CORRECTLY.
Project 1 – basic stage vocabulary puzzle
A. Using either a web site or the text book, select a minimum of twenty
vocabulary words from stage and film theater; find a thumbnail picture for
a definition of each word. Turn in a document with the words & pictures.
B. Create a word search or crossword puzzle using those words. (Look up
theater arts vocabulary words; then find a word search generator on line
and create a puzzle.) Print or email.
C. Draw or create in a document a diagram of a stage. Label the parts of the
stage. (Search for a “labeled stage diagram; put in a word doc & email.) You
are looking for a traditional stage with labels such as Center Stage, Up Left,
Down Right, etc.
D. Locate The Majestic Theater in New York City on GOOGLE IMAGES. Find
and copy & paste a Majestic Theater seating chart and at least 5 photos of
the theater showing the inside and outside of the building. Print or email.
Project 2 – puppet show for kids
A. Write a script for a 3-5 minute play for children that will use puppets.
B. Make a copy of the script for each member of the play.
C. Create puppets using socks, paper bags, popsicle sticks or cut out figures.
D. Present the play to the class.

Project 3 – history of theater power point
A. Research the history of the theater beginning with Greek theater.
B. Create a timeline for theater starting with Ancient Greek Theater.
C. Provide pictures and information for each major era of theater; make sure
you include the following: Greek (ANTIGONE), Medieval (Mystery plays,
Bible stories) , Renaissance (Shakespeare & Marlowe, The Globe & The Rose),
1800s (Lillie Langtry), 1900s stage & film (stage=OKLAHOMA & HAIR &
film=WIZARD OF OZ & GONE WITH THE WIND & HOW THE WEST WAS
WON), and 21st Century stage and film (Stage=KINKY BOOTS & film=KUNG
FU PANDA).
D. Begin your research with Wikipedia history of theater but include other
more scholarly sources.
E. You MUST include a sources page.

Project 4 – script, design, film
A. Write a script for a 6-8 minute screen play on a theme that would be
appropriate to show at an elementary school.
B. Assign character parts, choose a director and camera crew or you be the
camera crew and director and have someone else run lines.
C. Plan where you will film.
D. Plan sound and lighting.
E. Put all designs and script into word documents or power point slides.
F. Film and present.
Project 5 – period costume power point
A. Choose one of the following plays:

FINAL EXAM
Choose a character from stage or screen play (such as Cleopatra or Caesar); design
and create a crown, hat, tiara, or jewelry pieces for that character.
Measure a person’s head or hand for the piece to ensure it is usable.
Use paper, foil, scraps of fabric, beads, old jewelry, cardboard, elastic, whatever you
can find. Paint, glue, and assemble.
Model your creation as you explain for what play and character your creation is
designed.

Develop a Director’s Promptbook:
a. Read pages 257-259 in THEATER ART IN ACTION or locate a web site that
will provide a director’s to-do list.
b. Develop a list of what a director must do in order to develop a play for stage
or film.
c. Analyze the script for the play OUR TOWN.
d. Put into a word document or power point.
e. Include a paragraph that discusses the pros and cons of being a director and
whether you would want to be a director.
f. Email to turn in.
Project 3 – CONSTRUCT THE GLOBE THEATRE
Shakespeare and The Globe Theatre were the most influential and successful
playwright and theatre in history.
a. Make a model of Shakespeare’s Globe Theater; the pattern is attached.
b. Develop a presentation on Shakespeare
and The Globe Theatre in which you
give a brief biography of Shakespeare
and a thorough explanation of how and
why he built The Globe.
c. Include in your presentation a diagram
that shows the location of the following:
the hut, heavens, the hell, wardrobe, stage doors, trap door, inner stage, pit,
stairs, main entrance, lords’ room,
middle gallery, and the flag and what
flying it meant.
Project 4 – LIGHT AND SOUND
Create a power point presentation in which you define and explain the following:
a. Mixing console (sound board)
b. Lighting control console (light board)
c. Sound design
d. Light design
e. THEN, using the iPad, learn how to do simple sound mixing on Garage
Band.
f. Present what you have learned.
Project 5 – HISTORY OF STAGE MAKEUP
Explore the history of the use of masks in Ancient Greek Theater.
A. Then examine Shakespearean makeup.
B. Research 19th century makeup (1800s,
Lilly Langtry).
C. Then, 20th century makeup, prosthetics,
and modern techniques to change appearances of actors.
You may create a poster, power point, prezi, or demonstration.
THEN, Choose one of the following:
A. Create a Greek Mask in papier mache
B. Make your own makeup (see attached
instructions).
C. Apply makeup to yourself or someone
else in 19th or 20th century makeup
for a particular stage or screen play.
D. Present & demonstrate.
How to Make Theatrical Makeup
o 1
Use shortening as a base makeup. Put the shortening in a bowl and mix in your choice of food coloring to achieve the base facial color you're after. Use a light dusting of flour instead of powder to set the shortening. Add unsweetened cocoa powder to the flour to create a darker foundation powder.
o 2
Combine 2 1/2 tablespoons of water with 60 drops of red food coloring, ten drops of yellow food coloring, and 3 drops of blue food coloring, mix well, then combine the colored water with white corn syrup. Pour in slowly, until you achieve the desired consistency. This will give you a theatrical staple: blood.

Heat a 1/4 cup of cold water and gelatin until the gelatin dissolves. Paint corn syrup on your face wherever you want a scab, then apply cornmeal to the corn syrup. Apply a thick coat and let it dry, then brush away the excess and paint the scabs any combination of nasty colors you'd like.

Glue small hairbrush bristles onto peppercorns and use eyelash glue to apply the peppercorns to your hands and face. These will make perfect warts.

Use cottonballs shredded and colored with food coloring to create beards, moustaches, and thick eyebrows. You can apply the cottonballs with eyelash glue or even corn syrup. Mix and match your homemade theatrical makeup to create a range of gruesome creatures.

drama has evolved into what it is today.

PROJECT 7 – HROSWITHA & HILDEGARD
A. Hroswitha was a nun in the 900s who
Wrote plays. Research her biography.
B. Hildegard modeled her work after
Hroswitha. Also research her biography.
C. Examine the time period of the 900s,
the country of Germany at the time,
and the biographies and works of both
women.
D. Put your findings into a power point or
a poster and essay.
E. Present.
FINAL
A. Draw or print a diagram of a stage.
B. Block THE TEMPEST: Act 1, Scene 2 which
Includes Prospero, Miranda, Ariel, Caliban,
And Ferdinand.
