Members of the Villages Men’s Fun Club

As of this writing, the Villages Men’s Fun Club has 46 members.

We’ve routinely had about 25-30 attending our Zoom meetings.

We missed the picnic this month, but are definitely planning to

meet at Gazebo Park in September for pizza, potluck, and friends. Keep September 21 on your

calendar.

Our next meeting will be a Zoom event on June 15th and our speaker will be zooming to us

from the Tech Museum in San Jose.

We are hoping to hold our first live in person luncheon on July 20th in the clubhouse. Keep

your fingers crossed for that one. If all goes as planned, members will pay for lunch and the

VMFC will pay for a beer/wine/soda for each member in attendance to celebrate re-opening.

Our speaker will talk about heart health. I’ll have more information as soon as we hear from

The Villages regarding that meeting. There will be one big change. Our SIR meetings were

drop-ins, and we projected attendance for the kitchen to prepare meals. Usually, that worked,

but when it didn’t, it cost SIR money for unpurchased meals. In the future, we will require

reservations so that kitchen staff have an exact number. More on that when we get the green

light to go ahead.

I’m hoping to see you all soon!

The Tech Interactive, coming out of the pandemic.

During our 12 Noon Tuesday, June 15th lunchtime meeting via ZOOM, Maria Pappas, executive VP of the San Jose Tech Interactive (formerly the Tech Museum) will share with us a bit of the Tech’s history as well as how they have persevered throughout the pandemic.

The Tech Interactive opened in downtown San Jose in 1998. It has grown to become a beloved institution for students, educators and families around the Bay Area. Maria will

share with us a bit of The Tech's history as well as how they have persevered throughout the pandemic. Educational programs switched to virtual and the organization reached

even more people than in a typical year. Maria will discuss some of The Tech's most successful programs while also reviewing their plan for growth in the future.

Brief Bio: Maria is a Bay Area native born and raised in Cupertino, CA. After graduating from UCLA she began her nonprofit career. She spent 22 years working for the American

Heart Association where she served as Executive Director for the Silicon Valley office among other fundraising roles. She is currently the Vice President of Development for

The Tech Interactive, formerly The Tech Museum. Maria has been at The Tech since 2012. She was hired to build a successful fundraising team and to lead a $50M Capital

Campaign to refresh the exhibits, which they have done during her tenure. Maria lives in Silver Creek with her husband Anthony and dog Bruno. They have two kids, Nick (24)

and Katie (22). Maria is currently working on her Master's degree in Nonprofit Leadership and Management from Arizona State University.

Notable June Events:

Father’s Day:

Father's Day is a celebration honoring fathers and celebrating fatherhood, paternal

bonds, and the influence of fathers in society. It was first proposed by a woman,

Sonora Dodd of Spokane, Washington in 1909. It will occur on Sunday, June 20.

Flag Day:

Celebrated June 14. For 2021 it will take place on Monday, June 14.

Many Americans celebrate Flag Day by displaying the Red, White and Blue in front

of homes and businesses. The day commemorates the adoption of the Stars and

Stripes as the official flag of the United States.

On the 14th of June 1777, Congress made the following resolution: “The flag of the

United States shall be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white, with a union of

thirteen stars of white on a blue field.

For July:

Independence Day July 4th falls on a Sunday, it will be celebrated on Monday July 5.

The Fourth of July celebrates the passage of the Declaration of Independence by

the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776. The Declaration announced the political

separation of the 13 North American colonies from Great Britain.

The Second Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence on July

4, 1776, with 12 of the 13 colonies voting in favor and New York abstaining.

Who originally said laughter is the best medicine? In the 1300s, Henri de Mondeville, a professor of surgery, propagated post-operative therapy with humor. So here are some funnies:

Longevity

1. The inventor of the treadmill died at the age of 54

2. The inventor of gymnastics died at the age of 57

3. The world bodybuilding champion died at the age of 41

4. The best footballer in the world Maradona, died at the age of 60.

5. James Fuller Fixx credited with helping start America's fitness revolution by popularizing the sport of running died of a heart attack while jogging at 52 years of age.

BUT 5. The KFC inventor died at 94. 6. Inventor of Nutella brand died at the age of 88 7. Imagine, cigarette maker Winston died at the age of 102 8. The inventor of opium died at the age of 116 in an earthquake 9. And the Hennessey Liquor inventor died at 98.

The rabbit is always jumping up and down but it lives for only 2 years and the turtle that doesn't exercise at all, lives 400 years. So, take some rest, chill, stay cool, eat, drink and enjoy your life.

Phone Conversation:

A telephone sales person makes a call to an unknown prospect and a very small, very soft, very

quiet, and obviously young person answers the phone.

Sales person: Hello, may I speak to the man of the house please?

Youngster: (whispering) No, he's busy.

Sales person: Well then, can I please speak to your mother?

Youngster: (in a whisper) she’s busy too.

Sales person: I see, how about your brother? Can I speak to him?

Youngster: (whispering) no. He's busy too.

Sales person: (losing patience) Is your sister there? Can I talk to her?

Youngster: (in a whisper) she’s busy too.

Sales person: (by now quite exasperated) what are all these people doing that keeps them so

busy?!!!

Youngster: (still whispering) Looking for me.

On the 8th day - God created Seniors:

Most seniors never get enough exercise. In His wisdom God decreed that seniors become forgetful so they would have to search for their glasses, keys, and other things, thus doing more walking. And God looked down and saw that it was good. Then God saw there was another need. In His wisdom He made seniors lose coordination so they would drop things, requiring them to bend, reach, and stretch. And God looked down and saw that it was good. Then God considered the function of bladders and decided seniors would have additional calls of nature, requiring more trips to the bathroom, thus providing more exercise. God looked down and saw that it was good. So if you find, as you age, you are getting up and down more, remember it's God's will. It is all in your best interest even though you mutter under your breath.

Nine Important Facts to Remember as We Grow Older: #9 Death is the number 1 killer in the world.

#8 Life is sexually transmitted. #7 Good health is merely the slowest possible rate at which one can die. #6 Men have two motivations: hunger and hanky-panky, and they can't tell them apart. If you see a gleam in his eyes, make him a sandwich. #5 Give a person a fish and you feed them for a day. Teach a person to use the Internet and they won't bother you for weeks, months, maybe years. #4 Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in the hospital, dying of nothing. #3 All of us could take a lesson from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism. #2 In the 60's, people took LSD to make the world weird. Now the world is weird, and people take Prozac to make it normal.

#1 Life is like a jar of jalapeno peppers. What you do today may be a burning issue tomorrow.

A Few Darwin Award Contestants:

This South African cop probably missed a few training days

Irony:

Timber!

Keep on believing! Nothing can go wrong.

What's the one part of your body you'd trust to a galloping giant?

Do you think he's a professional window cleaner?
