Jessica & Michaelcaptured by aparat photography

Everything Jessica and Michael planned for their gorgeous vineyard wedding was about creating an amazing experience for guests that reflected their story as a couple. Think edible favours made by the bride and groom, a signature drink and live entertainment, plus a fantastic idea for getting the

party started the night before!

The Planning“It was actually quite stress free. I was in charge of the styling side of things and Michael organised

the transport, accommodation and alcohol. It was fun when everything

was coming together towards the end. The only stressful thing would

have to be the guest list. It just grows and grows!”

The Proposal“Michael proposed in Bali on a

holiday with our two best friends, who also got engaged on the

same trip. I had told him never to propose in Bali, not to propose when our friend did, and not to be cheesy and make a movie - so naturally he did all of those

things!”

The Night Before“We stayed with our bridal party and other good friends the night

before, and had a big BBQ where everyone got to know each other.

This made the wedding night even more fun!”

Finding the Dress“Dresses look so different on the hanger than when they're on, you have to keep an open mind! My last stop was One Day Bridal and Khya, the owner, was so

lovely. I loved the dress she picked out for me to try straight away! People aren't lying when you put on 'The One' - the cherubs totally come down and kiss you on

the cheek and you can see yourself walking down the aisle.”

"Getting a private moment alone in the chapel after

the ceremony was a highlight - to actually realise

we were married - best friends by law!"

Entertaining Guests“While we had our photos, guests had

drinks, cheese and canapés at the dairy. We had a flower station there, where they could make their own hair pieces or button holes. Guests could also use Polaroid cameras to fill our guest book and snap some pictures

to take home.

Baker Boys Band performed throughout the evening and were so much fun - they had

everyone up and dancing before the entrées even came out!

We also organised a keg of our favourite alcoholic ginger beer from a microbrewery

in Canberra - it was a hit with everyone, and brought a bit of us into the wedding.”

Venue Styling“I loved the whole French-eclectic-meets-bohemian-chic look, so I tried to aim for that. Our florist was amazing with creating the ‘flowers and foliage

up to my eyeballs’ look I wanted! Her table garlands, crazy amount of ceremony flowers, bouquets and hanging installation I loved. The venue

also let me choose a mix of vintage candle holders which tied in the look I was hoping for.”

Handmade Projects

“I designed and made all of the stationery, including menus, place cards and favour tags, and kept to the same fonts so that everything matched. We both made the spice mix for the favours, which is an element of a pulled pork feast Michael makes that all of our

friends love.”

Best Advice1. Social media stalking is your

best friend! Look at every possible wedding hashtag on Instagram and find your DIY ideas via Pinterest. Looking at blogs and their vendor

lists was also very helpful.

2. Don't let other people's opinions and ideas make you second guess yourself. It’s your wedding, not

theirs!

3. Remain calm on the big day. It's too late to change anything now anyway! Make sure you enjoy

yourselves as it is a whirlwind of a day, so don't waste your time

worrying.

4. Don't miss out on your food. I've seen that happen when the

couple are pulled aside all night. You've worked hard on creating an amazing wedding, it's time to

feast! Tell your venue or caterer it’s important to you and they’ll make

sure you don’t miss it.

Industrial Chiccaptured by we are origami photography

Textured hardwood floors, light streaming through large windows, aged walls abundant with character...this industrial space both hosts and inspires creativity. Introduce a curated

collection of artful details like trailing tulle, metallic calligraphy and lush florals, and the result is the epitome of

modern, minimalist elegance.

Creating AmbienceThe combined glow of dozens of candles are used to great effect against the dark features of the warehouse, creating warmth, drama and intimacy. A two tiered fondant cake sits well with the theme - with its clean lines and marbled tier, sugar flower and calligraphy detail, displayed to perfection upon a metal legged stand with sheer fabrics capturing the light.

"When I follow my heart, it leads me to you."

