A NEW GLOBAL BRAND IN SPORT:

A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITYThe Ocean Masters World Championship is the most successful offshore racing class in the world. After the America’s Cup, the Ocean Masters global circuit, which includes such legendary events as the Vendée Globe, is the most successful franchise in sailing. With 30 active teams sponsored by international brands, as well as world class events backed by International Federations and national governments, this is a fast growing, value delivering and future proofed sporting property.

Today we are able to offer to the right brand the opportunity to become the sole Title Rights Partner to the Ocean Masters World Championship circuit. It is our intention to continue to grow the Ocean Masters World Championship, in collaboration with our Title Partner, in order to reach new territories and expand its profile and value internationally. We aim to do this through the development of new events, such as this year’s New York to Barcelona Race, and the use of the latest broadcast technology to engage an ever expanding global audience.

There are few properties in sport that have such a full and uncluttered brand activation potential so I believe this is a truly unique opportunity for the right brand to ‘own’ this legendary, exciting and fast growing sport franchise. Together we will create sporting history, I am excited to be a part of it and I look forward to sharing the journey with a Title Partner that shares our vision, commitment and ambition.

A RICH HERITAGESolo sailing is still one of the few extreme adventures left in the world today. Less than 100 people have sailed around the world non-stop, single-handed and unassisted. Sir Francis Charles Chichester KBE (17 September 1901 - 26 August 1972), aviator and sailor, was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II for becoming the first person to sail single-handed around the world by the clipper route,

and the fastest circumnavigator, in nine months and one day overall. Since then he has been joined by a few select legends and heroes – names such as Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, Titouan Lamazou, Ellen McArthur, Michel Desjoyeaux – make this sport one of the most thrilling in the world.

The IMOCA Class is the most successful ocean racing class in the world today in terms of active

numbers of skippers, boats and teams.

Titouan Lamazou winner of the first Vendée Globe event in 1989/90.

Michel Desjoyeaux – the only person to have won the Vendée Globe event twice

– in 2000/01 and again in 2008/09.

IMOCA (International Monohull Open Class Association) is the international association, recognised by the

International Sailing Federation (ISAF)that administers Open 60 monohull sailboats. IMOCA manages all of the

technical and regulatory aspects of the programme.

A UNIQUE COMMERCIAL OPPORTUNITYWe are in a unique position to offer the title partnership rights to one of the most successful franchises in professional sailing under a new brand – the Ocean Masters World Championship. Building on the huge following in Europe, we are ‘going global’ and want to find a Title Partner to help us take this sport to a wider audience and maximize its commercial potential.

The Title Partner would receive full naming and branding rights to the Ocean Masters World Championship, the name of the race boat and the title naming rights to the new events that we create e.g the Ocean Masters New York to Barcelona race.

Teams compete for The Ocean Masters World Championship over a two year event calendar. The final event of each cycle is a ‘Round the World Race’. The next one is the Barcelona World Race – a double-handed race (2 crew) starting and finishing from Barcelona in Spain, on 31st December 2014. In 2016,

the teams will compete in the Vendée Globe, the iconic solo, non-stop, unassisted race around the world, starting and finishing in Les Sables D’Olonne, France.

In between these two pinnacle events, the programme consists of a number of oceanic races, include the Route du Rhum,

the Transat Jacques Vabre and the Rolex Fastnet Race, and the newest race in the calendar, the Ocean Masters New York to Barcelona race. This is an expanding programme and, with our commercial partners, we intend to add new races in iconic venues as we continue to grow internationally.

François Gabart, 29 years old, youngest ever winner of the Vendée Globe. He departed on 10th November 2012 and finished on 27th January 2013, setting a new record by nearly 6 days of 78 days, 2 hours, 16 minutes and 40 seconds.

François Gabart and his competitors took IMOCA sailing to a whole new level in the 2012/13 edition of the Vendée Globe. Showcasing

a new approach, both physically and mentally, of how to race a marathon at the pace of a sprint.

On his arrival Gabart commented: “It is a huge relief! Until the end, you never know what might happen, particularly since the last night was not so easy. For several days I had begun to believe in it nonetheless! We have super boats! As I left, I didn’t think I

would be coming back victorious. But in the Indian Ocean I started to believe it was possible. It is a difficult race, but I tried to fight it with a measured temperament. I never bowed my head nor gave up, or at least only for a few seconds. Five days after the start, I had a small problem with the engine. It was a little rough, but I managed to fix it. The hardest of all is the length of the race and the constant pace! It

never stops! Even in the Bay of Biscay, I was not spared! It’s the calm that I missed most, since we were tossed about a lot – I missed being somewhere that doesn’t move anymore – and then of course, my friends, my girlfriend, my son, the life of a landlubber! Thank you Armel Le Cléac’h. What we experienced together was exceptional! For the racers we are privileged to experience this ultimate challenge.”

“The Vendée Globe taught me how to dig deep, to discover my limits, and

then to go a bit further.”Dame Ellen Macarthur, aged just 24, finished in 2nd place

in the Vendée Globe 2000/2001, after 94 days at sea. She became the youngest person ever to finish the race,

the fastest woman around the globe and only the 2nd person ever to sail around the world solo in under 100 days.

Page 12: THE WORLD'S MOST SUCCESSFUL OCEAN RACING CIRCUIT

T E C H N O L O G YThe IMOCA ‘Open’ 60 yacht is a hot bed of technological advancement. 60 feet (18.3 metres) in length, with a maximum beam of 5.85 metres and a draft of 4.5 metres, she weighs all up around 7.7 tonnes. Her mast height is a lofty 29 metres and the all up sail area comes to a frightening 340 upwind and 570m2 downwind – frightening when you think that one or maximum two sailors have to tame this beast.

