The window into the working brain is a mirror…..a mirror of ourselves.

My ‘BrainArt’ reflects that the brain is the only fundamental frame of reference, from which to make sense of anything.

BrainArt is my ongoing catharsis in this absurd but occasionally wonderous world.

The main themes in my paintings include:

Human Brian EvolutionBrain DynamicsSelf

Examples below reflect these themes:

Fighting for Self Veneer of Self Dislocated Self Emergent Self Foresightful Self Integrated Self

Symbolic LanguageSymbolic LanguageI have also created a language of SYMBOLS, to reflect the key factors that I think underly brain function and Self. The science behind these symbols is summarized in my books: ‘Integrative Neuroscience’,‘The Fragile Brain’ and scientific publications.Selected symbols (presented on the next 2 pages) are only embedded in my completed paintings. Final versions of paintings are signed off next to my image of integrated symbols (shown below and enlarged on the next page; the final page summarizes the essence of each symbol).

I paint mainly with primary colors straight from the tube, to reflect simple rules underly the complexities of the working brain. I use subtle visual distortions –for example: created by looking through transparent silicone, to signify that ‘nothing is as it seems’. As an ‘Integrationist’, I mix media (oils, acrylic, photography, other), each simply an element of the whole.
