The young boy was running. It was morning.

The boy had gone to the field of his father, to guard the crops against the birds and the monkeys.

Birds and monkey liked to eat the seeds.

But the boys family needed to have a good harvest, and so the boy was sent by his father to scare away the birds and monkeys.

The boy had brought a small slingshot to shoot rocks at the birds and monkeys.

He arrived at the field early in the morning just as the sun was rising.

There were no clouds in the sky. It was going to be a hot day.

The boy was sitting under a nice big tree that would be cool and shady at noon, the hottest time of the day.

Suddenly, the boy heard a sound.

It was the sound of an animal moving through the grass.

The field was very close to the bush. The boy was scared.

He loaded his slingshot, and drew the rubber back, ready to fire.

He heard more sounds. Something was coming closer! The boys heart beat fast.

The sound stopped, and the boy looked into the grass. Something fell out of the tree onto his head.

It was a small stick.

The boy looked up.

Three monkeys were in the tree, and they all started throwing sticks at the boy. They howled loudly!

The boy got up and ran! He ran as fast as he could back to his village.

When he got there, his father told him not to worry.

Imagine that! Three monkeys with sticks were attacking one boy!

The boy and his father ran back to the field and chased the monkeys away.