The Class is called ‘Open’ due to the design rule. Sailors and teams design and build their own boats to a ‘rule’ that has certain key areas defined and certain areas ‘open to interpretation’. This is as much a design and technology race as it is a sailing race. New developments and concepts are introduced with each new boat and the evolution of the class is both exciting and challenging.

“The main thing is she’s brutal,” talking of his new race yacht,

“more brutal than you can possibly imagine. I struggle to see

how I’m going to be able to sail her on my own to be honest.”

SAFRANSafran is a leading international high technology group with three core businesses – Aerospace, Defence and Security. In late 2005 they launched an ocean racing sponsorship project, dubbed “Safran Sailing Team”. The aim of this project was to enhance recognition of the new Group created by the merger of Sagem and Snecma. At the same time, it was designed to provide a rallying point for the tens of thousands of Group employees worldwide.

Since its launch on August 6, 2007, the Safran Open 60 ocean racer has taken part in the world’s major oceanic races, both solo and crewed, (Transat Jacques Vabre, Route du Rhum, Rolex Fastnet Race, Vendée Globe). Safran has largely exceeded the conventional role as financial sponsor, and is deeply involved in both design and construction of the boats. The Group called on its considerable human and technical resources to develop innovative technologies, derived from its aerospace and defense businesses, for this state-of-the-art ocean racer.

Safran announced in early 2014 that it is extending its commitment to ocean racing through to at least the 2016 Vendée Globe. Continuing on from Safran’s many achievements in this challenging discipline since 2005, the latest project aims to embody the Group’s core values of engagement, teamwork and knowledge transmission. Safran is launching the construction of a new boat and expanding its team of skippers to solidify its position among the leaders in competitive sailing, as well as in the business sectors of aerospace, defense and security.

The Safran Sailing Team now has a full complement of three seasoned skippers, with the addition of two young sailors, Morgan Lagravière for the Ocean Masters World Championship, and Gwénolé Gahinet in the Figaro Bénéteau category. Current skipper Marc Guillemot, will continue at the helm of the Safran IMOCA 60 in 2014, before taking a coaching role with the team.

The Ocean Masters World Championship represents a true adventure. One or two sailors taking on the elements and whatever conditions the environment throws at them. They have both a hunger to win and a thirst for discovery. Whatever else, they learn to respect the environment.

The Ocean Masters World Championship is at the forefront of sailing technology and

presents a clean and efficient sport. Our ambition is to showcase a competitive, inspiring and 100% sustainable calendar of events.

This adventure offers a Title Partner the chance to communicate its own policies, beliefs and values around the key subjects of sustainability, climate change and environmental commitment.

RESPECTING OUR ENVIRONMENT

Being hosted by FNOB in the build up to the start of the 2014 Barcelona

World Race, between 17-21 November 2014, the Intergovernmental

Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO and the Oceanography Society will

convene a new International Ocean Research Conference in Barcelona to

discuss and plan the coming decade of international collaboration in marine

sciences and technology.

The Ocean Masters World Championship fields one of the most diverse groups of skippers, teams and sponsors in the sport of sailing. Up to 30 active teams at any one time with sponsors that vary from French regional manufacturers to global fashion and aerospace high technology brands. The variety of commercial sponsors reflects the flexibility and high return on investment that sponsors can derive from the association with a real human endeavour story. It is this story that brands can draw from and use throughout their internal, B2B and B2C communications, delivering brand impact and high levels of engagement.

Not only are the legendary skippers in the Ocean Masters World Championship expected to race the boats, navigate hazards, analyze the ever-changing weather conditions and maintain their technical racing machines – but they are also expected to be storyteller, cameraman, editor, director, writer and photographer. Previously we had to rely on stories and adventures told after the races were over – today we have the ability to engage with our inspiring heroes throughout their racing adventures.

The Ocean Masters circuit has ambitious plans for technological investment and improvement. Right now we rely on the skippers finding the time to update us, write blogs, take photos and video when a moment arises. Soon much of that work will become more automated enabling us to view and ‘experience’ even the most challenging conditions where the skipper is literally ‘all hands on deck’.

TRUE STORIES DIRECT FROM THE OCEAN

Alex Thomson onboard ‘Hugo Boss’ goes live on BBC Breakfast news during a Rolex Fastnet race.

Jean Le Cam onboard ‘Synerciel’ writes his daily blog and sends film and photos of the

day to his fans and followers.

Page 26: THE WORLD'S MOST SUCCESSFUL OCEAN RACING CIRCUIT

Technology is changing all around us. We expect to be able to receive news and updates and watch live action whenever it suits us and have the information tailor made for the right experience on your smart phone, tablet, laptop or internet ready TV – the list is growing every day.

Across the Ocean Masters platform, that technology is exploding. Today you can literally ‘live the moments’ with your chosen skippers and teams out on the ocean. View the race tracker at 0400 hours if you want to and see what has changed since you last checked 10 minutes ago; How fast are they going? In what wind speed? What’s the forecast? Are they sleeping? What are they eating?

The future of digital engagement in our sport of ocean racing has unlimited possibilities and one day soon we will be able to watch Ocean Masters racing action live 24:7, interact with the Skippers in real time and follow their every move – watch this space!!
