We’ve had BBQs, oungs with Dial-a-Ride and many, many lovely days outside just enjoying the hot weather, drinks and ice-creams. Although autumn has now arrived, we’ve been lucky enough to have had several more sunny and warmish days when our residents went outside, either to sit or go for a walk. However, I think we’ll be staying snuggled inside soon, as the Meteorological Office are saying “BE PREPARED, cold weather’s on its way!.

Our Dial-a-Ride trips over the past three months have included a wonderful trip to Leominster to visit the Priory Church. This was a fabulous trip. As you can see from the photos, there is a wonderful stained-glass window and the beautiful tapestry was on show for a limited time only. Afterwards the residents were treated

Welcome to our Autumn Newsletter

to a lovely gourmet meal at The Dukes Head. A special thank-you to Kelly, Sam and Alana for helping us with our wheelchair residents.

There were also two shopping trips – one to Sainsburys, where purchases were made by residents. It’s really great for our residents, as they love to prepare their shopping lists

for the trip. They also enjoy the coffee and cake afterwards. Our second shopping trip was to Asda, where once again residents had their own shopping lists. It’s a real treat for them going up and down the aisles looking for things they have on their lists – it really brings back memories for them.

Another of our trips was to Rita (our Care Manager’s) house, where she and hubby John served tea and coffee and lovely, lovely cakes. As you can see, the sun shone and residents spent lots of time relaxing in the garden. Archie (Rita’s dog) and Henry (one of her cats) also took advantage of the sun and the fuss they received from their visitors. This trip was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Musical entertainment has once again included our favourites – Christine and Gareth, who have been three times.

Christine is so loved by our residents as she really interacts with them.

Birthdays are great, as she will sit with the resident and serenade them, even outside.

Also Banjo Brian, who donates to the British Heart Foundation, and Mansel and Lyndon were booked too.

We also had two new entertainers – one was called The Hospice Angel, whose name was Mike. He’s a fundraiser for St. Michael’s Hospice. Over a number of years he’s raised thousands of pounds for this charity and this is what he talked about on his visit here. He also ran a film-show of one of his fundraising trips from Hereford to Worcester. It was a fun film-show and our residents enjoyed it.

Our second new entertainer was Jackie. She ran a reminiscing session. This first session with her was based on the seaside. She was a real success and the residents loved it. It brought back lots of memories. To finish her session she got the residents to paint beach pebbles (which she brought along).

This was really good fun. We look forward to seeing Jackie again in January with a new theme.

Lea from G. Fitness has visited three times and the residents enjoy her armchair exercises. Lea will be back in the New Year. She’s at present enjoying a lifetime trip to Asia.

Our weekly and monthly Holy Communion services are very well attended by our residents. We once again had our Harvest Festival Service and would like to thank Canon Maureen for holding this service. Also a big thank-you to Revd. Rana and Revd. Angie for all the other services held.

Our last event for this Newsletter was our Halloween Supper. We don’t go over the top with Halloween, as it can be a little spooky, but we had a Halloween Supper with Halloween cupcakes and chocolates, with our little pumpkin friends on the tables, as you can see from the photos.

Birthdays have been celebrated by Kath, Rosemary, Sally, Donald, Margaret, Doug, Rita (our Care Manager) and Mr. Kingham – the boss.

Lots of lovely cakes were made by our three lovely Chefs – Sue, Alison and Leo. Thank-you ladies for all the wonderful food you put on our tables – first-class and really, really tasty.

THANK-YOUs

Thank-you Carol for all the lovely strawberries you once again gave to all the staff here – it was such a treat for us.

Very many thanks also to John Junior and his wife, Yvonne, who thoughtfully donated a lovely bag of knitting wool.

Thank-you also to Sheila for your hairdressing every Wednesday and to Brian, our chiropodist.

STAFF NEWS

Congratulations to Ali, one of our Senior Nursing Care Assistants, and her husband Petrisor on the birth of their son Dominic. We all look forward to meeting him.

Our muscle-men, Andrei and Andrei, will be holding a strong-man competition once their outfits arrive – we’ll announce the date and venue. The girls can’t wait.

Our Christmas Fayre is being held on Saturday 1st December from 2pm to 4pm. One of the stalls will be a tombola and donations for this would be much appreciated – please see either Teresa or Sandra with your donations at any time, preferably before the event. Please, please come along and support us on the day too, as all the proceeds will go to our Residents’ Fund.

CHRISTMAS RAFFLE

We’ll also be holding a Christmas Raffle, which will be drawn on Thursday 20th December in the afternoon. Tickets can now be purchased from the front hall at £1 per ticket. Again, any donations of raffle prizes will be most appreciated and as before, please see either Teresa or Sandra with these at any time and again, well in advance of the Raffle would be marvellous. All proceeds again will be for our Residents’ Fund.

Lastly, thank-you to all the staff for the dedication you show The Weir. It’s greatly appreciated by all. Keep up the great work.

Well folks, that’s all for now. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if there’s anything else we can do for you. Take care from me! And her! Be careful out there.
