Windellama P & C

Do we need local after school care?

Windellama Public School P&C is investigating the feasibility of running an after school care program in 2012. The program would be run on Windellama Public School grounds and we believe it would probably be required to operate from 3pm to 6pm, Mondays to Fridays.

We're keen to begin such a service but before we can confirm whether it will proceed and before we can start employing people or setting up the facility, we need to know whether there is interest from local families.

Whether your children attend Windellama Public School, home school or any other school, if you're interested we need to know:

how many children would use the service?

whether you are interested in permanent or casual placements?

what hours suit you best?

any other thoughts you'd like us to consider us as we look into the potential for Windellama-based after school care.

The service will only be established if we can confirm there is a need, so if you are interested or if you would like further information call us on 4844 5130 or email us at [email protected]

The Windellama Landcare Group’s busy bee at the Budjong Creek chain-of-ponds on Sandy Point Road on 3 September found members putting up more fauna friendly fencing on the road side of the chain-of-ponds. Although rather watery underfoot (gumboots were essential equipment) the day was a great success, and especially successful was the new barbecue. Some slithery creatures had been spied the day before, but stayed away from the busy bee.

Our next busy bee will again be held at the chain-of-ponds when we will be planting trees. The busy bee will be held on both days of the weekend of the 15 and 16 October when we will be joined by the Willoughby Bushcare group from Sydney. The plan is to plant some trees in clumps along the fence line on Sandy Point Road at the chain-of-ponds and, if there is time, we will be putting a pin weir in one of the ponds. A pin-weir, made up of 200 inch-square pegs will form a leaky weir to slow the water flow. If you would like to join us – families are very welcome – we will meet at the chain-of-ponds on Sandy Point Road at 9.30 on Saturday 15 October at 9.30 for a cuppa and a 10 am start. Please bring along your work gloves, a hat if it’s hot and gumboots if it’s wet.

Work will continue on the following day, Sunday 16 October, starting at the same time. Morning tea and lunch will be provided on both days. PLEASE LET US KNOW if you are able to attend the busy bee – on either or both days – ring Joy and John Darragh on 02 4844 5225 or Sandra Greville on 02 4844 5047 so that we make sure we have enough tucker for all!

Copies of Carina Clarke’s recently published first and second volumes of Wild Windellama, are still available. These books contain all the articles that Carina wrote for the Windellama news between September 1997 and March 2004 and include her beautiful drawings of fauna and flora of the Windellama region. If you would like to purchase copies of these two volumes, they are available from John Pearce 02 4844 5244 and Tony and Sandra Greville 02 4844 5047 at the very reasonable price of $10.00 for the set.