Grand EntranceTimeless gowns are paired with intricate hairpieces and gauzy veils in perfect

contrast to the space. Each bride carries a stunning bouquet to suit her style - one a textured arrangement with soft white flowers, mixed greenery and berries; the other a rich mix of anemones, crimson roses and deep pink tulips. The beauty of industrial chic lies in its simply furnished, uncluttered spaces, keeping the focus

on you and each elegant detail of your day.

Rise and Shinetips for a beautiful wedding morning

Those first few hours of your wedding day can turn from fabulous to frazzled in a hot second! Here are ten ways to get off to a great start so you

and your girls stay relaxed and ready to party.

Morning buzzHaving some normal on this special day is a great way to settle the nerves, and a quick coffee run might just be the

answer!

Just breathe It’s not uncommon to feel

all kinds of butterflies in the lead up to your walk down

the aisle! Centre yourself and enjoy some time out with an early morning yoga or

meditation session.

Backing track Create a playlist for your morning that

reminds you of the fun times you’ve shared and gets you pumped for the

day ahead.

Pure indulgenceFor a truly personalised pamper session, book

hair and makeup artists that can come to you.

This also saves you the stress of dashing between

appointments!

StaycationBook accommodation to enjoy together the night before. It’s the perfect

excuse for a slumber party, makes morning prep so

much easier and serves as a great backdrop for your

getting ready photos!

Cheers to thatThere’s no better way to kick off the celebrations than with

a pop, fizz and clink! Consider planning a mimosa bar filled

with chilled juices and champagne.

Helping handsFinally, leave the last minute

logistics to an on the day coordinator so you and your

loved ones can stay focused on all the good stuff!

Picture perfectYour hair, makeup and flowers

will all be at their best first thing in the morning, so plan time for some professional

photos with your bridal party before the ceremony.

Wrapped upIf you’ve organised any gifts,

think about when to give them, whether it’s something

to wake up to or presented when everyone is dressed

and ready.

Eat wellEven though you may not feel like eating, the last thing you’ll want to think about during your ceremony is a rumbling

stomach! A platter featuring light and easy-

to-eat snacks like yoghurt, fruit and finger sandwiches

is a great option.

up with Emma Sinclair from Coco & Confetti for all the details on this bright bohemian setting and tips for creating your own special event.

styled spacePlan to make your setting as

comfortable as it is beautiful - the day is all about lounging in luxury! “We started from the ground up, placing

down boho-themed rugs and building in comfort and opulence with scatter

cushions, Moroccan poufs and throws.

A timber trestle was kept low and set with tableware in layers of texture.

The decor was rounded out with a hand-dyed table runner, golden

lotus pods, agate place cards, brass candlesticks and vessels for vibrant

floral arrangements.”

weather conditions. “For this setting, we had a cottage verandah in the event of rain or could use the shade of bamboo for full sun. And don’t forget the

bug spray and sunscreen!”

Emma & Davidcaptured by holly prins photography

A stunning fusion of rustic charm and boho glamour, Emma and David’s wedding features plenty of details to pour over and meaningful moments at its heart. A lantern lit reception, wildly beautiful florals and handmade touches seal the deal - and who would've thought a packet mix wedding

cake could look this good!

The Planning Experience

“Planning events is my forte. I really enjoy being creative and

producing something that is truly special and unique. I wanted to

create a day that was timeless and had both our styles intertwined, so we can look back years from now

and hopefully not regret anything!”

Finding the Dress“I knew that I wanted something

very simple and came across a Nicole Miller dress online at

BHLDN. It wasn't fancy, but that’s what I loved about it.

When I tried it on I felt like it needed something, so I decided

to add sleeves that draped off my shoulders. It really made the dress feel more special and added a boho

element to it.”

Favourite Moment“My favourite moment was when my twin sister walked me down the aisle. As I never knew my father and our mother passed away

when we were 15, it was a no-brainer to ask Felicity. My other half was giving me away to my new other half! I remember her saying to me softly as we approached the aisle, 'Mum is here with you'. It was

a very special moment and something I will always cherish.”

"Remember to have fun. Soak it all up and try not to be overwhelmed - it's an exciting process from start to finish. If you have fun with it, you'll only have

the best of memories."

