Student Profile: Thuong
• Studying Chemistry• Spent Summer ‘10 at our
partner school, POSTECH, as a research assistant
• Her first time abroad and in a lab!
It was amazing! It really, truly was the best experience ever. I'm so in love with traveling now… I worked specifically with metal nanoparticles, mostly silver. I was partnered up with one of the grad students there. All of the members in my lab were intelligent, motivated, and hardworking people. At first I was so nervous in lab because I was afraid that the people in lab wouldn't talk to me. But my lab members were some of the nicest people I have ever met… I honestly can't stop telling people how amazing this experience was.

Student Profile: Brian• Civil Engineering, ’09 grad• EWB President, participated in
several site visits to Uganda • Won a design competition in
2009 which included a site visit to India from the Acara Institute
• Currently in the Sustainable International Development Master’s program at Utrecht University
I wanted to help others, and to meet other humanitarian-minded engineering students interested in volunteer work. Through EWB… I was able to find leadership and project experiences… Also, my experiences working with IT staff from Student Services and the Dean's Office, as well as the staff in the CivE office and faculty members from several departments, played a large part in my overall experience at the U of M. I met so many devoted people willing to provide support to students in ways they may not have been called upon to help before.
