ST. ANDREW’S CHURCH, WISSETT

LATE BREAKFAST CHURCH Come to church on the fourth Sunday in JUNE and JULY for Breakfast! There is a short informal service followed by a breakfast of croissants, butter, jam and coffee or tea and lots of chat. Everybody welcome. June 24th. July 22nd.

NEWS FROM ST ANDREW’S CHURCH At this time of year the Church has been moving quick-ly from one festival to the next, still with Trinity Sun-day coming up, and the not very protestant Corpus Christi; then relaxation into lots of Sundays after Trini-ty, or after Pentecost if preferred. St John Baptist marks midsummer. So the ‘normal pattern’ of services re-sumes, but the rota for ministers throughout the ten churches in the team is strained because Jan Bunday is unwell, and Edward Rennard’s recovery is slow. Only ten made this year’s Rogation Walk: we do want to keep this traditional event going, and if you are a true diary enthusiast put next year’s date in, 26th May 2019, come, walk, and enjoy tea in Spexhall. Other special events have been much enjoyed, and thank you to all who came. The Plant Sale, again ar-ranged by Alan Witherby, raised a rounded up £500. Many thanks to all who contributed plants for the sale. Susan Fitch with professional skill led the organising of the Flower Festival; with its preview, raffles, and re-freshments it made an unrounded £742. We would have liked more people to see the beautiful and imaginative arrangements, but it was a happy co-incidence to have Team Sung Evensong here on the Sunday. We look for-ward to Open Gardens on 10th June which raises mon-ey for the church fabric.. The Royal Wedding was marked, on Sunday 20th, by ringing a full peal of 5040 changes in three complicated methods, a feat of endurance as well as skill, lasting about 2 hours and 40 minutes. Finally, it is a great pleasure to note that Claire Kiddy will be ordained deacon in Bury St. Edmund’s Cathe-dral on Saturday 30th June. There will be a celebratory tea, at which all are welcome, in the village hall at about 3.30. Nick Evans

WISSETT VILLAGE HALL The Village Hall is available for hire at £6 per hour for the duration of the event. It has good facilities, including crockery, glasses, cutlery, an oven, microwave and fridge. There are chairs and tables to seat 50 and a toilet for the disabled. Heating by £1-in-the-slot meter. Please contact Lyn Elliott if you would like to hire the hall.

PETTY THEFT FROM THE CHURCH. It is with great sadness that we have to report that there have been petty thefts from the church. The biscuit tin, stocked for weary visitors, has been emptied in one go on more than one occasion and, recently, a purse was stolen from a handbag, accidentally left in the church. Cards of various sorts, including a bank card, driving licence etc were in the purse.

WISSETT VILLAGE HALL COMMITTEE At the AGM of the Wissett Village Hall Committee; John Young retired as chairman and Symon Clarke was elected in his place. Kathleen Witherby continues as Secretary. David Andrews continues as treasurer.