Styling Concept“The vision in mind for our wedding was to keep it elegant and have one striking feature. For us, bold coloured flowers really helped create quite a whimsical and breathtaking wedding. As the venue was already rustic, there was no need to add any more rustic elements, so we tried to keep the decorations classic and glamorous.”

Reception Decor“We decided to have our guests sit along three communal tables - not only did

it look beautiful, it felt more personal and intimate. Adding in gold accents, silk table runners and fairy lights helped create a magical setting. As I had a few DIY pieces, there were some late nights and lots of crafternoons with the girls! It was

really a great juxtaposition between rustic and glamour.”

Top Tips1. Hire an event coordinator! The last thing you want to be doing is

stressing and setting up on the day. Pay someone to do it for you so you can relax and spend time on things that are more important.

2. Always remember the reason why you are having the wedding.

Throughout my planning, I sat back and remembered the day I

saw David on his knee asking me to marry him and I couldn't wait to see him at the end of the aisle. You

truly forget anyone else is in the room and that’s what it’s all about.

Meaningful MusicProcessional: “‘A Thousand Years’ by The Piano Guys - there was not

one dry eye in the room.”

Signing: “The Jurassic Park theme song - an intense and beautiful

piece of music and for us, a little bit nerdy and fun.”

Recessional: “‘Sky Full of Stars’ by Coldplay - this set the tone for the rest of the day with its upbeat

tune, and the band filmed their video where David and I first met!”

Choosing your reception music, a picture perfect confetti toss, personalising your ceremony and wow factor florals are the hot topics this issue. Got a question for our experts? Share it with us

on Facebook or Instagram!

your questions- answered -

What are your best tips for choosing music for our

wedding reception?

- Catriona Gosnold -baker boys band

If you’re planning music for the dance floor, remember that you want to get everyone involved. Pick songs that instantly bring a spring to your step and make you feel like dancing straight away. There are plenty of classics that deserve their place on

the dance floor!

If there’s a favourite song that you have to have that’s a little slower, include it for a chilled out time of the night, like during pre-dinner

drinks or dinner.

- Josephine Ison -event entertainers

If you've booked entertainers, ask them for their recommendations of what they play well, or what

they know works best for special moments. A good quality band or DJ will ask you what your

tastes are, and want to know what demographic will be attending the wedding. They’ll be able to help curate a playlist or selection of

songs with those in mind.

We're looking to have a confetti toss – what do we need to think about to get some great photos of it?

- Sophie Baker -sophie baker photography

Have more confetti than you think you'll need! And have guests come

as close to the aisle as possible when tossing it. Have it tossed up and

over, not directly at you, and enjoy the experience of being showered!

- Adam Kriedemann -raconteur photography

Rose petals give an awesome look too, particularly for your group

photo. It makes the traditional cheer actually fun!

- Peggy Saas -peggy saas photography

Make sure all your guests are involved in the toss - not standing

in front of you with phones in hand. Ask the celebrant to mention this prior. Also don't squint and cower,

keep your head up, and enjoy!

- Leah Ladson -leah ladson photography

Use coloured confetti rather than lavender or bird seed. And have your

celebrant ask guests not to throw from too close so it floats down!

- Amy Verduyn -bella in bloom

Use colour! Bright colours can make such a fantastic visual impact and

are not used enough. Also consider mismatched centrepieces for your tables - some tall and elaborate,

some short and simple. It gives such a lovely rhythm to a room with lots

of places to look.

- Julia Rose -flowers by julia rose

For the budget conscious bride - put as much money as you can into your bouquet as it will be in those ‘hero’ images that you’ll share with your

children and grandchildren for years to come.

If budget is not an issue - wonderful and wild floral installations! Think big, over-the-top vases billowing

with flowers and greenery and suspended fresh florals behind the

bridal couple. You are who everyone came to see, so most of the photos

will be taken in that direction!

What’s the best way to make an impact with

florals at my wedding?

- Georgia Mills -marriage celebrant

I always love getting your family and friends involved - they are the

ones who know your story and have seen you grow and change together.

