It’s Back to School!By now, most returning to school have

already completed their shopping. But notme. Now is the time for scouring the clear-ance isles and taking advantage of all thosediscounts. By the time the year is over, mystash is usually depleted.

The crayons, markers, and shaped erasersalways make great stocking stuffers atChristmas time as well. According to a Back-to-School Shopping study I read, at least 50%of parents feel the stress of getting their kidsback to the classroom. Shopping for clothes, supplies and school luncheables were listed at thetop of the list. More than 80% look for bargains anduse coupons.

So when the pocketbook and credit cards feelthe stress of back-to-school preparations, it’s timeto look for a weekend getaway that offers free orless expensive activities. Ohio still abounds withharvest festivals, local street celebrations andmany events which offer free entertainment thewhole family will enjoy. The next few pages arefilled with ideas for places to go and things to dothroughout September.

A family movie at home with popcorn and bev-erages was voted #1 among our survey as aninexpensive way to spend a weekend evening. Italso helps settle the kids down and helps adjustto an earlier bedtime schedule. A trip to thelibrary and a family board game night were alsolisted.

If you are looking for a Fall craft to start or anew project to make for a home decoration orperhaps even a Christmas gift for someone spe-cial, now is the time to think about getting thesupplies. The holidays are just around the corner.Next month will be filled with Halloween partyideas and “Haunted Happenings” Then comesrecipes and decorating tips for Thanksgiving. And before you know it, (and before I’m close tobeing ready) Christmas time will be upon us. Sostay tuned... There’s LOTS of exciting things inthe planning stages at The Weekender !
