    SIXTY-SECOND CONFERENCE PROGRAM NOVEMBER 16-17, 2017

THE GREENBRIER RESORT WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, WEST VIRGINIA

AWELCOME TO THE 62nd WVRA CONFERENCE

Reading In All Directions Dear Conferees,

Welcome to the 62nd WVRA Conference. As our world changes, the needs of our students change. Students need navigational points to keep them on the path to complete a task and then use the points to assist in moving onto other tasks. The Reading in ALL Directions logo uses a book to assist each on our many paths. The navigational directional points remind each learner of the many opportunities to learn, improve and achieve.

During the Conference you will find new ways to deliver information, celebrate successes of students and colleagues and gather ideas for helping learners along the way.

Enjoy our keynote speakers, presenters and authors during the conference.

Students from around the state will be featured Friday with a Literature Fair.

    Mark Weakland

As teachers and administrators, we build the literacy roads that students travel. Their ultimate destinations are successful reading, writing and thinking. But some roads are safer, sturdier and more direct than others. Literacy coach and author Mark Weakland identifies five fundamental highways of literacy instruction, points out the smooth pavement and large potholes found in basal reading programs and asks the audience to travel a well known country road. He has authored, Super Core, Super Speller, and When Walt Disney Rode a Pig.