Perhaps they could write a few words about how excited you were

after your first date or proposal, which the celebrant reads out or

they share themselves.

I have also had couples share with me some of the things they love about each other - a nice mix of sweet, sentimental, silly and fun. We have these printed onto cards, popped in envelopes and given to

family and friends to read during the ceremony. It's a lovely surprise for everyone and not as daunting as a

longer reading.

Asking the most recently married couple and the longest married couple for their tips for a happy and successful marriage is also a gorgeous option - get the tissues ready though as people share the most incredible things, and they

LOVE being asked to participate!

What are some different ways we can personalise

our ceremony?

Erin +John

You know you've found ‘The One’ when it's a dress you can't help but dance in! This was certainly the case for Erin, who planned a sunflower-inspired wedding with John filled with vivid colour and even brighter personality. With a vintage

boho feel, this pretty garden celebration perfectly combines fun handmade projects with gorgeous details from their team of talented suppliers.

captured by kat stanley photography

The Dress “I knew I didn’t want the

traditional strapless princess dress and that I really liked the boho vintage look. My dress is a sort of kaftan shape, which is a style that I love. It also has a 1920’s

vibe, which is my favourite era. I couldn’t stop thinking about it, so I

knew I had found ‘The One’.”

To complete her look, Erin chose a 20’s inspired, beaded lace hairpiece

embellished with Swarovski crystals.

The Planning“I loved researching for hours on Pinterest, finding things we loved

and using our creativity to see how we could put our own spin on

things.”

The Proposal“We went on a three month

European adventure and on our last day in Paris, John asked me to marry him under the Eiffel Tower.”

The CeremonyRustic signage marked the entrance to the ceremony space, which was framed by an arch laden with white florals and lush greenery. Parasols provided some welcome shade and

a touch of old world charm.

Made with LoveErin and John included many

handcrafted details in their day which added to the bohemian vintage feel, “As well all the

signage, we made the reception seating chart, menus and

bonbonnieres. We also bought handmade items from Etsy,

including our fairytale guest book, ring box and cake topper.”

Entertaining GuestsNo gorgeous garden party is

complete without plenty of relaxed entertainment! “We had picnic

blankets, oversized garden games, a glow stick bar, photo booth, ceilidh

dancing and a DJ.”

" We didn’t want to do things just because people said it was tradition, and made sure that if we did something, it was because it suited us. We just wanted to have fun!"

The ReceptionSet in a chandelier-filled marquee, guests are greeted by an incredible flower and lantern display, distressed wood table filled with charming tea sets, and ‘Sweet as Honey’ favour station.

Best Advice“Don’t do anything just because someone says you have to; make sure your

wedding is a true reflection of the two of you; and take the time to add personal touches, because sometimes the little things make a huge difference!”

Choosing the right shoes for your wedding can be the difference between wearing a mega-watt smile or smiling through pain on your big day! We asked wedding shoe designer Veronyca Kwan from Bella

Belle Shoes to give us the lowdown on what you need to know to not only look gorgeous, but ensure your feet

will still love you at the end of the day.

The Perfect Pair

Location, location That grassy field, country lane or cobbled courtyard may have won your heart in your venue search, but keep them in mind when choosing your footwear,

“You’ll be on your feet all day and evening - for the outdoors, flats or wedges are best so you don't sink into the grass during your

walk down the aisle.” And if you love your heels? There's no harm in switching between your dream shoes and something a little more

comfortable to suit your plans!

Made to match Your wedding theme or dress style also comes into play, “If

your theme is black tie, a pair of glamorous high heels will look fabulous! Lace shoes are lovely paired with an elegant look and

a tea length dress highlights your shoes more than other styles.” And if you’re looking for an

alternative for additional height? “Wedges provide this without

sacrificing comfort.”

Stylish comfort As well as your theme and the look of your gown, personal preferences around what you are comfortable with is most

important. Now’s not the time to test your six inch heel skills if it’s not your usual style! “Comfort is important, so ask about the construction. Is there enough padding? Is the leather breathable

and stretchable? Look for a manageable heel height and generously padded footbed.” And whatever style you choose,

“Make sure to walk around the house in your shoes prior to your special day.”

