From the Baron & Baroness
Unto our well-beloved populace do Lachlahn and Jane, Baron and Baroness of Aneala, send greetings and well-wishes for the coming year.
No sooner have we recovered from the Festive season - in which Jane had the joy of travelling back to Politarchopolis to spend time with Their Excellencies Alessandro and Isobel and many of their populace - than we now embark on a very busy year, which promises great rewards for our efforts.
We would firstly like to commend Mistress Murheign and her team for a most won-derful evening's entertainment and frivolity at the Midsummer Italian Carnivale, at which there was much merriment, music and fine company. It was an event enjoyed by all, and one that shall long be remembered.
We now look forward to expanding our populace as we prepare to welcome new play-ers through the College of St Basil, whose upcoming Newcomers Feast we anticipate with great enthusiasm. It is a time of peace and prosperity for Aneala, in which the spectre of imminent warfare over a disputed crown no longer darkens our horizons. We have reason to celebrate, and we look forward to the company of many of our populace as we welcome newcomers to our society.
Mindful of our great appreciation for our populace, we encourage you to commend to us those whom you feel to be worthy of recognition for their efforts and talents. As you are all by now aware, Their Most Gracious Majesties, Berengar and Bethan, shall be visiting our shores with their successors for the Midwinter Coronation, so please con-sider recommending your fellow Anealans for Kingdom-level recognition as well. We know there are many deserving lords and ladies amongst you!
We remain
Yours in service,
Lachlahn Jane
Baron Baroness

From the XIIth Night Steward
Unto the populace of Aneala and its surrounds Thank you all for attending the Italian Carnivale. I hope you all had as much fun playing as I did running it. For my final event as a part of this group you showed me what I will miss about the SCA on the west coast of Lochac . I would like to thank , in no particular order , for their help in running this event: Baron Lachlahn, Lady Sorcha , Lady Nicole , Baroness Morwenna, Lady Seraphina, Mistress Rhianwen, Baroness Catherine, Baron Nathan, Lady Anneleyn and Senora Catalina. Without these Gentles you would not have eaten , nor would we have had a site . Their assistance with set-up and throughout the event was invaluable. For the gift of Masks from Mistress Antonia from Mordenvale I can only say: “OMG — Thank you!” For those who didn’t see them, one was gifted at the event*, and the other is in the care of their Excellencies . They were stunning and beautiful gift to us. Lastly I look forward to keeping in touch with you all and wish everyone all the best your life offers. For those of you who wish I will be having a few drinks at my current home on the evening of the 8th of March to say farewell. You are welcome at any time after 7:30pm. Please note some nibbles will be provided but not substantial foods. I hope to see you there . If you know not my address call me 0407 719 994.
Yours, as always, In service to Crown and Lochac Viscountess Muirghein ni Ghrainne OP,OL, GOA. *Chronicler’s note: You can see this mask on the back cover of this issue of The Vine.

From the Mid-Winter Steward
Good Gentles,
As you will hopefully be aware by now, Aneala has the honour of hosting Kingdom Mid-Winter this coming July.
This is no small matter. Far from being the work of a dedicated few, organising and car-rying out the weekend will require the efforts of many of us.
To this end, therefore, I ask that all of you who would like to assist in making this event a success please contact me as soon as possible.
You can contact me by e-mail at:
[email protected]@[email protected]@bigpond.net.auauauau
or my mobile: 0408 099 3460408 099 3460408 099 3460408 099 346
Yours in service Rhianwen ni Dhiarmarda
Wanted
Any Old Armour … (New is also acceptable)
Do you have any unused armour lying around? Know someone who has armour gathering dust?
Or some leather or basket hilts you no longer need?
I'm looking for armour and other fighting equipment no longer being used to put together a few loaner suits so we can help our new and future fighters get into the action sooner, to enjoy the
thrill of combat, the clash of arms, the braining of our mates and the exhilaration of inflicting pain upon others before they do it to us.
If you have anything lying around or can hassle someone into donating a piece or two, I'll be at
Baronial training each Sunday (if maybe a little late) or I can be contacted on:
0405 570 885 0405 570 885 0405 570 885 0405 570 885 or [email protected]@[email protected]@iinet.net.au
and we can arrange something
Thank you greatly for any assistance Conan

An Opportunity! Are you looking for something more in the SCA? Are you interested in creating things? Have you considered becoming an Arts and Sciences Minister? The Arts and Sciences office is not especially difficult or demanding. You will be closely involved with everyone who is working on arts and sciences projects (almost everyone in the SCA at some point in time) and with Baronial A&S projects. You get your name in The Vine, and a shiny (almost) new officer’s medallion. If you become Aneala’s new A&S Minister you will be expected to: Be a member Report to the Lochac A&S Minister, the Anealan Seneschal and the Baron and Baroness every three months. This is quite simple and pro-forma reports are available. Arrange A&S competitions throughout the year. Attend council regularly so you know what is going on and what events you might need to organise A&S activities at. Keep an eye on the various regular A&S activities that are already happening so that you can report on them. In addition, you may wish to run workshops, regular classes, or a weekend of classes on a specific topic or a vast array of topics; you might want to put together an A&S newsletter or add to the articles on the Anealan website; or you might have other new and interesting ideas for encouraging the arts and sciences in Aneala. If you think you might have an interest in this office please ask me about it or speak to the Seneschal or the Baron and Baroness. You can also check out the A&S Minister’s Page on the Lochac website for more information about the office.!
