Love means we have a willingness to live the Gospel joyfully,
sharing our faith confidently.
Humility leads to a life
of gratitude and
generosity.
Charity inspires
us to reach out, not only to those close to us, but
also to those living on the margins.
THE PARISH AS ONE BODY “If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole body were hearing, where would the sense of smell be? But as it is, God placed the parts, each one of them, in the body as he intended… The eye cannot say to the hand, ‘I do not need you,’ nor again the head to the feet, ‘I do not need you.’ Indeed, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are all the more necessary . Now you are Christ’s body, and individually parts of it. “ (1 Cor. 12:17-25)

A NOTE FROM FR. MIKE PONTARELLI, O.S.M.
February 17, 2019
Today, Sunday, February 17 is the Feast of the Seven Holy Founders of the Servite Order. The Sunday Liturgy takes precedence over (trumps?) the Founders’ Feast. You all know St. Juliana Parish is staffed by priests of a religious order in the Catholic Church, specifically the Servite Order. You may be familiar with the founders of other orders, St. Francis for the Franciscans, St. Dominic for the Dominicans, St. Ignatius of Loyola for the Jesuits, St. John Bosco founded the Salesians.
Seven Holy men founded the Servite Order in 1233 in Florence, Italy – a most beautiful place in the whole world but why belabor the obvious! About these seven saints we can say they lived a long time ago. A record mentions there were seven of them. Compared to other saints in our
Church about whom much is known, not much is known of our First Fathers.
What we don’t know is not as important as what we do know from what our Seven First Fathers of the Order taught those who would follow them. If you wish to be holy, be in a relationship with Jesus, and Holy Mary. Learn from them the spirit of moral perfection and virtue. The Seven Founders formed a relationship with Mary that made the bond between them so strong that they could not be apart from each other and their Lady, Mother Mary. These seven lived as one and they were canonized as one. Their particular canonization on January 15, 1888, as one, was unprecedented in ecclesiastical history.
Jesus taught, we must become one. One in bearing with each other, with the particular virtues of humility, gentleness, and compassion.
I invite you to form a stronger relationship with Jesus and His Mother, Mary. The relationship you have with Jesus will focus all other relationships and moral choices you make.
In your charity, please pray for the Servite Order, Order Friar Servants of Mary, around the world. In your prayer and vocation for yourself, consider the Secular Order of the Servants of Mary, a vocation and special calling for single and married people within the Church. In our parish family is a community of Servite Seculars, you will find more information about them by contacting their prioress, listed on page two of this weekly bulletin.
As The Seven Founders were one then, so must we be one today. WE ARE ONE is the theme of the 2019 Pastoral Services Appeal. “Help us to share our abundant blessings as living witnesses of the Gospel message. Give us the grace to live as one.”
Along with the Franciscans, Augustinians, Dominicans, and Carmelites the Servites are the five great mendicant orders of our Church. Warning: mendicant means “Begging, living solely on alms.” Today our parish begins its 2019 Pastoral Services Appeal (PSA) campaign. Reflect, discern, and respond: what you can contribute for the One good of our Diocese of Orange and parish of St. Juliana. Your gift will mean a more vibrant diocese and parish. What can you, with the gifts you have been given, do to strengthen our Catholic community?
Are you living safely and morally with social media and the internet? Integrityrestored.com; CMGparent.org; theporneffect.com, reclaimsexualhelath.com, and purityispossible.com might be valuable resources.

FEBRUARY 17TH - SERVITE SEVEN HOLY FOUNDER’S FEAST DAY
Bonfilius, Bonajuncta, Manettus, Amadeus, Hugh, Sostene, and
Alexis are the names with which were canonized the seven men who, around the middle of the thirteenth
century, founded the Order of Friar Servants
of Saint Mary in Florence.
The Church and the Order venerate them with the title of the Seven Holy Founders.
They were lay men and merchants; some were married,
others single or widowed.
Servites on all continents are celebrating this annual observance
with community prayer and festive social gatherings. As a community, let us join in prayer with our Servite priests and give them our best wishes on this their feast day
Sunday, February 17th.
(above) The Seven Holy Founders prayer card depicts another version of the
seven holy men of the order, surrounding their patroness, Mary, Mother of God.
The Pastoral Services Appeal (PSA) is an annual fundraising appeal of the Orange Catholic Foundation that raises funds on behalf of the Roman Catholic Bishop of Orange that are granted to the Diocese of Orange for financial support of selected diocesan pastoral ministries and services which serve thousands of people throughout Orange County. Each year, the Orange Catholic Foundation (OCF) conducts the annual PSA in collaboration with the Pastors and Administrators from all 62 parishes and centers of the Diocese of Orange.
Your participation helps those whose needs are the greatest – the poor, the vulnerable, and those on the margin of our society. Your gift demonstrates your commitment to Catholic education and the fight of the unborn; it supports those who are ill, imprisoned, and dying; and helps to strengthen struggling families and offers counseling to the grieving and the addicted, enabling thousands of individuals and families throughout the diocese make positive changes to improve their lives.
Your gift means a more vibrant Catholic community in the Diocese of Orange. Your support helps with faith formation and evangelization, Catholic education, formation of seminarians, priests, and deacons, and pastoral and sacramental life in our parishes.

Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel: The Exhibition recreates the awe and wonder of arguably one of mankind’s greatest artistic achievements while allowing its visitors to experience this art from a new perspective.
With special expertise and care, the ceiling paintings from the Sistine Chapel have been reproduced using state of the art technology. In order for the observer to fully engage and comprehend the artwork, the paintings have been reproduced in their original sizes. The overwhelming impression for the observer will be the dimensions of the art, the closeness to the picture, and the modern style of the exhibition. As a result, the visitor can explore the artwork up close at a distance impossible to achieve in the Sistine Chapel.
The introduction and information in the pre-show area of the exhibition will prepare visitors for a new staging of Michelangelo’s works and awaken their curiosity. The exhibition is an innovative and unique interpretation of Michelangelo’s timeless masterpiece. Guests who have already visited the Sistine Chapel will find a new way of observing the art. Visitors who have never seen the originals will be intrigued and inspired to visit the Sistine Chapel at some time in the future.
We invite you to plunge into the universe of Michelangelo.
