Sunday, July 17, 4:00PM: A Concert for the Earth – at the Reversing Falls Sanctuary. A second teaming up of Timbered Lake and Paul Weiss in a concert of prophetic celebration, grief and praise. Suggested donation: $10-15

Listening to the earth awakens our primary belonging. Just as our capacity forattunement to people gets wired into us with the earliest connection to the eyes of the mother, our capacity for attunement to the land gets wired in the first time we truly open to her and feel her eyes on us.”

Wednesday to Sunday, August 31 to September 4: The Earth Solo Experience – a Guided Experience of Solitude and Fasting in the Lap of the Earth – with Joseph Rubano.

We are always happy to offer this rare opportunity to sit alone on the earth in our own raw confrontation with self and with the natural elements. There is a long tradition of individuals going off to be alone in the wilderness to pray and fast, and to open humbly to messages and insight from the creative source. The guiding wisdom of our life is available to each of us if we are willing to pause and take an honest look inside. And when we get still and quiet enough – and exchange the energy field of the cultural buzz for the energy field of our naked relation- ship to the earth – it is possible to see and hear something new – to get a hint of a possible direction, to access hidden strength and courage, to awaken and reclaim forgotten pieces of ourselves. Then whatever is revealed, whatever impulse for action is received, may be offered back in service to the People, in service to Life. The Earth Solo Experience, as facilitated byJoseph Rubano, is connected to that tradition.

Many of us have imagined such an experience, but few of us will undertake it alone. That is why a group ceremonial occasion can be a gift. The ceremonial setting within community helps us to remember that we are not just undertaking it for ourselves, but also as an offering to something beyond ourselves. And, as the central firekeepers keep the fires going day and night in remembrance of each of our solitary journeys – we may also understand that we are not in it alone, but that that same something is supporting us and opening our way.

We will be sending out more information about the Earth Solo Experience. But if this sparks any interest in you, or if you have any questions, please get in touch right away. So as to not keep people hanging, we will only hold this program this year if we get enough confirmed registrations by the third week of July!

And now appointments are available with Dr. Meryl Nass on most Friday afternoons at The Whole Health Center. A press release describing Meryl's work may be seen below as Addendum 2 to this program schedule.

For further program information, or to register for programs, please call The Whole Health Center at (207)288-4128, or email [email protected] Dr.Nass may be reached directly for scheduling at (207)412-0040. See addenda below.

Meryl Nass, M.D. To Offer Consults at Whole Health Center

Dr. Meryl Nass, an internal medicine physician who retired from her practice at Mount Desert Island Hospital several years ago, will now be available to offer free medical consultations at The Whole Health Center in Bar Harbor, according to Whole Health Center Director Paul Weiss. Dr. Nass, who has practiced in Maine since 1997, and at MDI Hospital from 2003-2012, has had a distinguished career in which her special areas of expertise have led to invitations to consult with such bodies as The World Bank and the Director of National Intelligence, and to testify before the U.S. Congress regarding anthrax vaccine, bioterrorism and Gulf War Syndrome.

Dr. Nass has made it a point in her long practice to address some of medicine's more controversial and difficult to manage conditions, such as Lyme disease, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, and chemical sensitivities. She has a holistic perspective that includes nutritional supplementation, dietary adjustment, and non-narcotic approaches to treating pain.

Dr. Nass currently volunteers as a physician at the Ellsworth Free Medical Clinic one day a week. But whereas the free clinic only sees people based on financial need, Dr. Nass wishes to make her long experience and expertise available as a free service to anyone having difficulty understanding or managing a challenging medical condition. Patients may choose to make donations to the non-profit Whole Health Center.

Dr. Nass' services at The Whole Health Center are purely consultative, Weiss explains. She will not prescribe medication nor maintain “on-call” backup outside her counseling time. She will not replace a patient's need for a primary care physician, but will offer information and support. Her services are in keeping with the statement of purpose of The Whole Health Center which was founded in 1981 to offer physical and mental health counseling, as well as education in holistic and alternative approaches to personal health and well-being. The Center may be reached at 288-4128. Those wishing to make appointments with Dr. Nass may schedule with her directly at 412-0040.
