The Volcano Eruption

“Mom, look!” Lexi shouted. Her mom looked over. The volcano a few blocks away was shooting fiery lava into the air.

This was not expected. The ground was shaking with great power.

“We must be having a earthquake!” her mom shouted back. Lexi jumped under the table. Her mom jumped down after her. The volcano they lived next to was a composite volcano. “Composite volcanoes have explosive eruptions with a result of more gassy magma.” Lexi stated.

Her mom crawled over to the far closet and grabbed the emergency kit.

She held it and she opened it and took out two masks . Lexi put hers on.

There was no way to get to a phone to call her dad or brother.

“Composite volcanoes are formed by ash and layers of lava.” Her mom mumbled under her mask.

“I thought this volcano was extinct!” Lexi shouted over all the ruckus. Her mom replied; “Well, it wasn’t exactly extinct , it was only dormant.”

“What’s dormant supposed to mean?” Lexi asked. “When something is dormant, it means that it hasn’t erupted in many years, but still has the possibility of erupting.” Her mom answered. Suddenly everything stopped…

Lexi and her mom crawled out from under the table. They looked around. Everything was knocked out of it’s place.

There was some lava in some parts of the kitchen. They quickly got out of the house.

As Lexi was escaping the demolished house, she was thinking about how to stop this from happening again. She found a way.

With knowing that scientists study these things, she decided that she could just evacuate the areas when there’s ever a warning.
