Principal’s Message
Welcome back to school everyone! The 2019-2020 school year is off
to a great start. The teachers have worked very hard before the start
of school to set up their classrooms to make it the best possible
learning environment for your children. Jade and Dianna have put in
many hours unpacking and organizing the beautiful new office space
so that they can be more productive in helping the students and
parents when they come into the school. We are all very excited to
be back with your children!
We have many new faces in the building this year. Feel free to come
and check out the bulletin board in the entrance to see who they all
are. On the next page is a list of the FJMES school staff.
On behalf of everyone in the building, welcome back and we look
forward to being your partner in your child’s academic growth this
year.

Office Check In
We are always happy to
have parents come to the
school to help out in
classrooms or meet with
adults in the building. It is
important, however, to
always check into the office first so that we
are aware of all people in the building,
especially if you are visiting the portables. In
the case of any emergency drill, it is
important to be able to account for all people
in the building.
Thank you for your cooperation in this
process so we can keep everyone safe.
Forms
Within the next week,
there will be several
permission forms and
informational items
that need your
attention. Please take
the time to read, make any corrections, sign
and return all of the forms in order to allow
your child to fully participate in the school
activities.
Thank you for your time with this paperwork.
Code of Conduct
The code of conduct for the school is written
in the front of your child’s agenda. Please
review these procedures with your child so
that you are both familiar with the school’s
expectations.
Sangha
Last school year,
FJMES piloted a
communication app called Sangha. The year
started out with a few bugs but we certainly
gave it a great try and worked many of the
bugs out. Unfortunately, over the summer,
the company who designed the app made a
few changes which the school district did not
feel is in the best interest of the schools.
Therefore, we will NOT be using the sangha
app again this year. The district will continue
to work to find something that will meet the
needs of the school.
Thank you to all the parents last year who
helped with this piloting.
One to One Reading
We will once again be
offering the one to one
reading program at the
school. This is a very
important program for
students to get that little
extra practice time reading with an adult.
This program would not be possible without
the wonderful volunteers.
Thank you to the many volunteers who
responded to my Facebook post and have
already offered their time. If there is anyone
else who would like to volunteer for this very
worthwhile program, please contact me at
the school. Training will be provided on
Tuesday, September 24 from 1:00 – 3:00 pm.
We hope to have the program up and running
by the beginning of October.

Hallway
Frank J Mitchell School is
currently at 409 students!
We are growing very quickly
and with that growth comes
more and more students in
the hallway at the end of
the school day. Due to the
congestion, we ask that
parents please meet your child outside at the
waiting wall after school and not add to the
busyness of the hallway commotion,
especially in the intermediate wing. Thank
you for your assistance in keeping our
hallways safe.
PAC Meeting
The first PAC
meeting of the year
will take place on
Monday, September
16th from 6:00 – 7:30 pm in the school library.
At this first meeting, the new executive will
be voted in. Please consider volunteering for
one of these important positions and being
part of the school team.
All parents are welcome and encouraged to
attend all PAC meetings throughout the year.
Child care is available free of charge for all
parents who need it. Please call the school if
you require this service.
Parking Lot
The parking lot at the
front of the school is
for staff only. Please
do not drive into the
parking lot to pick up
or drop off your
students before and
after school. Many times students are
walking through the parking lot between
parked cars, and that is very dangerous,
therefore we encourage all parents to drop
your children off by an entrance to the
playground so that everyone stays safe.
Thank you for your assistance with this.
Criminal Records Check
There are many times throughout the year
that teachers will request parent volunteers
for field trips or helping in the classroom. In
order to participate in these events you are
required to have criminal records check
completed. Criminal record checks are good
for five years. If you feel that you would like
to help out throughout the year, please pick
up a package from the office.
PLAY IS THE WAY
Last January, we began
the school wide
program called Play is
the Way. This program helps teach students
how to self-regulate, cooperate, and learn
social emotional skills through games and
activities. This program was a great success
and we are looking forward to a full year of
these activities again this year.
