple, yet our royal falconer will share, show, and sensationalize these beautiful creatures and history with attendees. She will share and exhibit its hunting, and sporting origins. Come see, experience, and learn more.

The Village Renaissance Faire 2016
Faire Director Ken Hone says the success of the Village Faire rests not in his ability to act, as he often jokes, no-one would come if it did, but rather on the collective talent and commitment of aspiring to professional performers who take time from their lives and either donate or significantly reduce their fees so that the Village Faire can remain the ultimate family Renaissance Faire which is truly affordable to all. The Village Renaissance Faire provides one of the most diverse opportunities for music appreciation and development, from aspiring to professional talent.
Our 2016 Performers Include:Adamo Ignis - ‘To fall in love with flame’ is the latin meaning of Adamo Ignis and it is exactly what you will do when you see this troupe perform! Bringing acts such as fire eating and breathing, fire dancing, broken glass, bed of nails, and much more.”
NEW! Armchair Wizards - The Massive, Multiplayer, On-stage, Live Action Role Playing Game Show (MMOLARPGS for short) is an interactive improvisational experience where you can participate in the game, even if you’re not participating in the game! Three adventurers from the audience join Timotheous the Orange and Lilith the Elf as they lead a journey through the collective nerdism of all things pop-culture. When confronted with a challenge, our adventurers announce their action one-at-a-time, and are given a minimum number which they must roll on our giant 20-sided-die. If they succeed in their roll, they succeed in their action, gaining a level and a new piece of loot!
NEW! ArtyPantz Storytelling, Percussions, & Puppetry - Sunday only interactive performances feature not only her personally designed hand crafted props and puppets, but her imagination and story-telling ability. Come enjoy the Capture and Return of Bald Beatrice the Baby Mermaid, and the “sea”quel Admiral Giddy-up and the Seahorse Brigade to the Rescue.
Celtic Flame School of Irish Dance from Northeast Philadelphia began in 2005. The school’s purpose is to give entertainment to other’s, and keep the irish tradition alive! Ages are from 3 - adult.
Dalla Kaisley of Clan MacAlpin – a long-time village library player and former library player direc-tor returns in her famous role interacting with patrons like only she can, making the event come alive for one and all regardless of their age. The rules (or the “mere guidelines”) of being a pirate and pirate games are explored, explained, and perhaps changed as the day goes on.
Steele Cavalier — War Leaders of the Black Stag - fencing demonstrations for all, foam lessons for the young, a Kingdom Quest for those who are young at heart, led by Robert “Bob” Borton and Tara Spiecker.

The Village Renaissance Faire 2016
The Village Faire would not be possible without our community and business sponsors. Our greatest sponsor and host of our event is the Middletown Grange #684 that makes everything possible. Closely following the countless performer sponsors/volunteers is our long-term main sponsor PECO. They have set the stage for an incredible event that is fairly and comprehensively rounded out by all of our remaining sponsors.
“Grange is a grassroots, non-partisan, non-sectarian, fraternal organization with its roots in agriculture. Although the Grange was originally an organization of farmers, it has evolved to include people from all walks of life who have a common goal to make our world a better place to live. The Grange has been preserving the traditions that have made America a strong and caring country. Middletown Grange is active in promoting programs for rural communities on the local, state, and national level especially community service activities which have gained National recognition. The fairgrounds are used to host and support many community events including Horse Shows, various 4-H events, Dog Shows, Car Shows, township festivals, The Village Library’s Renaissance Faire and several other special interest events. Our largest, most labor intensive, and most fun filled, event is our Grange Fair held annually in August.”
The Grange remains a leader in the community and its generosity makes many events, including the Village Library of Wrightstown’s Annual Village Renaissance Faire possible. WE THANK THEM and we hope you do TOO!!!!
