This weekend is one of my personal favorites here in the Enchanted Mountains. It’s the annual “Jazz & Blues Weekend,” and the sounds around town are way cool, daddy! Jazz aficionados and novices alike can wander through the village and sample a smorgasbord of traditional, big band, swing, fusion, bebop, and contemporary styles by some extremely talented musicians. This year’s celebration will be featuring 13 performances at several different venues around the village. And that’s why I love “Jazz & Blues Weekend” so much – everything is so close,

cozy and convenient! This year will be a veritable “Who’s Who of jazz musicians” when The Mark Mazur Little Big Band and Jim Tudini Band w/ Strings takes to the Monroe Street Main Stage on Saturday and Sunday afternoon. You simply must make these performances a priority! You just don’t get to hear musicians of this caliber around here very often. So, dear readers, “Jazz-ville” will be hip, hot and jumpin’ this weekend – be a part of it and come on down – it’ll be a weekend you’ll never forget! Until next week …

The look and sounds of a bygone era rolled into Ellicottville this week. About 20 antique cars chugged into town for a gathering of the Midwest Grass and Gas auto club. The group holds three events each year at different locals around the Midwest. They chose Ellicottville for this year’s Summer event. All the vehicles in the club must have been built in 1912 or before, making many of the cars 100 years old or more. The cars in the club cover the range of the early American automobile manufacturers: Packard, Hudson, Buick, Oldsmobile,

and Cadillac. From their base at the Wingate, the group drove to Chautauqua Lake on Tuesday, took the ferry from

Bemus Point and traveled up to the Chautauqua Institution. They will be in town through Saturday.

The tournament will take place on Delaware Avenue and North Barry Streets in Olean, NY. The tournament, based on basketball played in driveways throughout the U.S., will include players who have no experience to those who have played college and semi-professional basketball. Primarily based on their age and level of experience, players will be

placed in divisions where they will be most evenly matched. Depending on the number of teams placed in a specific division, players and the teams they’re on will be playing for first- and second- and third trophies. Also teams that finish last in their divisions could receive “Toilet bowl” trophies. The Charter Members of the Gus Macker Olean are Park Centre Development, CUTCO/Ka-Bar Visitors Center, and the Kinley Corporation. Organizers also are looking for volunteers to keep score, serve as referees, assist with water and food distribution, and help set up and tear down. Back in February 2003, Dennis Jones of Jones Realty in Olean attended a member breakfast of the Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce. The idea of the breakfast is for members to speak on benefits received from the Chamber and also bring ideas to the Chamber to work on/ develop. Dennis suggested having a motorcycle event, something like Gowanda’s Harley Happening, where bike owners and the community get together and celebrate motorcycles. Six short months later, the FIRST RALLY IN THE VALLEY was held and produced amazing results. Can you believe Rally is celebrating 10 years this year? Since 2003, the event has grown: in terms of number of days held (2-5); number

Then, he springs into action by updating the menu, retraining the staff and implementing aesthetic changes with the help of his design team. To ensure a packed house for the grand re-opening at the end of day

two, Robert hits the streets to tell the community about the improved restaurant. OLEAN -- The SHOP EAST OLEAN PASSPORT Contest has now begun. The City of Olean and Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce have developed this contest to encourage customer traffic to continue to patronize the East State businesses through the construction time. “The City of Olean realizes that the businesses located in this construction area will be financially impacted. Working with the contractor, we have placed more directional signs and detour signs to help drivers understand the new traffic pattern,” stated Ann McLaughlin, Olean Council

person. “These businesses are our members, and we wanted to help them out – that’s why we created this passport to drive business to the area. We are hoping that not only regular customers will come out, but new people to patronize these businesses,” added Meme Yanetsko, COO of GOACC. OPEN FOR BUSINESS signs were also handed out to all businesses in the zone. The businesses also are encouraged to get out and be proactive – host sidewalk sales, promote events at their establishments, work together -- they can’t wait until sales go down to start.

To participate in this contest, customers pick up a passport at any of the thirty businesses in the zone. The passports instruct them to: bring the passports in to the businesses, patronize the business, visit with the business, and have them STAMP your passport. Once they have visited 15 businesses and had the passport stamped, they turn the passport into the Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce. Those completed passports will be entered to win $250 in Shop Olean Gift Certificates. The passport deadline is September 22, 2012. Mrs. McLaughlin stated, “We know that road construction will be hard on these businesses, but these repairs will be good for them in the end. This project will build a more solid economic foundation for east Olean.” For more information on the passport, please contact GOACC at 372-4433, for construction details; please contact Mrs. McLaughlin at 560-8407 or Tom Windus at 376-5650.

