What is the welfare state ?

T.H. Marshall defines welfare state as a special combination of the democracy, the social welfare and the capitalism.

Purpose of the welfare state

The control of the poverty:- To allow the social integration of the excluded.

The economic safety:- Keep a standard of life.

The redistribution of the revenue: - To modify the way of the income distribution.

The importance of the family in the welfare state The basic structure of a society is the marriage. The

family is like an economic institution. This institution guarantees the welfare state.

Becker (economist) theory: When it considers to have children, the parents do a valuation of the consequences in the future: If the expenses are major that the income the children will be an investment, on the contrary they will be a good of consum.