Decision timeIt turns out, buying your wedding shoes is not much different to buying your wedding dress! “Ask yourself, does it fit your style, gown, venue and budget? Ask how to care for them and most importantly, find out about their return and exchange policies. You want to make sure you’re not stuck with shoes that are

uncomfortable or do not work for your vision.”

If you make your choice based not only on look but how they make you feel, you’ll go into your day confident, comfortable and looking amazing!

Emma and Michael

Wanting a backyard feel, Emma and Michael worked together to plan a simple-but-stylish burgundy and navy wedding - one where ‘The Suit’ was just as important as ‘The Dress’! From the sensational marquee styling, to the oyster and whiskey bars and banquet style feasting, their day is filled with great ideas for a relaxed celebration enjoyed with those you love.

captured by life photography

The Planning“I plan people’s lives for a living, so I knew I would thrive on planning a wedding. To be honest it was quite full on - enjoyable but harder than I expected. Michael was heavily involved with the big ticket items like the venue, accommodation, suits, invites and cake, and stayed out of the finer details, which suited me fine! It’s the little details that I love.”

The Ceremony“We kept our ceremony styling simple as the

beautiful tree we were married under really said it all. I found some hanging lanterns

in Bali to use as a feature, which our florist draped in some of our stunning blooms.”

The Dress“Looking at a range of boutiques and stalking a few dresses on Instagram helped me work out the style that suited me best. Brides By Design had a dress in store that was a similar shape, so we nutted out a few changes, deliberated over some gorgeous laces and they started on creating my dream dress. It was so comfortable and really was a showstopper on the day!”

The Suit“Michael and I went shopping for suits before getting the groomsmen

involved. Politix styled him from head to toe and he loved it! He chose a polka dot waistcoat as he wanted to remain stylish when he took his jacket off

later in the night. He paired it with a crisp white shirt, blazer and trousers in French navy, and chestnut coloured shoes and belt.”

Bridesmaid Style

“I hunted for months with my maids to find the perfect dresses. Once I had settled

on the colour and after many phone calls, I found

them in different styles and sizes. They all loved

them and looked absolutely radiant on the day.”

Special Details“There were two things we really wanted at our wedding - an oyster

shucker and a whiskey trolley - and what a hit both were! Our cake was also handmade by Michael’s nanna

and surrounded by a chocolate buffet - the simple dessert that we

pictured.”

The PlaylistProcessional: “Brayden Sibbald

played ‘You Make It Real For Me’ by James Morrison on acoustic guitar. It really took us back to

when we first met.”

First dance: “We are big lovers of Van Morrison so ‘Crazy Love’ just seemed fitting as one of our

ultimate favourites.”

Crowd pleaser: “We couldn’t leave out the classic ‘Horses’ by Darryl Braithwaite. Our guests formed a large circle around us while

we danced in the middle. A great memory of our night!”

The Reception“It was important that our guests were able to interact, so we chose to have

four long tables with our bridal table at one end and dance floor at the other. We decided to use the venue's marquee as

it's a beauty in itself!

We couldn’t hang flowers, so our florist recommended raised arrangements. The effect was amazing and they created the perfect space for food to be placed down

the middle of the tables.

Adding beautiful handmade brown sugar and fig candles also created the most amazing smell within the marquee.”

Top Tips1. Have faith that all of your

efforts will be worth it. Don’t let the long list of ‘to dos’ and stress of planning get the better of you - trusting my suppliers was the key!

2. When the day finally arrives, savour every moment. I tried my best to do that on the day - from waking up next to my besties in the morning, to walking out of the wedding venue as a married

woman.

3. Prioritize. We wanted the whole day to be a huge celebration! We

wanted people to walk out saying, ‘Wow, that was so much fun!’ and

I hope our guests agree that we accomplished it. Choose the things

that are really important to you, ours was the food and the music,