Most people use a condo in ski country as a kind of crash pad between days on the slopes, or attending one of the many Summer Festivals in Ellicottville. Pull into town, dump your stuff, go get a little out of control, come back, crash, go do it all again. That may be fine for those of a certain age, but the rest of us want to add a modicum of refinement to our get away time. In fact, this Mountain View condo adds a generous helping of cultivation, to any activity. Located in one of

the best complexes in town, the attractive, landscaped, stone and wood exterior, sets a gracious tone. Inside you’ll find the kind of amenities and details you expect in a larger home. There are decks at both ends of the unit. The front deck has a view of the slopes at HoliMont, and the back deck has a gate to the green space and woods at the back of the units. A built in wet-bar and fireplace make for easy entertaining. The large dining area accommodates a full dining table. The spacious kitchen features a breakfast bar. A half bath rounds out the main floor. Upstairs is devoted to the large master suite, with a good

sized bathroom. The ground floor has a family room with gear storage, two bedrooms and a bath. The laundry and mechanical room are here as well. The unit is being sold mostly furnished, some of the owners personal items will not stay. But, the comfortable leather couches and dark cherry tables are included. Some of the pieces are very attractive. The home was obviously created as an easy care space for gathering the family, and entertaining. The surfaces and floors are all easy to clean, and the unit has central air conditioning, heating and vacuum. It’s not always easy to find a ski country condo that feels like more than just a skiers crash pad. This one does easily with a sense of style that is both sophisticated and inviting. All you have to do is bring your skis. For more information on this home contact Amy DeTine Licensed Real Estate Associate Broker at ERA Team VP, and HoliMont ERA 716-583-3769.

Photos Left to Right: 1) The living room has a view of the slopes of HoliMont, a stone fireplace, and handsome leather couches. Overhead is a cathedral ceiling with a fan. 2) The third floor is dedicated to the spacious master suite. Note the high ceiling and the fan.

The exterior of this Mountain View condo features landscaping, and a handsome stone and wood exterior.

Photos Left to Right: 1)The fist floor family room has lots of space for ski storage. There are also two bedrooms and a bath. 2) Unusually large for a condo kitchen, this one features, easy clean counter tops, a double sink and a breakfast bar. 3) The built-in wet bar is in the foreground. In the back is the large dining area with a full sized dining table.

OLEAN -- The Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce and its Taste of Olean Event Committee have announced its sixth class of inductees to the Taste of Olean Hospitality Wall of Fame Awards program: Lou Russo; Nick Livoto; and Steve Hollowell. The Hospitality Wall of Fame recognizes individuals and/or businesses who have made a significant contribution and given exceptional service to the food service/ hospitality industry in the past and who may continue to do so. All have succeeded in excelling at all the most important elements of a great restaurant - inviting atmosphere, friendly staff and impeccable food in its stylish artistic presentation and its innovative flavor combination.NICHOLAS LIVOTO Libratore Angelo Fratercangelo made his journey from Italy to America in 1904. With the help of his son Nicky, he opened a restaurant in 1948 at 475 North Union Street. Nicholas Fratercangelo, also known as “Little Nicky,” retired from his job at Clark Brothers in 1948 to assist his father in the management of Angee’s Restaurant. Nicholas Livoto was one of Angee’s original employees. He was referred to as “Big Nick” because he was much bigger than Nicky Fratercangelo. Big Nick was the head chef at Angee’s for 44 years. He had a flare for serving up many a delicious meal. When he was in the kitchen you knew it wouldn’t be long before your favorite Angee’s meal was at your table ready to eat. Big Nick passed away in 1988 but sometimes on a busy Friday night, you can still hear him in the kitchen giving orders.LOU RUSSO He had a voice that was impossible to forget, a voice that left audiences wanting more and brought crowds to their feet. That voice has gone silent. Noted baritone Louis “Lou” Russo was best known for performing his rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” before St. Bonaventure University basketball games, and “New York, New York” during halftime. But for more than two decades, he was also a regular performer at the Castle restaurant and at area events, nursing homes, fundraisers, weddings and funerals. Born Sept. 22, 1922, a son of two Italian immigrants, Mr. Russo began singing at age 11. He picked up the talent from his father, Antonio. After graduating from Olean High School in 1941, he joined the Navy. Mr. Russo traveled the world during the four years he served in the U.S. Navy, and he spent time singing to

