Our Mission: Based on the teachings of Christ and the Catholic Church, in partnership with the family and parish community, Mater

Dei Catholic School will provide each child the opportunity to reach their potential and to develop the academic, technological and social skills necessary to become lifelong learners who serve God in our community and the world.

The Whale - A Beautiful and Inspirational Tale

A female humpback whale had become entangled in a spider web of crab traps and lines. She was weighted down by hundreds of pounds of traps that caused her to struggle to stay afloat. She also had hundreds of yards of line rope wrapped around her body, her tail, her torso, a line tugging in her mouth.

A fisherman spotted her just east of the Farallon Islands (off the coast of San Francisco, California) and radioed for help. Within a few hours, the rescue team arrived and determined that she was so badly off, the only way to save her was to dive in and untangle her. A very dangerous proposition as one slap of the tail could kill a prospective rescuer.

They worked for hours with curved knives and eventually freed her.

When she was free, the divers say she swam in what seemed like joyous circles. She then came back to each and every diver, one at a time, nudged them, and pushed gently, thanking them. Some said it was the most incredibly beautiful experience of their lives.

The man who cut the rope out of her mouth says her eye was following him the whole time, and he will never be the same.

May you and all those you love, be so fortunate as to be surrounded by people who will help you get untan-

gled from the things that are binding you and may you always know the joy of giving and receiving gratitude.

What has you tangled up - social media, television, food, other distractions from giving others our time and en-

ergy?

“Christ is the reason for this school. He is the unseen but ever present teacher in its classes. He is the model of its faculty and the inspiration of its students.”

Kansas State Assessments

for

Mater Dei Catholic School

Start Date: April 2, 2019

Ending Date: April 26, 2019

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Here are a few tips to make the next few weeks easier for you and your student during testing weeks:

Keep a positive attitude about the Kansas State Assessment Tests.

Mark down test days on your calendar so you and your child are both aware of testing dates.

Make sure that your child gets enough sleep on the night before the test.

Ensure that your child eats a healthy breakfast and avoid heavy foods that may make him/her groggy and avoid high

sugar foods that may cause sugar spike/drop.

Make sure that your child gets up early enough so that he/she will be on time to school.

Please try to schedule appointments on non-testing days.

If your child is sick please call the school immediately.
