News from the Sixth Grade

Last November, the sixth-grade class chose a

specific saint to study.

The students spent the

next few weeks

gathering background

research about their

saints. This research

included information

about their saint’s

childhood, religious

formation, holy works,

patron saint day, feast

day, prayer, personal

connections, virtues,

spiritual gifts and

lessons that can be

learned from the saint’s life.

This exploration was transformed into the creation

of a research paper in Mrs. Fisher’s class. The kids

learned how to take notes from sources, how to

either quote or paraphrase what the writer said and

add their own insights.

After their research and writing, the students

worked on a metal art piece in Mrs. Beede’s class.

The students were asked to create a visual replica

of their saint by pounding an image into copper

metal.

The final component of this project was to prepare

a video that shared the students’ research in

another artistic form. The kids had fun learning

about voice-overs, downloading pictures, and

putting themselves into the director’s chair.

You can find this project in the window case in the

cafeteria. If you have a smartphone or iPhone,

simply place the camera on the bar code and a link

will appear. Click on the link to view the videos.

Enjoy the work of the sixth grade.

Third Sunday of Lent Time - Year B During this week, please take time to pre-read the Readings for next

Sunday’s Mass from your Bible. This will aid in giving a deeper dimension

and understanding to what we hear proclaimed in the readings. Reading I: Exodus 20: 1-17 (The law was given through Moses.) Responsorial Psalm: 19: 8, 9, 10, 11 (Lord, you have the words of everlasting life.) Reading II: 1 Corinthians 1:22-25 (We proclaim Christ crucified, a stumbling block to many, but to those who are called, the wisdom of God.) Gospel: John 2: 13-25 (Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.) PLEASE NOTE: You can get the complete text of readings for any day of the year at www.usccb.org

St. Vincent de Paul - St. Rose Conference

February 25, 2018 Second Sunday of Lent - Year B

Lent is a call not just to “give up something” but more

important to “give something for the poor.” Wherever you live in

the parish, there are poor families within walking distance of your

home. When in need, they ring the rectory bell. They are, in effect,

ringing your doorbell.

This month, through your gifts, the Society of St.

Vincent dePaul was able to assist families, by providing food,

funds for utility, rent and other bills. God Bless You!

******************

If you know of a neighbor or friend needing food assistance, please refer them to SVDP at 503.235.8431 for help! ******************

We would like to invite you to participate in a Ministries meeting to be held in the cafeteria following Saturday morning mass on March 10th. Discussion to include: * Supporting the mission of St. Rose * Opportunity to provide feedback / suggestions – tell us how it is going * Overview and organization of St. Rose ministries (brief intro by ministry leaders) * Growing your ministry * Archdiocesan resources Coffee and a continental breakfast will be served.

24 Hour Adoration: Friday, March 2 through Saturday

March 3rd Signups will be in the back of church on the counter.

St. Rose parish is looking for a part-time bookkeeper to join us.

This position will provide bookkeeping and perform other related

financial or administrative support to the parish. Please submit your

resume to the parish office at [email protected]

All youth from third grade through high school are invited to

participate in Super Sunday this evening. Come to the cafeteria at

4:30 PM. Children 1st grade and up are welcome to join the Folk Group this Sunday, February 25 to help out with our monthly Youth Mass. We will gather in the Resource Room at 9:15 prior to mass to practice – (push the button by the back door of school to be let in.) If your child is unable to make this, please meet us on the altar. Please let me know if your child is interested so I can plan accordingly. I look forward to sharing their beautiful voices with our church community!

Fr. Matt will be available for additional Confession Times, on

Friday mornings during Lent in the confessional, immediately

following daily Mass, for as long as he can stay.
