DECEMBER 2019
Notes From the Chief
Rick Mihm
Season Greetings Pontiaddicts!
I can’t believe the holidays are on
us already! I hope you all had a
great Thanksgiving! With
Christmas rounding the turn and
heading down the home stretch, I
hope you all have a Merry, Pontiac
Christmas and a safe Happy New
Year celebration!
For me, the holidays bring a bitter
sweet end to a wonderful, exciting
year as the club’s president. At the
last meeting I announced I was
trying to sell my house and move to
Idaho where my two grandsons are.
As of right now, I have two houses
in escrow, the one I am selling and
the one I’m buying in Idaho. I am
currently in an inspection period
and I am doing my due diligence. I
am 99% sure this deal is going to
happen around the 20th of
December. At that time, I will have
to step down as the club’s
president.
If I may, I would like to reflect on
the great things that happened in
this club this year. First off, I want
to thank our VP, Tom Diot, for
getting me through the first couple
of months. Also with Tom’s
awesome newsletter, along with
two San Diego Pontiac Club
members showcasing their cars on
nationwide television show, Wrench
Wars, put our club back on the
map, which by the way will air on
the 9th of December on MAVTV at 8
PM PST. Second, the club
organized 5 cruises this year; an
Easter Cruise, a cruise to Jim
Wangers, a cruise to the Julian
Mines, a Cops & Rodders Cruise and
finally a cruise to Josie’s Hideout
which all were successful. We also
had a record breaking 17 participants
at our annual Highway Cleanup
where Chaz and I found $20 each.
We had a couple of great turnouts at
STP Restaurant for Pontiac &
Burgers. Thank you Tina and Shane
(just kidding Shannon)!
Furthermore, I witnessed our club
meeting participation go from 10 to
over 20, sometimes almost 30
members. With new members came
a new logo with shirts, hats, and
stickers! A special thanks to Serge
for donating 20 shirts to offer to new
joining members. To conclude, I went
to a lot of car shows and cruise nights
passing out flyers with Bill, Geoff,
and JC in hopes of growing our car
show. I want to thank Stan for
donating a ton of stuff for our car
show goody bags.
Honestly, I felt I ran this club this
year like I was drag racing… pedal to
the metal! I know I still had a lot to
learn, but my goal was to “Make
Pontiac Great Again!” I am sure
going miss everyone. I will continue
to follow the club on Facebook.
Thanks for a great year! Merry
Christmas and have a Happy New
Year.
Rick Mihm,
President

LUNCH WITH JIM WANGERS!
Jim Wangers’ 1965 GTO was bought by Jordan
“Joker” Smith. Jordan did a fully documented
complete restoration on the GTO. Recently,
J.C. Dumas and “Old Man” Jim Taylor had lunch
with Jim Wangers. It was a good day! While we were
there, OM Jim brought out the restoration book
that Jordan Smith made of the GTO for Jim
Wangers to sign. "Joker" has really fixed up the
beautiful GTO documenting it with two binders full
of photos. Jim was delighted to see his “old” car
again!

SDPOCI SHIPS GIFTS TO THE TROOPS!
By Tom Diot
On Veteran’s Day, my Wife and I packed up two “goodie” boxes to send to US
Military Service Members. One box is going to South Korea and the other is
headed for Bahrain. We filled the boxes with all of your generous donations:
Smoke Signals magazines, sunflower seeds, pens, pads greeting cards,
batteries, wipes, Chap Stick, cookies, crackers, toothbrushes, toothpaste,
puzzle books, coffee, candy and more! We shipped them thru the US Post
Office for safe delivery. On November 27th, we received a notice that one of
the packages has been delivered to an agent for final delivery!! When we
receive a communication from the recipients, we will share it with the Club.
Thank you to all the Patriots who donated to this great cause. Please keep
bringing your donations to our monthly meeting as I already have another
Service Member’s address who is deployed on the USS Abraham Lincoln.

The San Diego Chapter of the Pontiac Oakland Club Inter-
national (POCI) was founded in 1989. We are a club dedi-
cated to the preservation and enjoyment of all models of
Pontiacs of all years. We drive ‘em, work on ‘em, polish
‘em, restore ‘em, break ‘em, put ‘em back together again
and have great fun doing it! We are individuals, couples,
and families that enjoy getting together for a variety of ac-
tivities. We host an annual Fall Pow-Wow car show every
summer, and participate as a club in other local and re-
gional shows. We hold annual pool and Christmas parties,
participate in many of the San Diego cruise nights, organ-
ize automotive factory, speed shop and museum tours, and
join in a variety of other events throughout the year. The
cars in the club range from Concourse cars, show cars, daily
drivers, drag racers, and cars undergoing restoration. Our
goal is to have FUN while driving our Pontiacs.
