What you can waive

● The Fall courses that you can waive:○ MBA200S: Data and Decisions (Statistics) ○ MBA201A: Microeconomics○ MBA202: Financial Accounting○ MBA203: Introduction to Finance○ MBA206: Introduction to Marketing
● Still need 51 units to graduate○ Will make up units with elective courses sometime during the program
How you can waive

● Automatic Waivers: email certifications/exam results to [email protected]○ Accounting: Passed the CPA exam or level II of CFA○ Finance: Passed level III of CFA
● Waiver Exams ○ Sign up in advance-- look for the link in 7/15 newsletter ○ 4 exam sessions over Aug 15, 16 & 19. Exams are FREE. ○ At the exam
■ Check the instructions RE: what you can bring■ Exams start promptly at the beginning of the session, no late arrivals■ All students sign an honor code■ Length of the exams & taking multiple exams■ Finishing an exam is optional but you only get one shot at taking it
After the Exams

● What can I expect after I take the exam(s)?○ Faculty grade them-- Results are Pass/Fail ○ Exams are not returned ○ Results will be delivered by 8/23
● If you successfully waive... ○ Elective options & a link to non-Haas electives will be shared ○ We’ll include a short video with registration information ○ 1:1 advising will be available
● If you don’t pass…○ You just take the class in the fall-- no biggie!
How to prepare

● Build a study plan from now until the waiver exam dates○ Review the waiver exam guidelines on the New Admit site for each course○ Take the sample exam and/or review the course syllabus○ Use the course textbook to refresh ○ Check out online resources-- faculty suggestions on the New Admit site
Considerations for waiving
To waive or not to waive...that is the question!

● Advantages to waiving: ○ Spend extra time on challenging areas of the core○ The gift of time (time=scarcest resource)○ Frees up time to take additional electives in areas of interest ○ Frees up time to focus on social, networking, clubs, etc.
● Advantages to not waiving: ○ Exposure to professional cases and content that deepen expertise ○ If you’re strong in the area, you can be a mentor to your peers ○ Great way to make a strong impression on the faculty who are subject matter experts in their
fields