Wall Of FameThree More Additions To The Olean Hospitality Wall of Fame

wounded troops in Australia before ending up in New York City and New Jersey, singing with big bands. It was there that Mr. Russo met his wife, Mary, to whom he was deeply devoted. He was on his way to the big time, but instead returned to Olean with his beautiful wife Mary and worked at McGraw Edison for the next 32 years. Mr. Russo and Mary had one child together, a daughter who would give them five grandchildren. Mr. Russo’s family, especially his nieces, nephews and grandchildren, “were his life.” He was very family-oriented. Lou was a genial, caring, sociable and well-liked performer who shared his singing talent with this community that he loved. When asked, Lou sang at weddings, special occasions, and charitable fundraisers. For thirty years he sung the national anthem at the St. Bonaventure games free gratis. This came about when the Reilly Center opened in 1966 and Larry Weise, then the Bonnie coach, requested that Lou sing the anthem before the basketball game. There was lots of love that the St. Bonaventure University students had for Mr. Russo during his time singing at basketball games, and this love was universal. Lou received the 1992 Golden Deeds award from the Exchange Club in May of that year. The club recognized him for a lifetime of sharing his talents as well as himself and most of all by singing the national anthem at the beginning of each St. Bona basketball games. In 1997, Lou planned singing the music he loved with the Bob Lucia Big Band Orchestra. At St. Bona’s annual homecoming in February 1998, Lou was presented with a plaque for his years of entertainment by the athletic administration. It was on this occasion that Lou sang his final national anthem before the Bonnies basketball game. We miss you Lou, miss your friendly smile, your rich baritone voice and the joy your talent brought to many, many of us in this community. STEVE HOLLOWELL Steven Hollowell was born and raised in Olean. His restaurant career began in early 1970s as a bus boy at the Castle Restaurant, owned at that time by Guerino “Butch” Butchello, and supervised by Al Lafredo. After graduating from Olean High School, Steve attended Fredonia State College. While there, with a recommendation from Dan Butchello, he worked as a waiter at Rusch’s Restaurant in Dunkirk near Lake Erie. He returned to Olean in 1973 and was employed at McGraw Edison for a short time before returning to the Castle as a

banquet waiter. He advanced to banquet director, then to dining room manager, and finally to general manager. During these years, Steve had the honor of working with “Butch,” Danny, Jerry and David Butchello, along with learning much from Chef Anthony Lentola. Steve left the Castle in 1991 just prior to its closing. A few months later, he was contacted by the owners of Moonwink’s Restaurant and asked to take over managing operations of their year-old fledging restaurant in Cuba, NY. Many of his customers and some of his staff from the Castle followed, which allowed Steve to quickly establish a solid foundation on which to grow. Strong support from shareholders has allowed Steve to continue to grow and expand the restaurant and bring it to the level of great food and fine service which he is accustomed to. Along with now being a shareholder, Steve has supervised many remodeling and expansion projects, worn every hat from maintenance, to cook, to bartender, to dishwasher, and everything in between with the same enthusiasm as his early years. He always listens to customers and co-workers suggestions, evaluates, and then implements the necessary ideas/strategies that will benefit the business. His dedication and love of the business has created a long and successful career, and he looks forward to another 20 years at Moonwinks. Steve is a board member of the Cuba Chamber of Commerce and an Advisory Board member of Alfred State College Culinary Department. He resides in Cuba with his wife of 21 years, Tamra, and two children, Olivia & Sean. Bon Appetite! The winners of the Taste of Olean Hospitality Awards will be recognized during the 22nd Annual Taste of Olean, held July 29 at the Cattaraugus County Campus of Jamestown Community College CUTCO Theater, 1:45 PM. Past inductees to the Hospitality Wall of Fame include: Guerino “Butch” Butchello and Chef Anthony Lentola; Chef Pasquale “Patsy” Piccioli; John Sawaya; Sr.; Carl Iseman; Louis and Nancy Giannechini; Lucia “Lou” Bardenett; William “Bill” Augostini; Quinto and Dora Bagazzoli; Nicholas “Nick” Fratarcangelo; Louis Marra; Daniel Fessenden, Robert Styles, Tony Bassano, Jim McAfee, Neal and Denis Goodemote; Paul and Mary Psathas; Anthony Zampogna; and James Pappas. For more information, please contact the Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce at 372-4433 or by email [email protected].

