Stewardship – A way of Life October 8, 2017 - 27th Sunday in Ordinary Time “The stone the builders rejected has become the corner stone…” - MATTHEW 21:42 Jesus was the corner stone and He was rejected by the reli-gious and political leaders of his day, as well as ordinary citizens. Living a stewardship lifestyle may cause you to be “rejected” by others in today’s society. For example, saying grace before a meal in a restaurant may attract some strange looks from some. But to others it is sign that God is alive and well! Be a positive sign to others. From The Stewardship Commission

OCTOBER 8 2017
Fire Safety Week Each October, the Greensburg Fire Department makes a visit to St. Mary’s School. This visit is planned to coincide with the national observance of Fire Safety Week. Several members of the Fire Department spend the day teaching and talking to the students about fire safety and prevention. The younger students in Kindergarten through Grade 2 make a visit to the Smoke House. This is a “tiny house” on wheels, which consists of two rooms designed to resemble a kitchen and a bedroom. Each class has a scheduled time to visit the Smoke House, where they are divided into three groups. These groups rotate among each of the two rooms and the outside “lawn.” In the kitchen area, a firefighter reviews safety lessons about hot pans and stoves and other kitchen concerns. In the bedroom area, the students practice rolling out of a bed and crawling under “artificial” smoke. The students crawl to a window and exit the room via the window with the help of the firefighters. In the meantime, the outside group of students learns about calling “911” in an emergency, having their family designate a “safe meeting place” outside of the house, and checking the smoke alarms in the house.
The firefighters eat lunch with the students, and then present a puppet show to the third and fourth graders. The puppet show also reviews fire safety and prevention.
The firefighters always do a fantastic job, and the students love to visit with them. We wish to thank the Greensburg Fire Department for giving their time to help our student learn how to be safe and to make good decisions. You are our heroes!
