WELCOME...

Welcome to the Autumn edition of ‘InSight’, the company magazine of

AJ Power Limited.

Inside you will find it packed with dealer case-studies, new product information and other happenings in the world of AJ Power.

If you would like to feature in our magazine or have any photographs you would like to contribute, please contact me.

To mark the 10th anniversary of AJ Power, InSight has been bringing

you a piece of AJ Power history in each edition. In this edition we take you through the years from 2008 - 2013.

2008 saw continued growth for AJ Power due to ever increasing capacity and geographical distribution of products. The company gained ISO 9001 accreditation in quarter 2 and signed a major worldwide contract with the AGCO corporation. Special project sales in this year included high profile projects for Reuters in London and 5 Nos. 2500kVA sound attenuated units for a large data centre in Slough UK. Little did we know at this stage that a worldwide recession was starting, initially in Western Europe and progressively throughout the world.

AJ Power weathered the storm well and sales started to recover in late 2009. This was led mainly by large volume orders in the telecommunications radio base station sector. The start

of 2010 saw new distribution channels in Bolivia and Panama and an order for a high profile multiple unit power plant for a data centre in Rwanda. As well as a 3000kVA unit for a new police station in the UK and a similar unit for India.

The company returned to pre recession business levels in 2010 and with growing sales and personnel came the need to expand our office accommodation. During the recession significant sums were spent on R&D resulting in an enhanced product offering and ever increasing product line.

The company continues to invest in its facilities. 2012 saw the start of construction of a new “high” bay facility for the production of 800 - 4000kVA units. The building incorporates “state of the art” fully acoustic test cells to enable low/ high voltage testing and synchronisation and is now nearing completion.

Its been a busy few years!

Check out the next edition of InSight for future plans for AJ Power!

AJ Power Electrical and Electronic engineer, Patrick Cunningham, has

recently returned from a training trip to CPMAQ in Peru, South America.

Patrick was born in Galicia, an autonomous community in the north-west corner of Spain, bordering Portugal. His father is Irish, his mother is Galician. Throughout his childhood he spoke in both English and Spanish and is now fluent in both as well as Galician. This is extremely beneficial to Patrick when travelling to Spanish speaking companies such as CPMAQ based in Lima, Peru.

CPMAQ is the AJ Power distributor in Peru. It is a new subsidiary of TEIRSAC, a company with 26 years experience in the rental of generator sets and light towers. TEIRSAC is a well established company with over 250 generators sets and 40 light

Patrick conducted a training course on the installation, operation and maintenance of AJ Power generating sets. The course consisted of basic training in a classroom environment as well as practical training using the gensets CPMAQ have in their premises in Lima.

While in Lima the staff of CPMAQ also took Patrick sightseeing in the

The project consisted of 27 diesel gensets for the

following applications:

On grid standby Power – 16 sites each with a different load profile. Sites were reviewed individually resulting in 15 x 3 phase sets AJ14, AJ22 and AJ33, each with oversized AC alternators and 3 phase sensing to accept the unbalanced loading on the sites. On one site a single phase AJ10 was selected to match the load. All on grid sets were supplied with a galvanised sound attenuated canopy, static battery charger, coolant heater and ATS.

Off grid Prime Power – 7 sites were supplied with single phase AJ10 or AJ14 canopied gensets complete with 600 litre integral fuel tank.

Mobile Back up Power – 4 canopied gensets were supplied with galvanised road trailers and AC power sockets for quick power connection.

All sets were supplied with Insight 3200 panel along with

GSM/GPRS wireless remote communications module. Remote communication can give manyadvantages including reducing the need for site visits, minimising downtime, prioritising maintenance, alarm notification and reviewing fuel levels.

• Easy accessibility to multiple generators’

data from any computer/smartphonewith an internet connection.

• full remote control of gensets, including starting and stopping, via LiteEditsoftware.

• The capability to receive immediate text messages or emails with data andalarm information.

The Sunday Times International Track 200 ranks the united

kingdom’s mid-market private companies with the fastest-growing international sales. In 2010 AJ Power first appeared on this listing ranked 52nd, having previously been ranked 4th and 53rd on the fast Track 100 for fastest growing companies.

In 2013 we are proud to have been placed 72nd on the International Track 200. The

award, which is sponsored by The Sunday Times and HSBC, gives a clear indication of AJ

Power’s strength and constant commitment to growth in international sales.

As a result of winning this award AJ Power were invited to attend

the annual awards dinner on 17 September 2013 at the Jumeirah Carlton Tower Hotel in London. The dinner presented a great opportunity to network with other business leaders, who are achieving a high level of success in global sales, along with key individuals in the banking sector.

Over the last few months there have been increased enquiries regarding the servicing of the centrifugal oil filter on the Scania engines, and what “spinner rings” are on parts quotes. The filter is the domed item below the turbocharger on the DC12 and DC13 engines, and in the “V” below the air filter housings on the DC16 engine. This filter does not contain an element, it just requires careful dismantling, deposits washed and/or scraped out and rebuilt with new o-rings.

The top cover is removed to reveal the rotor housing and the o-rings sealing it in place. Use a M20 bolt head to remove the top of the rotor whilst secured in a vice;

Tap the rotor nut lightly with a plastic mallet so that the bowl becomes loose from the bottom plate, remove the nut and rotor bowl. Then carefully prise the strainer from the rotor bowl;

Pictured Above: Simon Ballentine and Andrew Pigott from AJ Power attended

the annual awards dinner in London.

Clean all the parts in diesel, ensure the nozzles are clean and reassemble the rotor with a new o-ring, refit the rotor, fit a new o-ring to the bowl and screw on the bowl. Ensure the rotor spins freely in the housing, it should spin for 30-60 seconds after the engine has stopped. The open centrifugal filter (with the rotor removed) can be used as an access point to fill the engine during an oil change.

AJ Power Director of Sales, Joe Bradley, has recently returned from

Oman where AJ Power was exhibiting at the Infra Exhibition at the Oman international Exhibition Centre, Sultanate of Oman.

In co-operation with the Ministry of Transport and Communications the exhibtion’s aim was to meet the growing requirements of the contruction and infrastructure sectors in Oman.

The exhibition was from 30th September to 2nd October and this was the first time AJ Power

have exhibited in Oman, having already exhibited in other Middle Eastern countries many times.

On display at the AJ Power stand were two of our popular models - an AJ66 canopied genset and an AJ22 canopied genset, both Perkins powered.

It was a very successful exhibition for AJ Power which was reflected by the number of serious enquiries and the value of business conducted over the 3 day period.

Joe commented following his trip, “the local people were very friendly and interested in seeing our product in their local market place”.

Although most of the countries in the Middle East have fairly flat terrain, the ancient port settlement of Muscat has grown around several peaks. These continue to define the city’s unique appearance. There are restrictions in place on building heights and many beautifully designed government buildings are present, in line with the local culture. Many gates, such as the Muscat Gate (pictured

above), mark many roads in Muscat showing again that city beautification is a top priority for the Muscat municipality. Ancient forts remain a constant reminder of the country’s rich history, including the Portuguese occupation of Muscat in the 15th and 16th centuries.

• Muscat is the capital of Oman.• oman is traditionally known for breeding Arab

horses.• Oman allowed tourists to enter its territory only at

the beginning of the 1900’s.• Oman joined the UN in 1971.
