Much of his music is of the sacred genre, and the Sanctus sung this morning is taken from his Estonian Mass, op. 36. It was performed at the 2004 Estonian Song Celebration (a music festival held in Tallin every 5 years), with a mass choir numbering close to 20,000 singers. It undoubtedly shows the beauty and strength of a country once under Communist rule, now an independent nation, and what the power that music can have worldwide.

    Caring Meals Ministry

One of the most tangible gifts we can give someone is a warm meal that they didn't have to make during a time of need.

Our congregation offers meals to families after they've had a baby, or to people going through a difficult time from a loss, or recuperating from surgery. We could use more people to pool from in these times of need. If you would like to be on this Caring Meals mailing list and be notified when there is a need, please let Amy Knauff know: [email protected] (or sign up in the east hallway). You will not be scheduled to make a meal for someone. You will only be on an email list that notifies you when a schedule is available.

October 2019 As you do it for the least of these, you do it for Christ. (Matthew 25:40)

The focus for the month of October is to provide volunteer time and monetary support for Lutheran World Relief www.lwr.org and Church World Service (CROP Hunger) program www.churchworldservice.org. Lutheran World Relief is affirming God’s love for all people, working with Lutherans and partners around the world to end poverty, injustice and human suffering. LWR vision is to be empowered by God’s unconditional love in Jesus Christ, envisioning a world in which each person, every community and all generations live in

justice, dignity and peace. Also, look for LWR volunteer opportunities in October: soap contributions (Soapy Sunday, Oct. 20), quilt making, and annual truckload collection day (Sat., Oct. 26th).

Church World Service and Lutheran World Relief work together. CWS and CROP have one goal: building a world where there is enough for all. After seven decades moving towards this goal, CWS has the faith and experience to know it’s possible. Working around the world, they have seen gardens flourishing in barren land. Migrants and refugees finding home even after every door has been closed. Houses standing strong against nature’s worst disasters. That’s the power of compassion at work when it links to human resilience.