(Buffalo, N.Y.) – The Graycliff Conservancy announces Summer Twilight Tours of the Graycliff Estate on select Friday evenings in July and August. The cares of the work-a-day world will drift away as you experience the tranquility of a Summer Twilight at Graycliff. Frank Lloyd Wright imbued his design of Graycliff with what he called “repose”: the simplicity and calm of splendid architecture set amidst verdant acres of grounds on the brim of the lake. Graycliff’s rich history and architectural splendor, set against the serenity of Lake Erie, can be yours for a summer twilight. Listen to the sounds of the water lapping against the shore, the cool breeze rustling the tall old trees, the birds calling each to each. Enjoy a leisurely guided tour, and relax with a glass of wine, coupled with a selection of cheeses and summer fruits as the rest of the world fades away into the twilight. Fridays: July 13, July 20, July 27, August 3 and 10, 2012; 6

pm to 8:30 pm Age 21 and up only. Admission: $40; free for Graycliff Leadership Circle members. Reservations and pre-payment required. Please call 716-947-9217 or email [email protected] for information. See our website at www.graycliffestate.org About Graycliff: Set high on a cliff with sweeping views over Lake Erie, Graycliff stands as an architectural jewel awaiting your discovery. Built between 1926 and 1931, the Graycliff Estate was designed by the renowned American architect Frank Lloyd Wright for Isabelle R. Martin and her husband, Larkin Company executive Darwin D. Martin. Graycliff served as the Martin summer home from 1927 to the mid-1940s. A complex of three buildings set amidst more than eight acres of rolling lawns and gardens also designed by Wright, Graycliff is a scenic and simple 20 minute drive south of downtown Buffalo in the town of Derby. A New

York State Landmark, and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Graycliff Estate is a vital element of the community-wide initiative to advance cultural tourism. Frank Lloyd Wright designed Graycliff for Isabelle Martin, and it was she who had the most influence over the design. Isabelle Martin’s failing vision led her to direct Wright to create structures full of sunlight and air. Wright fulfilled her wishes magnificently. About the Graycliff Conservancy: The non-profit Graycliff Conservancy was founded in 1997 specifically to acquire, preserve, and restore the Graycliff Estate. A true grass-roots success story, thanks to volunteers and professionals throughout Western New York and across the United States, the Graycliff Conservancy has accomplished most of its original goals, and is making great progress in completing restoration of the Graycliff Estate, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.

Citizens of Ellicottville and the surrounding areas will now have the opportunity to experience a taste of the old-fashioned, thanks to the Ellicottville Country Store, located just two miles outside of the downtown area. The Ellicottville County Store is owned by Laura and Tom McLeod, and has a history that dates back to more than 150 years ago. The store is located in what used to be called Ashford Junction. Laura McLeod said that to this day, the County Store is the only remaining part of the junction. “When you walk in, it’s like stepping back in time,” she said. “It’s truly nostalgic. Customers are absolutely amazed when they come in.” The store originally opened in 1870 as a general store that specialized in clothing and other goods. Following that, it was purchased in the late 1930s and turned into a Harley Davidson store, one of the first in New York state. The store was then later expanded into both a store and a diner in later years, and the McLeods purchased both the store and the diner from its previous owner in May of this year. McLeod said that after much cleaning,

painting and rearranging, the store had its grand opening this past weekend. “It was very successful,” she said. “So many people stopped through to see what we had done with space.” Although the McLeods reopened the store, Laura said it was very important for them to keep most of the original settings and ideas. “Our store moral is to provide quality goods, fair prices and old-fashioned service,” she said. “We want every person who comes into the store to be excited to come back time and time again.” McLeod said that the Country Store is unique in that there isn’t anywhere else around where you can purchase items that can be purchased there. “We’re a unique store with unique items,” she said. “We sell beautiful pieces that you can’t get anywhere around here.” McLeod said that they acquire all of the items featured in the store have been purchased from some of its original store inventory, and the rest is mostly American and locally made. The goods available at the store are all across the board, including everything from old-fashioned penny candies, hand-made placemats, soaps and candles, cookware and utensils, and a food pantry full of Omish

made jams and jellies and spices. Also available are toys, jewelry, camping items, and antiques. McLeod said that the second floor of the store was renovated as an antique shop with 12 vendor booths. “When you walk upstairs, you can just tell that the antiques look like they belong there because everything just looks so old and unique,” she said. McLeod also said that they have antique specialists available who help customers out with their purchases and any questions they may have. McLeod said that they have big plans in store for the future. “We’re looking to get the attached diner open in a few weeks,” she said. “Expanding the second floor as the antique store was already a good pre-expansion, and the diner is the next project.” McLeod also said that they are going to expand the gift shop this winter. So if you’re interested in taking a step back in time and getting a feel of the old-fashioned Ellicottville, stop into the Country Store and see what they have to offer. “We’ve got something for everyone,” she said. “This store appeals to a multitude of generations. We have no doubt that everyone will be able to find a piece of history here to take with them.”

