This Month’s Ministry Focus: WOMEN’S LIFE GROUP The Women’s Life Group, formerly known as Women of Grace or WOG, is a ministry involving all the women of The Vine Church. The co-leaders for the group, Lori Sewell, Lacy Snively, and Linda Fetzer, have a desire to see the women at The Vine come together to develop relationships, grow spiritually, and support the church in God honoring activities. A large focus of this year’s activities are organizing fund raising opportunities to support the Benevolence Fund at The Vine. Our goal is to help raise $1,000.00 to provide for the needs of individuals in the Smithsburg Community. Activities such as yard sales, baked sales, and a silent auction will hopefully help us reach this goal. A recent answer to prayer has been the beginning of a Women’s Bible Study focusing on “chasing after the heart of God”. The study by Jennie Allen teaches about David as “a man after God’s own heart” (1 Samuel 13:14) and his love for God. Led by Karen Snively, the group meets on the first Monday of each month at 6:30 at The Vine. This study has supported our goals of developing relationships while growing spiritually. Personally, Lori would like to see the Women’s Life Group encourage all ladies of The Vine to join in fellowship with one another. She would also like to see this fellowship expand to family and friends, and into the communities of Smithsburg and Waynesboro. Lacy would like to see continued involvement in the monthly activities and looks forward to meeting our $1,000.00 benevolence goal at the pig roast! Lacy shared that “she loves being able to help people and meeting that goal would mean we as a church can do that”! She also looks forward to packing shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child so that we can share the love of Jesus with children who are less fortunate. The Women’s Life Group has scheduled monthly activities including movie nights, craft days, shopping trips, pool parties, and a Ladies’ Tea to name just a few. For the first weekend in April 2014, we have already acheduled a Ladies Retreat at Roxbury Holiness Camp. Lori, Lacy, and Linda would appreciate suggestions for additional activities for 2014. Please share your thoughts with them, and be in prayer concerning your involvement in The Women’s Life Group for the upcoming year! What do you have at your home that you like to use everyday? What item would be hard to live without? Now, con-sider that item. Did you ever think about using it to reachpeople for Jesus? Maybe your item was a microwave. Whynot cook some pop-corn and invite your neighbors over for amovie. Maybe your item was your iphone. Why not use it tocall a friend you have not talked to in a while and encouragethem.

We have so many things that we are surrounded by on a dai-ly basis. On Sunday mornings, we have been talking abouthow to be a compelling missional community. One thingthat is critical to our success is the Word. Did you know thatwe are even given guidance on how to use the Word?In 2 Tim 3:16-17, we find that “all Scripture is God-breathedand is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and trainingin righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thor-oughly equipped for every good work”. NIV

This is the most important useful item in your house! As welearn about what it means to live out our life with Jesus, it isthe Word that provides the focus. We know it is from God.Not some of it, but all of it! It is useful for learning, for get-ting us back on a better path, and for training. The cool thingis that when we really get this, we start engaging in lives ofthose around us. We are not supposed to sit around thehouse or at our work and do nothing, because we are beingequipped for every good work!

What does this mean? In connection to our focus of being acompelling missional community, it could mean somethinglike offering to keep the children of a couple in your commu-nity once a month so that they can go out on a date night.Or we could invite co-workers to participate in service proj-ects that involve our church and community. There are somany ways to live our lives missionally! Let’s continue to ex-plore the possibilities!

GOD SIGHTINGS

The following are reflections from members of The Vine Churchthat describe a time in their lives when God was real, andbeyond a doubt, the Author of their lives!

Twenty seven years ago on July 4, God kept His promise totake care of our daughter, Sara, for eternity. During her shortthree week life, we spent most of our time with her at the NICUin Walter Reed. During one of those times I believe I saw Jesusstanding outside of the NICU looking at us. I know that He wastelling us that everything would be alright. Although I wantedSara to stay with us longer, Jesus gave me assurance that Hewould take care of her, and that He would comfort us throughour grief.

Less than a year later, our first son, Adam, was born. And fouryears later, on July 4, our second son, Aaron, was a born. Godcompleted our family with our two wonderful sons! He took atime of sorrow and turned it into a time of joy! Every day Hegives us the hope of seeing our daughter, Sara, again! PraiseGod for being real to our family!