for area restaurants to showcase their talents, and for lucky attendees to get a small taste at a great price. Participating restaurants will present smaller portions of popular and new dishes at affordable costs ranging from 50 cents to $3.50. This year’s Taste of Olean features savory and sweet treats from Baldwin Hill Farms, Beef ‘n’ Barrel Restaurant, Brother’s Bistro, Cojones Cantina, Jared’s Treats, JCC Alumni, Miller’s Farm Market, Pizza Hut WingStreet, Randy’s Up the River, Scooter’s Pizza and

Wrapped in Dough. The fun does not stop there. In addition to live music showcasing local area artists and a children’s area with rides from the Olean Family YMCA, CUTCO Cutlery Corporation is returning this year to host chef demonstrations with Bill Baker from BOCES at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. under the CUTCO tent. New this year, attendees are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item as a donation for the Olean Food Pantry. With each donation, you get a chance to win a $250 Shop Olean gift certificate. Last but certainly not least, held in conjunction with Taste of Olean, Art in the Park - sponsored by the Cattaraugus

County Arts Council - is a juried fine arts show with a long-standing tradition of promoting the finest art in southwestern New York and northwestern Pennsylvania. Artists featured in the 63rd Annual Art in the Park include Cherie Antle, John Balacki, Nadine Dyskant-Miller, Patricia Eckstrom, Cari Feltz-Abdo, Theresa Heinz, Tom Martin, Keith McKale, Kristina McLeod, Jennifer Miller, Ronald Peterson, Barbara and Philip Procter, Betty Runkle, Michael Weishan, WildHeart Photography and Terry Zink. continue to press for a resolution among all parties involved, including federal, state, and tribal officials. They are quick to add they are not taking sides in the ongoing dispute between New York State and the Seneca Nation, but will urge to have the roadway repaired. Southern Tier West Executive Director Richard Zink said talks are taking place about the matter on the state level, “but it’s such a puzzle, and not just this issue.” Chautauqua County Executive Greg Edwards urged that pressure be applied to both sides. Referring to condition of the highway, Edwards said, “The image it sends to the people who come to our region is devastating.” He added that a lot of people traveling to Albany or central New York from Jamestown refuse to come this way because of the worn-out stretch of Route 86.

Among the five proposed regional projects, Jamestown Community College is seeking ARC funds help finance the purchase of a new, 3D

laser scanner for forensic investigations. JCC Assistant Professor for Criminal Justice Brian Barone said the new equipment would be available to students at all the JCC campuses, including Olean, Jamestown, and Dunkirk. Law enforcement would also use the equipment. “What is does is provide a panoramic, GPS-based image of a crime scene.” Students and law enforcement officers would be able to examine the evidence at the crime scene, which will be preserved as it is found. Barone, who once served as a deputy in Florida law enforcement, said “That’s really impossible to do until this equipment came out.” Plans also call for students to be able to go to a college-owned “CSI House” to examine mock crime scenes using this technology. exPandinG equestRian tRail

Also on the list of projects being considered for possible ARC funding is the Chautauqua County Equestrian Trail, which is looking to be expanded from Cockagine to the Village of Cherry Creek. In addition, Southern Tier West would like to expand its watershed program. This would involve education of town planning boards and highway superintendents. Zink says, “We’re trying to help towns and villages better manage storm water events. So

if there’s heavy rain or flooding and culverts get washed out, or when there’s new development with a lot of new pavement put down, we’ll help them manage the water better to lessen flooding issues.”Business tRaininG FoR aRtists Elsewhere, SUNY-Fredonia is looking to set up a “C-PACE” program, which is an incubator for artists. It’s a place where artists can go to and get advice on how to set up a business plan, how to market, and how to expose their artwork to potential buyers.

neW WateR Main in Wellsville

Another project aims to construct a water main in the Wellsville area to service Alstom Power Corporation and fifteen other businesses along the Route 417 manufacturing corridor near Wellsville. Supporters note that Alstom added 100 or so new jobs in 2005. The project intends to retain 800 jobs, with possible additional expansion. Zink says the next step is for the board to prioritize the projects for funding, with the recommendations sent to the Department of State in Albany. “They will finalize their funding priorities off of our suggestions.” That would be for the next ARC funding year, which starts in October.

the concern could be addressed by posting no parking signs near the area of concern. Despite that, planners said they are awaiting state Environmental Quality Review work, a variance from the Zoning Board of Appeals regarding the building being closer to the road than is usually permitted, a complete application that addresses elevation, drainage,

snow removal, landscaping and more, along with review of the Cattaraugus County Planning Board before allowing the project to commence. Although they noted the ball is in developers’ hands to get them the data, planners meet the end of August or could call a special meeting prior if necessary to approve the proposal to build the Tim Horton’s.Glen Burn Subdivision A “coming soon” sign was also approved for Glen Burn Subdivision. Plans for the subdivision, to be built on Route 219, will be presented to planners

once complete. On Monday, however, they approved the sign for the intended subdivision. Ilex Inn owners visited the session in hopes of ensuring construction will not bother guests of the establishment, located near the intended project. Developers said they will work with the owners as they pursue plans.Gravel Mine Plans Approved In other news, planners granted a special use permit to Cold Spring Construction. A permit was previously granted for their gravel mine, with a renewal needed. Since no changes were applied for, planners granted the matter.

The 2012 Ellicottville Ultra Trail Run kicks off on Sunday, August 5th. At 9:30 am start for the 12-miler, 10:00 am start for the 4-miler. Two courses feature a challenge for everyone. The 4-mile course is a rough run that will demand 100% attention featuring just over a 600’ elevation to the top of the first climb. It’s a single track that will explore rock gardens and tight trails to/from the Holiday Valley Mountain Sports Center. The 12-mile course is a longer, more difficult version of the 4-miler that will challenge you

almost to the limit. Starting and finishing at the Mountain Sports Center runners cross the State Land and continue for miles on a manicured single track, through rock gardens, up and down challenging climbs and descents plus a few gravel road recovery sections. Three water / energy stops help keep you hydrated and energized (some self-serve). Clear course markings help make the EVL Ultra 12 the race of the season for many. The 12-miler is an intermediate / advanced level run that will demand your attention every step of the way. Once the starting bell sounds it’s you against the course, and what a day it will be. Rain or shine, thick forest cover provides terrific protection.

A fun post-race party featuring lunch, great door prizes and DJ at the Mountain Sports Center. Shower facilities at the main lodge at Holiday Valley will not be available this year due to lodge re-construction. Ample hoses will be available to clean off your running shoes. The 2012 Ultra helps support the American Diabetes Association of WNY. The race starts at Holiday Valley Mountain Sports Center. Packet pickup on race-day from 8 am. Race day registration is welcomed. No one will be turned away. Entry fees are for the 12-miler $30 and for the 4-miler $25. The first 200 entrants will receive a free t-shirt. Awards are given to overall male/ female & masters male / female for each distance.

would occupy part of the ground floor of the building with other retail spaces and a set of six one bedroom apartments on a new top floor. The actual address for the proposed development is 6599 Route 219 in Ellicottville. One Board member commented that the plans seem to show a rather large Horton’s, with 45 seats and outdoor seating

around a fire pit. The Board noted that there was no storm water drainage plan or landscaping plan. The Board made a motion to accept the plans with the stipulation that they receive a plan for dealing with storm drainage and landscaping. In other business the Board reviewed a request from the Town of Allegany to revise their zoning ordinance to limit the maximum height of wind turbines. The current zoning ordinance does not call for a maximum height. The revised zoning ordinance will limit the maximum height to 497 feet

and will not affect any current project. The Board also heard a proposal for a large family recreational facility to be built in Olean. The 31,100 square foot facility will house a bowling alley, a restaurant, and retail shops. The existing and unused miniature golf course will be refurbished and integrated into the new facility. As in the Tim Horton’s plans, the Board noted the lack of a storm drainage plan, and landscaping. A motion was made to accept the plans with the stipulation that the storm drainage plan be submitted to the Board. The motion passed.

★ ★ Sudoku Challenge ★ ★To solve a Sudoku puzzle, place a number into each box so that each row across, each column down, and each small 9-box square within the larger diagram (there are 9 of these) will contain every number from 1 through 9. In other words, no number will appear more than once in any row, column, or smaller 9-box square. Working with the numbers already given as a guide, complete each diagram with the missing numbers that will lead to the correct solution.

Good luck!
